Possibly the best fluff I've written. It's for the special char contest from Tombguard321. I hope you enjoy it!
Dhaos
In the year 2171 of the Imperial Calendar, there was an army of Tilean mercenaries led by a general named Marcus. He controlled a small portion of the Border Princes. He was a militaristic leader, and led a campaign to control all of the Border Princes. His army was unstoppable. He was a general of great cunning and his second in command, his son Decertus, was a very skilled warrior. After a four year war they finally controlled the majority of the Border Princes, but Marcus had become ill. Decertus was now in charge, but he wanted to take on an even greater challenge. He turned his army around and war was soon declared on Bretonnia. His father warned him that his move was unwise and could be their downfall, but Decertus didn’t listen. Marcus tried to command his army to stop this insane conquest and finish what they started in the Border Princes. Decertus, in a fit of rage, slew him and claimed that Marcus had come under the influence of the dark gods.
The army of Tileans continued their march into Bretonnia, and killed all who would oppose them. They burned villages and even shrines to the Lady. Though not even a quarter of Bretonnian soil had been walked upon by the Mercenary army before they encountered a Brettonian general named Terian Arkhame. The two armies clashed in a battle that resulted in the deaths of countless warriors. Many noble Bretonnian knights had lost their lives in the name of their Lady, while the Tileans were being massacred. Terian fought through crowds of mercenaries to meet Decertus, who had just finished killing the last of a unit of Questing Knights. The challenge was issued, but Decertus no longer had his former sense of honour. He had changed over the last month of war. He was now merciless where he was once honourable, and he was now uncaringly proud where he was once cautious. There was no response to the challenge, except for the many Tileans who now attacked Terian and his retinue. The battle lasted for the better part of the day, and the soil of the town of Durenborough was red with the blood of tens of thousands. Starting with this victory, Terian, as well as the other near by dukes, began to take back the land of Bretonnia.
Decertus, however, had managed to escape. He made his way to one of the port towns that he had conquered. From there he set sail with his most elite of warriors called the Immortals. The new plan was to attack Bretonnia from the other end while the dukes fought in the south. They never touched upon Bretonnian soil again, for they had been hit by storms and were redirected towards the Chaos Wastes.
Upon reaching the frozen coast, they set up camp. Some of the Tileans abandoned Decertus later that night, only to be killed by daemons and trolls. Upon the dim sun set of the next morning, what was left of the once glorious army was attacked by a band of furies. The Tileans had been reduced to more of a large war band rather than an army, and were being reduced once more. The Immortals did have the upper hand though, as they were great warriors. When the last daemon’s blood was spilled on the now red snow, a Daemon Prince had arrived.
“At last we meet Lord of Immortals,” the daemon said in the most mocking of voices, “I have engineered your path to lead you here, as your father had wished.”
“What are you talking about monster? My father is now dead, and I control my own fate, just as I will soon control the fate of Bretonnia,” Decertus was strangely calm, something that his men began to worry about.
The daemon let out an almost roaring laughter. “It” removed it’s gauntlet and handed it to Decertus. The ornate gold of the gauntlet shrank to fit his arm perfectly, and with it, he received a burning glaive of great demonic power. The Daemon pointed to the north east, “Go then. If you wish to take Bretonnia; if you wish to take the entire Old World, then go and claim your fate.” With that the daemon was gone. A new chance was handed to him, and although he knew it was given by a daemon, he couldn’t refuse.
He and his remaining men marched toward their “fate”. Over the cold hills, they found a tribe of barbarians. With this new power Decertus thought he could easily overcome them. The Immortals charged into the tribe known as the Bjornlings. The Immortals were as elite as the warriors of the Bjornlings, but had only a fraction of their number. The battle did not go well; Decertus could not summon the power of his weapon, and could not take off the gauntlet. The remaining Immortals were all slaughtered.
Decertus was once again able to escape. He wandered as a mercenary, fighting for the other tribes. For the most part, his popularity never grew to anything like it was in Tilea. He was later killed during the Great War against Chaos by a High Elf named Thalek in a battle along the coast of Norsca. It was a duel for him to remember. He was skilled, but his uncaring nature would now get the best of him. Decertus was able to hold the elf at bay for a while, but he lost his footing and gave Thalek the chance to end it.
The Daemon Prince that had given him the gauntlet came to the site of Decertus’s death. It was then that the true fate of Decertus would dawn. His armour arose, and within it, the soul of Decertus remained intact due to the power of the gauntlet.
“The pact is complete; you are now ready to do our masters will.”
Before it could say more, Decertus spoke out, “What was this cursed pact you speak of, daemon?”
It made another of those grins, “Your father prayed to have his bloodline become immortalized and powerful, we merely accepted.” The daemon turned, and behind him Decertus saw his former Immortals, now trapped in their armour like him and approaching. “They are yours once again…”
Decertus and his Immortals wander the chaos wastes to rebuild their army. Some marauder tribes began to tell tales of the “Ghost Lord” and a couple of tribes even worship him as a deity. The dark tongue name for him is Dhaos…
Nice fluff Drauthnir, I'm looking forward to see the rules of this guy :)
His rules can be found in the conversion section. It's under the challenge post made by tombguard321 for special characters.
This guys pretty cool Drauthnir, i like how he had to die to become the warrior.
