Title: Norse Army
Description: New army list

LordLoverocket - May 20, 2003 04:46 PM (GMT)
Any interested in suggestions towards a Norse Dwarf Army list for next years campaign? If we can get a decent list together then I might be tempted to convert and paint a force to play in the campaign with. Take into account the fluff of the Norse that already exists ie berserkers, dwarf cavalry etc and come up with ideas, point values, rules etc

Except that the Norse were all huge . . .

Heres my idea use the army as is but change the following.
disclaimor this army is unplaytested]

Special units
No hammerers left before they were founded.

Rare units none of the warmachines instead have the following.

Berzerkers..........................................................0-1 points 21pts
Berzerkers are completely encased in gromril armour head to toe in addition there armour is enscribed with the rune of stone giving them the armour save of 1+ this is because they are completly covered in armour head to toe plus the rune gives them 1+
however being covered in all this armour blocks there vision slightly as such there view is not 90 degrees but rather 45 degrees.(i think this is right i could be wrong, dont have the rule book on me)
stats..m..ws..bs..s..t..w..I..Ld
........3....5...3....4.4..1..2..10
unit size 10+
There completly immune to psychology and panic and must always charge if in range of the enemy
Carry double handed weapons, may not be joined by characters except for berzerker champion and no battle standard.
Blood berzerker +12 pts has +1 attacks

wolf beards.....................................................0-1.points 18 pts
These longbeards have undergone the trial of the wolf in wich they are lest in the wilds to hunt and kill a single wolf they then wear there hides like cloaks as symbols of there standing
Special rules: Cause fear(if given standard of fear cause terror
Howl of the wolf once a game they may use this to move an extra d3inches after they have charged.
Charge of the wolf.+2 strength on turn they charge(+3 if used howl of the wolf.)
armour wolf cloak 4+ against missile 5+ against hand to hand
Carry two hand weapons both benefit from the wolf charge special rule
also carry throwing axes.
stats..m..ws..bs..s..t..w..i..ld
........3...5....3...4..4..1..3..10
unit size 10-40

this unit i made just to be mean i mean they can have a turn with 2 s7 attacks each

Thats all for now

Berserkers with armor!

Berserkers shave their hair and run headlong into battle to impale themselves on the spears of the enemies! No armor there, they are more extreme then Slayers!

Kingphesphestus - May 21, 2003 01:24 PM (GMT)
I was basing mine on warcraft three berzerkers where did you hear that they shaved there heads and wore no armour

LordLoverocket - May 21, 2003 03:03 PM (GMT)
pg 69 of the 6ed rule books. 3rd paragraph :)

I've heard of Marauder Norscan armies but not dwarven ones. It may look a little weird but it may turn out alright although the whole beard shaving thing is just a LITTLE bit blasphemous to dwarves.

Maybe just cut down (or cut out completely) the black powder weapons and go for crossbows for shooting.

FOr those whom are interested two things.

Excerpt from page 69 of the Dwarf Army Book:

"To the far north lies Kraka Drak, home of the Norse Dwarfs. So long ago did their ancestors enter the Norscan mountains that these Dwarfs have a different language and customs, something which unites all the other holds together... The Norse Dwarfs are regarded as even madder than other expatriate Dwarfs by many, and much of this is blamed on their Hold's closer proximity to the Chaos Wastes...They also reputedly have a pecticular variant of Slayers called 'beserkers' by Men - Dwarfs so grief-stricken and dishonored that they shave off all of their hair, foam at the mouth, and charge into battle determined to hurl themselves into a glorious death on the enemies' weapons."

I have made an Army list ot fit this fluff as well as the fluff of the human norse, into an army list found on the DoW section of this website. The beserkers in question have 3 attacks, movement 4, and lower Toughness and Leadership. Its completely legal thanks to the DoW rules. Dwarven infantry, cavalry, mage, frezny, should be an interesting list to play. Please review it! I think I might start converting, I like the idea of an original army all my own!

Ok ive gone back and read the book again dont know how i missed that bit
Anyway how about berzerkers are slayers with the slayer skill ect but are also subject to frenzy.

LordLoverocket - May 23, 2003 03:13 PM (GMT)
I thought that the berserkers could form their own unit. Some thing along the lines of the rules for night goblins and their fanatics with the dwarven unit advancing and then pushing out as many of the berserkers as they had paid the points for. They wouldn't have to be as lethal as the fanatics but also not as unpredictable, something like whirling dervishes of death that homed in 2d6 on the nearest enemy unit but would still recognise their own troops.
To clear up the shaving of dwarves, when dwarves take the slayer oath they shave their heads anyway. The size of their crest indicating their success (or failure) as slayers.
I dont know if I could cope with dwarves and magic together. I dont know if it could be fair to have runes and spells, the anvil of doom always seems a bit extreme and too easy to dispell. Mind you other races have magic spells as well as magic weapons so why not, it might be interesting to have a druidic dwarf (Pikel Bouldershoulder anyone?) throwing some elemental spells about but just limit the runes, no master runes or any over a set points value.
Dwarves on boars, tough ,bad tempered, flatulent beasts with a boar underneath. Excellent. Comments anyone

In one of the latest White Dwarfs they mention the Dwarves up in Norsca being harrassed by minions of Chaos... I think
