Title: Infantry
Description: size? tactics? useless?

empirenewb - May 18, 2003 04:12 AM (GMT)
I figure infantry are good but i dont wanna have em at like 20+size because they take up space and money.

So i decided to put em in 16 unit size, with 8 detachment.

I've never tried it out but, i figure that the detachments will make up for their small unit size.

Is this a good idea? or just plain stupid?

:(

Your core really needs to be 24 or so. the trick is to buy 3 boxes to make two regiments, say 24 halberdiers and 24 swordsmen.

At 16, they will lose efficiency very quickly, and they are easier to panic, and parent regiments do cause panic tests. Bad thing in an empire army...

3 boxes?

thats dude... 18+18+16=52 (-2 from one because they are SB and M)

that leaves.. 4 guys left over... 6 with the SB and M

what should i do with em then?

Use them for conersions, increase one of the units in size, or use them for free company...

In my empire army I have 24 halberdiers, 10 swordsmen (I still need to buy that third box), 35 spearmen, 37 handgunners, 12 free company, and, right now, 3 flagellants. Well for the infantry anyway. But my points is: you need big units. and spare models isn't really a problem now, is it? ;)

Live on poor people with small units! I see why you need big units . . . but three boxes is too much . . . so far I only have 16 spearmen, a 8 handgunner detatchment, and a 10 handgunner unit. I think I'll bet one box of halberdiers (16), then a box of warriors . . . does it give you pieces to make spears or halberds? I could add 8 to each unit that way, and then increase detatchment sizes . . .

The 'warrior' box gives you the bitz to make 16 Swordsmen or 16 Halberdiers and a command.

I tend to use units of 20 or so but I have a unit of 25 Swordsmen. I also have a unit of 16 handgunners, 19 spearmen, and 20 or so halberdiers that I split up and use as detachments. I also have smaller units for detachments and a big unit of 14 KotIC.

Poop. I have to buy a box of spearmen and halberdiers?

empirenewb - May 20, 2003 05:02 AM (GMT)
I figure out buying captains to fill up that one unit left out can make it 20 so that meants that one box of warriors is all i need!! :D

Khrangar - May 21, 2003 01:58 AM (GMT)
Seeing how it is really a detachment box, you will have to buy a box of halberdiers and a 2 boxes of spearmen as they are only 8 per box as well as 8 handgunners. Alternatively you could convert halberds into spears somehow although it would be difficult.

Here's how I did Empirenewb: buy the models from someone who owns the box but doesn't play empire :)

Since I play both O&g and empire, I boughbt all the models from the new box from a friend. a box costs 75€ (about the same in US$), and the book seperately costs 50€, so I gave him 50€ for: 16 orcs w/ 2 hand weapons, 16 arrer boyz, an orc command sprue,a boar chariot, 16 spearmen, 16 handgunners, a command sprue, and a cannon/mortar :D . That pretty much 4 boxed sets i got (some command lacking, I admit) adn two war machines for €. Since a normal box costs 27€ in Belgium, make the calculus for yourself...

My friend had his book at half price plus the dice+ the building+ the templates, so we were both happy. If you don't know anyone who bought the box, just post a message in your local store.

Hope this helped out B)

My favourite unit is a 30 man unit of spears with the griffon standard they are count's troops
with a detach of 15 swords and 15 free companies :)

Here is the best empire ifantry unit:

20x Greatswords(parrent unit)
- full command, griffon standard

10x Swordsmen (detachment)
10x Swordsmen (detachment)

when they come in close combat one swordsmen group charges opponent in flank(no rank bonus) and then u will CRUSH him in combat resolution and he will flee.....then pursue with detachment en kill tha f***ers :fight:

Bahh, it may be advisable to look at the date at which the last post was posted before you post. Bringing up topics over a year old annoys us mods and using an old comic book quote 'you won't like me when I'm angry'.

I am getting fustrated now. Stop the necromancy and this applies to thw whole site.

Drauthnir - September 3, 2004 05:09 PM (GMT)
Ok guys, I'll lock this. Perhaps if we see any more necromancy we'll resort straight to PM warning rather than adding a reply warning that may never be read.

Locked. Bahh, stop bringing back old topics.
