Champion of Tzeentch - May 15, 2003 01:43 AM (GMT)
Hey, i was just wondering who plays and what they play, im thinking of starting daemonhunters, i love em!

Maelduin ab Sardis - May 15, 2003 11:00 AM (GMT)
Chaos space marines - Night Lords to be precise :)

Tombguard321 - May 15, 2003 11:30 AM (GMT)
I do the following armies BA (Blood angels), Tau, Tyranids, Ulthwe (Eldar craftworld), Space wolves, Necrons, Daemonhunters, Dark Eldar ( a little army compared to the rest)

I know thats alot of armies but i like to invite friends over for a drink and discuss about females oh and a few games of 40k so no one can complain about having no army when they visit it is choosing an army thats hard :)

Drauthnir - May 15, 2003 07:58 PM (GMT)
I have a 1500 point army of Blood Angels, but I started an Eldar army (only started), and I'm not going to use the craftworld codex. We don't play 40K too often though.

TotalFarker - May 16, 2003 05:02 AM (GMT)
Orks!!!! Nothing like having to design and build most of your own models. I enjoy an army which makes me convert just about everything.

Tombguard321 - May 16, 2003 11:19 AM (GMT)
The only thing that can match orks in conversions are the tyranids and chaos

but one the other side the most boring if powerfull army in converting wise is the Necrons not much you can do about that though unless you want to convert your necron lord to look like big Arnie (terminator)

LordLoverocket - May 16, 2003 08:35 PM (GMT)
I'm an all out Eldar player with my army based around the Ulthwe rules. I've seen the Eye of Terror codex and the rules are superb. I've been tinkering with the new rules for Ulthwe after someone e-mailed me them a few weeks back from another website and some of them (for those interested in the way of the farseer) involve one of your warlocks bringing onto the field a warpgate from which other parts of your army can deploy from upto the size of vipers. There are limitations on this spear of Khaine list but it does tie up some loose ends for Ulthwe players as well as create some new questions.

Tombguard321 - May 17, 2003 05:28 PM (GMT)
i wouldn't mind getting a hold of those rules to be honest but it is best to wait isn't it

LordLoverocket - May 19, 2003 09:34 AM (GMT)
Your local store manager should have a copy of the codex already so the shop can prepare. I've had a quick look at the book and some of the special rules and artwork are superb. For example the space wolves have a certain rule where they can be teleported out of combat to another place on the board! I've got so much painting to do its unreal. I'm redoing my Ulthwe as I've recently picked up a new technique for doing wraithbone and I've got better at painting faces. My lizardmen are still skulking around on my table as I'm converting my old plastic skinks into blowpipe holders. I always look at my dwarves and think that something could be improved upon. And I've just finished putting together a 1000pt chaos fantasy force for a small tournament. Prioritise!!!

Khrangar - May 20, 2003 12:41 AM (GMT)
I don't really play 40K that much but I have about a 1000pt World Eaters army as well as a 500pt or so Tau army. I used to have about a 750pt Space Wolves army but I mostly just use them for bitz to make my WE look better. A more feral look and all.

InvulnerableOne - May 21, 2003 11:51 AM (GMT)
A dedicated Space Wolves player :D . Actually I just played a game recently Ulthwe and Space Pups taking on Dark Eldar and some Slaaneshi Chaos types. The forces of good stood victorious (Although there were very few Space Wolves by the end
:( that's mainly because an assault I led on one of their flanks drew a whole pile of units away from the objective! But my men were brutally cut down in the end :( ... Woah way too many emotions there.)

WarlordTrik - May 23, 2003 01:52 AM (GMT)
I play Eldar and Tau. But will start up Catachans, Orks, and Chaos.

Taki_86 - May 23, 2003 06:52 AM (GMT)
I was going to start an Eldar army, so I bought the codex, and then I bought the Craftworld Eldar. Then I changed to Tau, but now I have decided to play Daemonhunters (you can laugh at my lack of decision, all my friends do)

Tombguard321 - May 23, 2003 08:44 AM (GMT)
Taki no offense but why not do all 3? and anyway Eldar esp Ulthwe are getting alot of new stuff during the eye of terror campaign (new farseer models yipee) and there is even rumours that re are doing to be doing the eldar codex later this year (making the avatar be able to still take the fight to the bloodthrister - better save 3+ while a 4+ invulable ;) )

Drauthnir - May 23, 2003 08:43 PM (GMT)
Eldar really need a new codex. They are such a great army, but I hate the HQ choices. Avatars and Farseers are great, but I don't like the lack of options for the Farseer. I just wish I could give him a normal power weapon.

WarlordTrik - May 23, 2003 09:07 PM (GMT)
I will have to agree with you Drauthnir. There armoury is almost none excistant. Besides the pistol the only unique character weapin I like is the witch blades. I would also like to see a cheap fighter choice that you can personalize.

Drauthnir - May 23, 2003 09:37 PM (GMT)
Witch Blades are cool, and good against marines, orks, and greater 'nids. A warrior HQ would be a cool and welcome addition. He could have aspect skills like the honours for High Elves. However, if the Avatar gets the improvements mentioned by Tombguard321, I would probably get that instead.

Paco - May 23, 2003 11:02 PM (GMT)
I play eldar...and Dark Reapers are Sweet...i don't play 40k that much as i find there ain't that many tactics used in it like fantasy...as i see 40k as..i have the bigger and stronger gun...i win..Good Game.

Paco

Tombguard321 - May 24, 2003 04:05 AM (GMT)
Thats the reason why most people play space marines there basically one of the best coming after chaos (daemons :)) but then again there is Daemon hunters

gandalf - June 2, 2003 09:22 AM (GMT)
Greeting all
I have played 40K for 5+ years with my HUGE Blood angels army [3000 pts 5 tanks 2 dreads and 60+ troops] i also have a small 1000pt Black Legion army and did have a small eldar force. I havent played it in a while but will try to play more in EoT!!

Tombguard321 - June 2, 2003 08:33 PM (GMT)
Really to be honest the standing Eldar army are quite frail and are very unforgiven if not used properly considering the Blood Angels, which brings me to my next point, do you use Devastaors in your BA army as much as i know about them they arent worth it considering the blood angels need to test for blood rage at the start of each turn

King Ulrik Flamebeard - June 11, 2003 08:52 AM (GMT)
I play Blood Angels, my army's got to be about 6000-7000 pts (random guess). I'm also going to do an Eldar army, but I'm unsure which craftworld to paint them as. I was thinking of doing Biel - tain (Spel?) or Ulthwe. I'm leaning more towards Ulthwe as I've just got the new Eye of Terror codex, and the army list is great. But they are only allowed one aspect warrior unit :( (except dark reapers:D), or I was thinking of doing them from Codex: Eldar Craftworlds. I love the look and the potentional power of the Seer Council.

Btw my Blood Angels army has 4 Rhinos, 2 predators (one BAAL), 1 razorback, and 1 Land Raider. 2 Death Companies (1 with Jump packs), 6 Tact squads, 3 scout squads, 1 veteran squad, 2 terminator squads, 1 devastator squad, 1 bike squad, 3 land speeders (1 tornado), 2 honour guards (1 with jump packs), a bunch of independant characters and 4 dreadnoughts (1 furioso). And I still have to paint up 20 Tactical marines (15 normal, 5 with Lascannon, 5 with Heavy bolter), and 5 Terminators with Lightning Claws.

gandalf - June 11, 2003 09:11 AM (GMT)
Hi fellow BA player, u taking part in the eye of terror campaign?
I do have a devestator squad with 3 missile launchers [cant find a 4th at the moment and i might buy a plasma cannon]
they do have troubles with the black rage but the firepower when they stand still is of tremendous value of softening the enemy before the assault, i also have another 4 heavy supports though, and the main one i always use is my plasma cannon dread as i find it to be one of the best things in the game [except vs necrons darned 6 glancing hits!]
Nice army by the way flamebeard pretty darned big IMO

Tombguard321 - June 11, 2003 01:08 PM (GMT)
Is your going for a new heavy weapon either get a heavy bolter or a plasma cannon. Further note.. When picking a Craftworld Eldar I would prob choose Biel tann s aspect warriors become Troop choices (dark reaper base army, with Banshees for combat or scorpions :)) leaves the heavy support for the likes of Falcons, warwalkers or just take 3 Wraithlords

WarlordTrik - June 11, 2003 01:16 PM (GMT)
King Ulkrik, if you need any help with your Eldar, you can always ask me. I've been playing them for a few years and won most of my games. I was going to do Ulthwe too, but when I got Codex: Craftworld I saw that you were limited in your aspect choices (only one per guardian unit) so I went with Biel-Tan.

Tombguard321 - June 11, 2003 04:14 PM (GMT)
I also know alot about Eldar and without a doubt if you want to know any Eldar fansites feel free to pm me but without a doubt here is the choices you have with craftworld Eldar:

Sain hann (Fast attack army)- composes of Jetbikes and Vipers, real hard army to use and if you make a mistake, it will be the last one, real challenge.

Alolitic/ not the correct spelling a know (Ranger army) - consists of a large army of Rangers and Pathfinders, greatly affects armys during deployment with the ranger distruption table.

Ulthwe (psychic/ black guardian) - Large bodies of Psychers make up your Hq with Large forces of Black guardians (normal guardians with a + 1 BS) and a new couple of spells with as Augument and Wraithbone.

Biel tan (aspect warrior) - Aspects as troop choices, this is a hard army with Dark Reapers, Fire Dragons and the rest as Troops it makes a expensie army indeed.

Iyandan (Wraith army) - If you want a real expensive yet really hard army, theres the Wraithguard and Wraithlord armies. They tend to be out numbered but with multiple Wraithcannons instant death is around.

The choice is yours :)

WarlordTrik - June 11, 2003 04:26 PM (GMT)
What is the Wraithbone spell? Is it in the Eye of Terror Codex? I've never heard of it before.

Tombguard321 - June 11, 2003 06:11 PM (GMT)
Wraithbone is a psychic attack used in the shooting phase (i think) which basically opens up a doorway for the rest of your area to come through, it is inside the eye of terror codex :) I surguest anyone with Eldar: Ulthwe its a must

WarlordTrik - June 11, 2003 06:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah but that spell is only for the Strike Force. So not all Ulthwe players can use it.

King Ulrik Flamebeard - June 12, 2003 09:20 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the advice guys. I was going to do Biel-Tan but I wasn't do do some thing that would look very striking in colour (and I'm also doing a High Elf army - LOTS of White). But I like the background to the Ulthwe craftworld best, ie it's on the verge of destruction all eldar can fight and they are permenatly an army. But the new Eye of Terror codex has pushed me even more towards them, I like the fact that you can use the Phoenix Lord Maugan - Ra without permission and you can have as many Dark Reapers units as you want. But only one aspect warriors unit. But the idea behind my chose the Ulthwe craftworld is that it can be 3 armies : A normal eldar army (with all the trimmings), a craftworld army (1 aspect unit per black guardian units) and the strike force (fast and wraithgates (or warpgates?) but 1 aspect squad, except Dark reapers).

To gandalf my devastators have a mix (1 missile launcher, 1 plasma cannon, 1 heavy bolter and 1 lascannon), but i want a dread with plasma cannon (no overheating :D). I love close combat, thats why my Veteran squad all have chainswords and bolt pistols with vet serg (power sword).

gandalf - June 12, 2003 10:54 AM (GMT)
As a matte of fact Flamebeard my latest Blood Angels unit is... a Dread with plasma cannon! I got the arm from Forge World at Cry Havoc in Febuary 2003, it has to be one of the best units in the game! and when teaming with Furioso its a 2 man army  B)
Anyways i 2 am a fan of hth thats why i have a fully kitted jp equipped hg, and a jp equiped Dc and a Land Raider mounted Termie squad

Typheron - June 21, 2003 10:18 PM (GMT)
9000pts of Blood Angels
2000pts of Orks
1500pts of Necrons
1500pts of Dark Eldar

im either going to add more to the dark eldar or the orks to get them into a coherant fighting force, really its just the Blood Angels that get most of my attention till they recently reached Company size.

Moonshadow - June 23, 2003 12:09 AM (GMT)
Now that we have the new 40K section, I'm moving this.

Typheron - September 27, 2003 08:36 PM (GMT)
In the end ive decided to sell my dark eldar and orks, even tho their paint jobs werew getting good. ive lost interest in them, my necrons on the other hand will be increased with the profits from selling the other two, although i dunno how good my old necs are going to loook with the new ones.

T.N.E.T. Domination Inc. - December 24, 2003 07:02 PM (GMT)
Approx 1500 pts. Tau
Approx 1000 points Necron.
Approx 1200 points Eldar (not a craftworld-specific)
Once all my armies pass 2000, I'll start Tyranid.

Ulthwe's a good army, I say, but Biel-tan and Iyanden are also good. Alaitoc (that's what it is Tombguard) is one I haven't really looked into, and Saim-Hann is pretty poor. If used correctly, with flanking maeuvers and such, it turns really unwitting opponents into mush, but a misstep on the part of the Eldar player could feed it up to an earthshaker blast or other ordinance, not to mention the effects of an assortment of rapid fire weapons!!

farsight - January 7, 2004 07:23 PM (GMT)
I play Tau and i find them very resilliant but not to good in combat but when broadsides get to shoot, no one survives. go for daemon hunters (also i have been told they are hard to paint.
