Title: Chosen
Description: Are they worth it in numbers
Tombguard321 - March 18, 2003 11:57 AM (GMT)
Well we all know that Chosen warrior and knights have an upgraded armour save and better proctection but are they worth it in points wise compared to the likes of taking huge groups of Bloodletters?
Moonshadow - March 18, 2003 10:09 PM (GMT)
I dunno.... I don't do Chaos, I do High Elves (I'm doing Chaos next). But I'd say that Chosen Warriors would be really sweet with the Chosen ability. Maybe just a small group of Chaos Warriors (like 12) because you could make them have 3 attacks. 1 with regular hand weapon, 2 with extra hand weapon, 3 with the Chosen ability. You wouldn't be able to have the shield. He'd have a 4+ save. That's awesome for a regular infantry. Sure it costs a helluva lot of points but it's worth it, and it's a core unit.

Mind you Chaos knights also get the same upgrade which is a must for them :)
Moonshadow - March 21, 2003 12:09 AM (GMT)
Yes, but that makes them 37 points each, which seems like quite a lot to me. But I'll take your word for that. They get a 1+ armor save with the Chaos armor, and if they're Khorne, they have 3 attacks (if they don't lose Frenzy).
LordKjarl - April 18, 2003 07:43 PM (GMT)
no, i do never use the chosen thingy, its to mutch point cost
warriors are already hella good, so why the extra attack and armour saves?
and knights are already the best nights on the warhammer world in my vision, they kick ass when they charge
but i like the adea giving my warriors chosen an extra hand weapon and the mark of Khorne
thats 4atacks and imumu to psygology (frenzy hé) and +1DISPELL DICE
:D:D:lol

To use Chosen, you'd probably want to have your army be pretty big. You wouldn't want to be outnumbered. I play High Elves, and being outnumbered SUCKS!

Hello.
I would say that Chosen Knights are good investment, if you own/take enough models to back them up.
I think Chosen Warriors cuts back on the army too much, and although it offers a huge punch, it just is not worth.
Let's look at the different aspects of the Chosen upgrade :
-Warrior or Knight
- +1 attack
- +1 armor
- Point increase per/model
Since the point increase is per model, warriors will make it A LOT more expensive.
The +1 armor would be more easily utalized by knights, who could dart into combat.
Again, the +1 attack would be better utalized by the knights, they get into combat quickly.
Finally, knights have to pay for the upgrade fewer times, as there are fewer models in the regiment (hopefully).
I'm not saying knights are flat out superior to warriors. But Chosen Knights are a fearsome unit, as long as there are marauders and warriors to hold up the enemy infantry, and kill off their other units.
Hope this helped :)

Thanks a lot WaspEater. I now know a little bit what my army will look like. I think my Knights will be the Chosen ones for now. I'll probably only make them Chosen if I'm sure that it won't cost too many points. Then again, there won't be as many of them, so it might not cost as many points.
Thanks again for the advice. :)

You should ALWAYS make a unit of knights chosen... Improved armour save and increased hth ability is just the ticket
Khrangar - May 3, 2003 01:46 AM (GMT)
I use a unit of 15 Chosen with my Exalted Champion, Khrangar the Beast, in it and they, excluding Khrangar, are armed with halberds. They make a great retinue for an unmounted hero and can pack a punch if not torn apart by missile weapons. BTW, Moonshadow, what god will you follow? Or will they all be worshipped equally. Also, to Maelduin ab Sardis, I would like to appologize, even though it may not be neccessary, for the incorrect spelling of Asur. In a book I read a while ago, there were a group of people called the Dzur and I spelled Asur like that.
I think that is all for me, until my next post.

dude, make a marauder army, then when people laugh at it, kick them int he groin!

Apologies accepted ;) I'm glad you noticed your mistake. We're all here to learn, little grasshopper :D
I know, off topic, I apologize
Anyway, on the subect of chosen: you don't really have tot decide yet whether or not your knights will be chosen, Moonshadow, because the minis are the same :)

I don't know why everyone bad mouths Marauders, I think they're better than the average troop a lot of other armies have to offer.
Moonshadow - May 4, 2003 03:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah... 5 points for a WS4 troop, and 8 points for a WS troop with a flail and a 5+ armor save. I hear that they're pretty good for screening the Chaos Warriors, since you don't want your Warriors to die from missiles or magic.
Khrangar - May 4, 2003 04:41 PM (GMT)
They make good screens and they excell at taking out units of weaker troops like troops that are average and below average and such like that.

If you don't think that chosen knights and warriors are worth it you have obviously never used 36 chosen warriors of Khorne with hand weapons and shields.
This unit in 6x6 formation has a 3+ save, and 2+ save in combat, generating 19 attacks on the front rank at WS5 S4. Given the banner of Rage, this unit is almost unstoppable!
It weighs in at a hefty 881 pts with full command but it has won more battles against my Undead than I care to remember!
Chosen Knights of Khorne are even worse! 1+ armour save, 3 attacks each at WS5 S5, a unit of 10 is what I normally face and only by hitting them in the flanks with my own heavy cavalry can I expect to win.
These guys can destroy a 40 strong zombie unit in 2 turns!
Bye the way - why would you want to give Chosen of Khorne extra hand weapons. They already have 3 attacks each, giving them 4 attacks at the expense of a decent armour save is kinda like overkill/vulnerability. You will slaughter enemy combat units but perish under missile fire.

Chosen can be worth it, depending on how you use the army. If you go all infantry, Chosen warriors with a shield provide a solid centre to base your army around, as well as being able to smash through most anything. :D
