Title: 1k of Dwarfs
Description: Its all I have....

Stuntie - May 26, 2003 07:02 PM (GMT)
Heres my 1k list of Dwarfs:
Hero:
Thane with great weapon, heavy armour. 63 points

Core:
19xDwarf warriors with heavy armour, great weapons and full command. 215 points
(lead by Thane, rank in 5 man long ranks)

20xDwarf warriors with heavy armour, hand weapons and shields, full command. 205 points

10xThunderers with musician and a veteran with a brace of pistols. 157 points

10xCrossbowmen. 120 points

Special:
Cannon. 135 points

Rare:
Gyrocopter. 140 points

Total: 1000 points exactly.

It will be fighting against a bunch of skinky lizards tomorrow so I made sure I kept my gyrocopter, now what do you guys think of this list? I didnt take a runesmith because my opponent will only be using a skink priest, and hell probably be lvl2 so well have the same amount of power dice.

Drop something to give you unit with great weapons shields as well as you will get shot at by all manner of nasty poisonous things so improve your armour saves. The skirmishing skinks will probably run rings around you so you need anything to improve your survivability until you trap them in combat.
Try and cause panic tests on multiple units instead of trying to seriously weaken one unit in particular. Usually in the shooting phase I would try to weaken the biggest threat to my army by reducing it to the fewest number of models by concentrating fire on one particular enemy unit. If you are facing predominantly skinks then just blast enough to reduce a unit by 25%. Even with the coldblooded rule a lot should panic and run off with the low ldrshp of a skink.
This might be too late to help you out but good luck and let us know how you got on so we can see if the lizzies have got any nasty tricks up their sleeve. I know they have but lets see how switched on your enemy was!

Well, the game was only 830 points as that is all my opponent had painted (we're both new to fantasy) , but I won anyways! :D B) :ph43r:
The list I used for this game was:
Thane with great weapon, heavy armour and rune of stone. 63 points

19xDwarf warriors with heavy armour, great weapons and full command. 215 points

16xDwarf warriors with heavy armour, hand weapons, shields and full command. 169 points

10xThunderers. 140 points

Cannon. 100 points

Gyrocopter. 140 points

Total: 827 points

I won by a pretty good margin considering the game size, at the end of the game he was wiped out (we played to the death for some reason) and I had 2 thunderers, my thane, 16 great weapon warriors, my cannon and the gyrocopter.

He used (not sure of points):

lvl2 skink priest.

about 30-40 skinks

20 saurus

5 saurus cold one riders

3 kroxigor

6 chameleon skinks

Well, thats all I can remember anyways  my Dwarf warriors with shields destroyed the unit of skinks, stood up to a charge from the kroxigors, won two combats against them (but they didnt break) and then were eventually wiped out by a flank charge from the saurus cavalry. The gyrocopter went after the skinks and saurus, killing 3 saurus, a saurus cold one rider and 5 of the chameleon skinks, all without taking any damage :D . The cannon didnt misfire but overshot everyone apart from 3 saurus  . The thunderers got taken out by the chameleon skinks, reduced to 2 guys, not before they killed 3 saurus cold one riders (making them flee off of the table!) and a kroxigor, but they got their revenge, killing the last skink from shooting even though they needed 7's to hit!my thane and the great wepon unit destroyed the saurus on foot, the 2 remaining kroxigor and the skink shaman, all in combat!
Overall, a very pleasing first game of warhammer!
Even though I worked hard to get my 1k painted in time for the game and I didnt get to use it all, I get to use it in a game against empire on thursday!

Well done on an excellent game of warhammer, it sounds like you had a good time playing and I'm glad that you decided to play with painted models even though it may have been detrimental to your force. The gyrocopter is one of the most under rated pieces of equipment in the dwarf arsenal. You may find that the gyrocopter comes in for some unwanted attention off every piece of empire artillery on the board but if its shooting at the gyro then its not shooting at the rest of your army. ;) Keep up the good work and let us know how the empire game goes.

ps get some slayers for the next time you face the lizzies, in combat they annihilate saurus big time

Stuntie - May 27, 2003 05:59 PM (GMT)
Well, slayers are on my 'to buy' list and ill be getting them ASAP, mainly because I really like the fluff and the models! Ill be posting a list to take on the empire soon, it will be almost the same as the one I planned to use against lizzies. This empire army will have alot of artillery so the gyrocopter will be a must for taking out the warmachine crews, and a flamer over a long line of pistolers is never a bad thing! It can also hunt the pistolier fast cavalry to stop them from getting to annoying, ill make sure it only fires when im pretty sure theyll be wiped out or will flee with the help of another artillery unit. What else do you think would work against the empire with my list, even if it is just speculation on what they will have, it would be nice to have a form of plan no matter what my opponent throws at me :D :D :ph43r:

LordLoverocket - May 27, 2003 06:15 PM (GMT)
Empire artillery armies are quite difficult to play against with dwarves without turning the game into a barrage fest. Consider a small unit of rangers that could pinfire warmachine crew with crossbows. If he pulls out his cannons the you may consider a different deployment ie instead of ranking up (giving him multiple ranks to cannonball through) just have 1 long rank to aim at. He would be killing 1 model per unit per shot on a completed shot. This gives you opportunities to negate his cannons by whatever means without losing too many models from it. Just dont forget to reform before you receive a charge.
If he pulls out a helblaster just get rid of it however you can. It is not the most predictable of empire artillery but it has the potential to devastate any dwarven unit in one turn of firing. Dont give it the opportunity. You do not want to be in the position where you have to advance at 6 inches per turn up the firing range of a helblaster. I dont usually go off on one over a single enemy unit but just the sight of a helblaster has me foaming at the mouth, most of the time off it goes off and misfires but it can wipe out your army if used correctly. Horrible things.

Stuntie - May 27, 2003 06:23 PM (GMT)
Hmm...I'll send the gyrocopter against the hellblaster crew ASAP, or should I send it against the pistoliers?
How big should the unit of slayers be in a 1k game?
Thanks for the help so far Lord

Dont let me pass my bad habits on to you, if you have your battle plan drawn up for you gyrocopter then stick to it, no matter what, the thing that will kill your army quicker than anything is your own indecisiveness. ;)
Slayers in 1k, I feel, depends on the army that you are facing. Obviuosly if you know what models you're opponent is going to play with means that you can tailor your own force accordingly. I tend to use a small unit in every game as they are excellent line holders for protecting your flank. It is surprising the amount of enemy attention that your slayers will receive but they are a relatively cheap and expendable unit. You could stick them virtually anywhere on the table and your enemy will be thrown as to devote resources towards killing them or letting them wander across his battle line. And he will have to kill every last one of them as they are unbreakable. Of course when he's devoting resources to trying to kill the units that you want him to then he's not killing anything else and you can carry on with you game plan.
Don't mention it. Just leave me something in your will. I've a family to support you know. :)

Stuntie - May 28, 2003 08:09 PM (GMT)
I'll be using the list i've posted here for my game tomorrow, (except that the cannon is 100 not 135 as I posted for some reason :P ). I'll tell you how the game goes tomorrow, wish me luck, im gonna need it! :ph43r:

LordLoverocket - May 28, 2003 08:40 PM (GMT)
I'll astound you with my psychic powers and tell you why you had the cannon listed at 135 pts.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm RUNE OF FORGING mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Take it, use it. If you read this before the battle good luck. Sorry about the delay in posting but I've been painting up a unit of warriors with G weapons and shields using a new technique. Check out the website called www.dentedarmour.com or something like that for some really nice dwarves. I'll check the proper address out later.
