Title: WHF or WH40K

I'm a Fantasy player i was thinking about a new army for fantasy, but i like also some models for 40K and here is the problem...i have seen a couple of battle of 40K and i don't like it...it seems too static with troops undercover trying to shot at enemies...Fantasy battles are never the same...So i'd like to know more about 40K to understand if my impression were right or not...in the end try to convince me to buy an army for 40k and not another WF army....

Started playing 40k first, better game by far, more flexible, better conversion opportunities etc.

BTW, no one has ever had a non-exciting game against me. :P

Fantasy is more tactical than 40k but 40k is quicker paced, their units and armies are smaller (unless your nids or IG). It can be a shooting range game but it's also quite good and the combat and other turns are fast.

Ok, I'm useless at this. I would suggest you ask to play a game or watch a few vets play and get the rules, these will all help you decide whether you want to play or not.

I say wait until the 4th edition of 40K comes out and then start a 40K army, until then stick with the fantasy.

40K has better fluff but Fantasy will always be my first love.

When is 4th estimated to come out?

40k is very much simplified. If you want a game where movement and generalship are important, it's Fantasy. If you want a faster, more streamlined game, 40k.

As far as conversions go, the possibilities depend completely on the person.

I find fantasy to be more fun, personally. It's more complex and detailed. 40K is cool, but, yes, it can be static. It depends on the armies, mostly.

Most GW stores carry demo tables, so try out a game if possible.

If you do want to try a demo game be sure not to tell them anything about knowing how to play. We did that and they were like "You bought the rulebook so you know what to do." It was almost a year before we got to play a game. I think 40k makes a good change from fantasy. I'm going to build up my 'nids army just to break the monotomy.

If you want to collect a 40k army collect Nid's. They are great fun and probably the most deadly army up close :) . (It's getting there thats the problem :( )

Do 40k first as it is a lot easier to learn than fantasy.

I'd say that i have loved the Aliens movies(with Sigourney Weaver, especially the first two...)and they are an army different from the shooting ones but i like also some Imperial marines...is there an army with Walker(Star Wars style..)and something like Gundam robots or futuristic vehicles?I was thinking about that Sister of something(the ones whose book is coming out soon i think..) they look cool are they good? What have they got as vehicles and special powers?
