Title: How should i expand this army
elfboy - July 1, 2003 10:49 AM (GMT)
Basically i've just started a VC army, and i need ideas on what units i should buy.
I've decided on Von Carstein, and have two thralls, i will also buy 2 necromancers, one of which i will use in my army as the general. The other will have to wait until i reach 2000 points.
I also have a box of skeletons, and i will soon add another. That will leave me at around 850 points.

How many points are you aiming for to being with?
Personally I'd take two necromancers and one thrall, VC rely on magic. The skeletons are a great starting point. I'd expand with some Dire Wolves, Ghouls and Fell Bats. Then you can choose either to go with Black Knights and a Black Coach, or Grave Guard, Spirit Hosts and Banshees, depending on your style of play (the first is faster, hard hitting but fragile, the second is a lot more reliable but isn't as nimble or hard hitting).

I'm aiming for 2000 points overall, which would include two necromancers.

add black knights diffently :)
I personnaly don't like ghouls, they always seem to flee
2 banshees r also really good unless u play against undead

Ah, but having a unit that *can* flee is a very useful thing to have. Remembering that Unreakable troops can never choose to flee, Ghouls are the only unit that can bait frenzied troops and survive. They're not meant to take on whole units by themselves, but they make excellent flankers due to their high number of (poisoned!) attacks.
Banshee's can be useful for march blocking other undead, but the only other real use of them in this situation would be as a suicide charge on one of the enemy wizards. Reducing the enemies magical potential is always a good thing if you are an Undead player.
Black Knights are great. I just like to promote the other units because *everyone* seems to take Black Knights.
