Description: Help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'm thinking about doing Dwarfs. Can you tell me why they are a good army? Are they Fairly cheap? What are some good units to use and what would be a good start besides the book. Thanks for any help.

what do you mean cheap as ij points or money :D
i would get a dwarf llord or general and the maybe some hammerers. after decide what sort of army you want to play and follow the units required.
ps i just said hammerers because i really like them :D

Dwarfs are tricky I play them due to their back story, not because they are easy to play.

I play Dwarfs because they fit my personality the best.

They are rock hard though, and very fun to play (at least for me)

I play dwarves as they are solid dependable force that can usually put up with the newest flashiest thing that GW can throw at them and still come out fighting. Thank the lord for T4, Ldshp 9, Great wpns and Arm saves.
Essential purchases include 3 boxes of plastics so you can have 3 hard units up and running straight away and a nice general model. Dwarves are lucky as they have a huge back catalogue of models and you can usually find something that you like. Then go for something exotic that you would like to paint, something like a gyrocopter or a bolt thrower just to keep interested. It doesn't take long to paint a basic dwarf as they are mostly beard and armour. You can always go back later and add details as your painting skills improve as long as you have a nice basic, tidy model.
Get used to their limitations quickly, if you expect to be rushing all over the board, blasting everything with magic then choose a different army. If you want a no frills, balanced army that can deal with anything that you're opponents have then you are on to a winner.
If you do decide to do dwarves then let us know how you get on, maybe start a thread on how and why you are collecting them. Put something back into the dwarf community, you may have a new aspect that you can share with us all. ;)

Thanks for all the help. I'm thinking of starting with a box of warriors and 10 thunderers, just to get the minimum amount. Does that sound good? What would be a good rune combo for a thane? I don't have the book yet so can you tell me what the runes do. I know what a couple do but not all. Thanks again. :)

What would be a good start? As i am a teenager i won't be carrying around a lot of money. So I would like to get an army up as fast as possible. And what would be good to equip a Thane with? Thanks for all that helped.

??? What do you mean Scaly???

Scaly - May 22, 2003 11:27 PM (GMT)
(Click on it, its a link)

Its a good place to try out an army because you can change things around easy.

WarlordTrik - May 23, 2003 12:03 AM (GMT)
Ohhh, thanks.

There's also an icon next to the rune choices that gives you the rune list for reminders, etc. I think it is a magnifying glass? Its just ot the right of most options!

WarlordTrik - May 23, 2003 01:35 AM (GMT)
Thanks, I already had a couple of lists at that site for other armies. For the Dwarfs they don't say what the runes do.

Right then, behave yourself. Use your messaging system if you just want a conversation. These posts add nothing that haven't been on the forum before. The dwarf forum should be used to have constructive discussions about comments, proposals etc. 2 word replies do not constitute a positive effort. Scaly is right to reccommend the website and has helped out with a query that you had but this is a forum for dwarves and I hope to keep it that way. Discussions, yes, proposals, yes, banter, yes, spamming, forget it. Add something constructive or it goes

Sorry Loverocket. I will not do that again. Do you have an opinion of what I should get?

InvulnerableOne - May 24, 2003 01:01 AM (GMT)
I think you should create a five hundred point list before you buy anything.

WarlordTrik - May 24, 2003 02:40 AM (GMT)
Ok, i don't have the book yet. But could order it next week. What would you recommand to get?

InvulnerableOne - May 25, 2003 03:30 AM (GMT)
I think some Warriors are always a good place to start. As are Dwarves with Crossbows, especially for small armies.

Stuntie - May 25, 2003 08:47 PM (GMT)
Yea, when I started my Dwarf army, I bought 4 boxes of warriors and a thane as a start B)

LordLoverocket - May 27, 2003 04:59 PM (GMT)
The only thing wrong with dwarf crossbowmen is that they are move or fire only. Deployment is more of a thoughtful process nowadays as there are a lot of skirmishing anti missile troop units that could really give a badly deployed unit a hard time.
But why give their champion 2 attacks instead of a higher BS? Fair enough if they had the option for GW but they haven't and they are only st 3.
