Title: Defeating the Lizardmen
Description: Help...
Tombguard321 - June 11, 2003 06:21 PM (GMT)
I need to know how to defeat Lizardmen, which has these units:
Slann (2nd Generation)
Skink Shaman
Old blood (mounted on cold one)
2 large bodies of Lizardmen
4 groups of skinks
3 Kroxigors
1 temple guard unit
Stegodon
Skink hero with most like amulet of the jaguar (slow down marches)
Either say strategies or units i should get?

Well I guess it depends on what Vampire Bloodline you're taking...
Tombguard321 - June 12, 2003 12:51 PM (GMT)
The Bloodline is Blood Dragons bloodline :)

I'd suggest a quick army, that can get to combat as quickly as possible. Some Black Knights, Fell Bats, Bat Swarms (?), Spirit Host, Hell even the Black Coach and lots of Dire Wolves, with some infantry to hold the centre. Since you're playing Blood Dragons (BOO HISS :P ) then don't expect to raise much, if anything, so there wouldn't be much point IMO to taking Skeletons or Zombies.

The reason why i am going Blood Dragons as i love the models  compared to the others.
But most of my army consists (or going to be)
Couple units of Skeletons and Zombies
Several units of Dire wolves
1 large group of Grave guard
couple of Necromancers (dispel scrolls and Black Periat)
Vampire Thrall or count in the Grave guard
1 unit of Black knights
Black coach
Banshee
several small units of Skeleton archers
not much but still that is my idea so far :)

I would put another Black Knight regi (cav work well with Blood dragon) in. Maybe take out graveguard :(
I would also take out the Black Coach and add a Banshee. Use Banshees to kill irritating lil' Shamanand Saurus old blood
Try to hit the Kroxigors in flank if possible.
Zombies do well against Stegadons (hint hint)
Take out his saurus regi and then gang up on Temple Gaurd

I thought vampire counts cant have Skeleton archers?
Tombguard321 - September 18, 2003 02:23 PM (GMT)
Vampire counts can have Archers read the appendix at the back of the book, oh and the reason i want Graveguard is that i had paid for 20! of them :(

First - drop the Black coach. With Kroxigor in the army it's as good as dead.
Second - try to take Skellies over zombies, mainly because, with their braindead rule, zombies will be torn to shreds by Saurii
Third - Black Knights would be a good idea, as they're really the only unit that can hold their own against your opponent's cc units. Set up a few blocks of skellies with frantically raising necros behind them, and counter-charge with BK (if you're using the appendix list then you can use the Lance...:))
Fourth - Skellie archers will be no use to you, as Saurii are T4, you are BS2, and skinks are skirmishers. Drop them.
Fifth - Some bat swarms would be a good investment. Hold up his TG forever.
Sixth - that guy was right about the Banshee. The skink hero won't have the jaguar pendant, he'll have the cloak of feathers, enabling him to fly, so some protection against this Ld6 march-inhibitor is essential.

Heres a funny idea a battle standard bearer and 2 banshees, make sure you line up your combats right and then charge (or get charged) by the kroxigor and stegadon (one on each banshee) and that your 12" from the BSB. The banshees will each lose combat by 1 (outnumbering) and then have this lost by the BSB. P.S. Zombies v stegadon. Are you sure? stegadon is immune to fear+will have around 7 attacks (impact hits) and skinks, well I suppose with a combat res of 5.....
The BSB idea is great if he puts one of the units on the flank (you then deploy opposite him with both units and put your BSB on the flank (him being a wight lord in a unit of grave guard/BK with banner of the barrows!). Great

Wo! This is first degree necromancy. If you have not heard tg has stopped the vampire counts and now has the lizardmen

... Exactly how many points is this??
I assume it's not a 2000pt game?? His character slots are well above what's allowed in 2000pts. Whereas yours seems quite, quite below.
And Tombguard.... you should be aware that the appendix lists are in no way balanced or even legal. If your opponent is fine with it, then it's alright, but if what you say about his army setup is true, of course he's fine with it, because he's probably cheating! The appendix lists are purely for fun. Strictly speaking, Blood Dragons are not allowed skeleton archers, or wights as core. Lahmians are not allowed a Scar-Veteran as a love slave, Von Carsteins can't have living soldiers fighting for them, Necrarchs do not have unridden monsters running around, and Strigoi Charnel Guard don't exist.
Lord Chili: I disagree about the Kroxigor. It is still possible to deploy or maneuver away from the kroxes, which are the only S7 troops in the army. It's the infamous Jaguar Scar-Vet of Doom I'm much more worried about. Since Tomguard's opponent clearly does not have such, the Coach is fine.

Come on guys, this thread is over a year old. I know this is the Vampire Counts board, but this kind of Necromancy is very naughty!
Although you can be forgiven for it this time, as the dates are very similar apart from the year, I'd appreciate it if this kind of thing doesn't happen too often, it being against the board rules and all. I'm fairly sure that TG played this game a long, long time ago.
