Title: Dark elves too hard to use...or?
Description: Need a bit of advice...

Hey there! I have a little bit of a problem...recently (meaning the past 2 years...haha) ive been jumping back and forth between O+G and DE. I love DE, they have awesome story and back round, incredible models and i love the idea of playing tactical! But...i've never really played warhammer before  . So understandably i'm kinda intimidated by the Druchii....I want to play as them, but at the same time i know they're hard to use, and don't wanna get beaten over and over again for years to come because of a lack of inexperiance. So....Is it a good choice for me to start using DE, or should I maybe get a bit more experiance and use another army? any input would be greatly appreciated! thanks.

If you like DE, and you like the models, don't be scared off. You'll probably have a hard time scraping up wins when you start, but once you pick up on how to play you'll be surprised how competitive they can be.

Check out my tactica at the top of the section, read through some posts, and put together a list. There's a few people here who will chip in and help out as best we can, and if you tell us what armys you'll be facing we can probably do even better.

The one thing I'd say is don't let Rasputin convince you to play MSU, at least not at first. It needs a lot of precision to work right, and I'd advise you to play games with a simpler army to get used to the game first.

Vriishnak did a good job with his tactica in this section, and Rasputin could give some good advice. If you like Dark Elves, then stick with them. You'll need to practice with them anyway to get the tactics set in.

As you build your army, just look for a few patterns that you repeatedly go up against. Does your opponents always use knights for a certain task? Is there a group of shooters that always focus on one of your units? Does he always make one of his units so open to your charges that you just have to go for it?

As you play games, look for some of these unit-tasks, and then plan to foil them. If the opponents plans seem like a "random, whatever is good at the time" type of style, then you can always make a plan and see if you can make the opponent fall for your ploys instead. Just try some different angles. Learn what to look out for.

Perhaps you could post yur list and then we could offer you some advice on how to use. Perhps you could even say how you use. To be honest, with DE your often dead before the deployment - that is if your list is no good, or doesn't suite you. Thats what takes perfecting. You will need to learn how to use your speed to your advantage and minimise the times you get charged.

hmm....well I havnt figured out my army yet, as far as how many models, etc, considering I dont have alot of models....but the main opponent is gonna be dwarves. first game will be around 1000 points....the general idea is Im not gonna bother with spear men, just get corsairs...cause theres no way he's gonna be charging me. Reaper bolt thrower(s) are a good idea, it'll help soften up the normally heavy armoured dwarves. I figure i'll take a unit of dark riders to go war machine hunting, or some harpies...haha other then that im not too sure what else. I wouldn't mind taking some executioners, but they'll most likely be torn to peices by war machine fire and thunderers before they even get there, so in other words a waste of points. Cold one knights will play a big part im guessing, as he will probably only be able to feild a couple units because of the high point cost, i may be able to roll up an entire line if the charge is good. That's the general idea so far.....any pointers u guys could offer? haha I mean i may be completly off with my plan anyways!
