Greetings elfs of the wood.
what box(regiment) should i buy first?
what are the wood elfs strenghts and weaknesses
Are suprising or hidden units a advantage in strategy?

There arent really any Box set or Regiment boxes for Wood Elves... the only box sets are the Forest Dragon and the Dumb Plastic archers which you SHOULD NOT buy or use in your army lol.
You need to buy blisters or GW online store... id suggest 15 archers and about 8-9 Wardancer and/or Dryads... but 8-9 of Each

i purchased a bunch if metals used to get me going, but i wanted an archery heavy army.
you can buy the old archer plastics quite cheaply on ebay,
2 bought 2 boxes of the high elf archer units and painted them
in dark angels green for cloaks, and goblin green for other clothing,
with a bit of wash and dry brushing, they turned out quite good!

It's not necessarily a waste of time. It's definitely better to get them when the book comes out, but they aren't useless now. If you don't mind the present models, then it might be good to get into the feel now and see if you like it.
If you can accept the current models, and the fact the future ones will look better, then go for it, especially if you like them already.
