Do you include thunderers, cannons, and rare slots in your army?
I'll probably make my rather newly started force traditional. Crossbowdwarfs, stone and bolt throwers... Partly because I like the idea of a traditional army (even though a good cannon can't be too shabby either), and partly because I'll be wanting to play the war of the beard against my HE brother =).
I mean, why do Thunderers have to be better than Crossbowdwarfs? "move and shoot". Pfft. 30" range I say!
The reason that move and shoot is so good is that you get to turn and still shoot at those pesky scouts that may be setting up right behind you. There are a lot of enemy units that can scout and infiltrate in the new ed and crossbows are quite stuck when fighting them. When you move to face them, you give up the chance to shoot them and they are not going to set up right in front of you. So you've gone from a range of 30 inches to 0 inches. Dont forget the +1 to hit at short range of the thunderer as well as the -2 to arm saves that the dwarf handgun gives.
The only time i took a traditional army was for war of the beards and that was one of my close combat oriented armies so i didnt really miss the firepower
