Title: Tough Decision

Rob - November 20, 2004 07:48 AM (GMT)
I had my mind set on collecting Tyranids for 40k but recently I participated in a 40k tournament in my school (which I won ^_^ ) using a chaos space marines army borrowed from a friend and I realised that firepower is a big part of 40k and because Tyranids have little of it Im unsure wether to go with them now or not. Can anyone help?

Points for getting Chaos:
-Loads of choice for weapons and wargear
-Tanks like the Defiler and Chaos Predator
-The Demons!!
-Good units.
-Kick SM ass anyday.

Points for getting Tyranids:
-Good in close combat.
-Units like Genestealers and Carnifexes.
-You can mutate them once you have 8 units.
-Old One Eye!!
-Kick IG ass anyday.

Hope this helps.

AS i am a tyranids palyer and chaos space marine palyer ill put a couple of good and bad points down.
Chaos.
Very good standard troops.
Daemons.
Obliterators(able to have nearly any wepon in chaos arsenal).
Good bs.
A couple of good special characters(Abbadon)
Bad points.
Very few troops becuase of there high cost.
Get shot a part buy tau and eldar and lack the numbers to reatliate.
Daemons cna be unpredictably not(knowing whne they are going to appear).
Now for Tyranids.
Good points
Very versatile.
Lots of tehm.
Some good rules.
Specialist units (carnifex lictors etc.)
Gaunts wont retreat or take morale chekcs if iether a Zonathope warriors or Tyrant around ( or gaunt wiht the hive node abillity is about in the same brood).
Are execlent at ripping apart both of the chaos problems.
Bad points.
If hive tyrants warrios and other creatures that control youre froces die then good chance of youre gautns pegging it.
Not to many hevy wepons.
Get shot to shreds by Normal marines and tned to strugle agsint orcs becuae of orcs being the close combat monsters.
If need to take leaderhsip test pittiful leadership.
Not the ebst toughness around(but ti can be improved).
Youre bigger creatures tend to do ver ylittle because of how fast the rest of youre units are.

Hope that helps.
All in all to good amrys both wiht drawbacks.

Where do you live? If you live in the USA, play Tyranids. I can hook you up with the following:

1 Tyrant, built, not painted, without arms attached.
1 Tyrant, in box
3 Warriors, armed with 2 sets of scything talons each, unpainted.

16 homragaunts, unpainted
18 Genestealers, 12 painted Yellow carapaces with red heads and black insides

1 Tyrant guard, missing his shield, unpainted
1 Zoenthrope, floating above his base on a wire, unpainted
1 Old One Eye, arms not attached, unpainted
1 Carnifex, in box

16 Termagaunts, with fuzzed primer, 1 painted yellow with black carapace

numerous rippers and assorted bits, including 2 venom cannons and 1 barbed strangler, sything talons, etc.(over 10 rippers)

Assorted metal bits, coming from zoenthropes, tyrant gaurds, raveners, red terrors, etc.

2 Mutation sprues

1 Termagaunt weapons beast with a venomcannon

1 sprue of 3 homragaunts(one became a hive node)

^ I think that's about it. I'm thinking of selling it for somewhere around $140-200. That sounds fair, considering it is retailed at $310 not including bitz, that is under 50% of the retail.

I can post pictures if people are interested.

Nah Im English but thanks for the offer. I'm still trying to choose, none of the 40k armies seem to stand out for me, I know most of their strengths and weaknesses but none of them make me think "mmmm I want to collect them" you know what I mean? Im just having trouble deciding, I want something unique but I can't think what.

No. Just...no. I have no idea what you were trying to say there, and I'm sure 10 seconds of editing after you randomly mashed keys would have made it perfectly legible. At least make some kind of effort, please!

I have a similar problem. I'm constantly bouncing back and forth between Tyranids, Tau, and Daemonhunters, because I like them all but I can't afford more than one.

I'm sick of tyranid strategy, but I'm so close to finishing the army.
And Tau would mean a large $ profit for me, but would take alot of effort to build a balanced army.
And Daemonhunters are so cool but basicly my army would be made out of the same models over and over.
