Aleron the young questing knight felt as if the silence was about to strangle him, these supernatural Undeads were wheeling into position without their beautiful maiden general had uttered a word. To his left he saw the Men-at-Arms whining in terror and battle cries from the Knight Errants. Those were jolly days when he himself a Knight Errant hunted the troll with his companions, but they were all gone, Brutus died in his arms the day they faced the toothless orc shaman, Francis disappeared in some magical fog and Camilio, he was never appointed Knight of the Realm, he was became a mercenary after accidentally having killed his Fiancé. Where he was gone to, Aleron did not know, but it was something about a treasure in the steaming jungles of Lustria.
The Bretonnians kneeled and prayed to the Lady of the Lake, and Aleron thought that this would be the last test to pass before becoming Grail Knight. It was as if She had guided him to arrive to the remote lying holy Chapel just in time to join the forces of desperate citizens, peasants and merchants. The old senior officer and the Master of the Keep had decided to let him carry the army standard since he might have been send to imbue the citizens with new hope.
There was no time to waste Aleron thought the Undeads where closing in on them now. He could spy their general, she was looking quite attractive, and her flesh was pale but was eventually seen among the skeletons. The Grave Guards were a grim reminder to Aleron that he was mortal, and it seemed as if they whispers through the wind: “You are what we once were, what we are you shall become”. He could not keep his eyes away from the pretty thing standing there, but she was the enemy that he had to fight. Suddenly 2 couples of Dire Wolves arrived on the flanks of the huge blocks of enemy infantry.
The enemy general released might purple lightning over the Mounted Squires before the Damsel had time to read a dispel scroll 4 Squires laid dying on the field but the others held the ground. Aleron whispered a silent blessing to the Lady as a newly arrived unit of Skeletons sank back into the ground.
Lowering his lance the general ordered the Knight Errants and the Questing Knights to charge to wolves as the Damsel with an irresistible force ordered a meteor to decent upon her enemies. The Wolves could not withstand the powerful impacts and the Questing Knights were carried forward into the Grave Guards, while all the archers attempted to take the other unit down.
The successful Bretonnians where about to be trapped as all their regiments surged forward into the open gap in the middle of the battlefield, ignoring the mighty force of Knight Errant, she ordered all unengaged units to charge an enemy. The Mounted Squires failed their test and ran but the Knightly units received the charges. The Vampire Lord attempted to cast Gaze of Nagash and Invocation of Nehek but both were dispelled.
Aleron fought hard but his horse refused to step forward whining due to the foul stench of decay, to his right side a Knight got dismounted and disappeared in the mob of Skeletons. Retreat ordered Aleron because the steer number of enemies was overwhelming them. As the knights broke and fled the other unit of knights seemed to get the upper hand though the Vampire Thrall was fighting hard. But due to the confusing situation the Bretonnian commoners did not notice and people from the rear ranks of the Bowmen and the Mounted Squires fled and sought hiding places. But the spirit of the Bretonnians where still unbroken as the General and the Knight Errants where ready to charge the Undeads in the rear and Aleron rallied his men. New hope filled the Men-at-Arms as all three units of 20 charged in. But the meteor did not decent in time and was dispelled.
All Skeletons except the command group was killed in a righteous fury done by the Men-at-Arms and Knights of the Realm together but on the southern front the Men-at-Arms fled due to the high resistance done by the united Grave Guards and Skeletons. The Skeletons with the Vampire Lord charged in and the Grave Guards turned to face the knights coming in from behind. The vampire killed 3 before they could retaliate from the berserker rage done by the Lahmia Vampire Lord. But it was too late the Thrall died at the hands of the Senior Officer. Now every unit were locked in a deadly embrace.
Blood red was the last rays of the sun but neither side had got the upper hand.
Result a draw: Bretonnia 654 points, Lahmia Vampires 641 points.
Great battle, and a close one at that. Could you tell us what the sarmies consisted of? You don't need to include magic items, just tell us what units were there.
