Wow, I was just thinking this up in the car with no army book or anything. I was just guessing at point costs and I ended up only 48 points off. Anyway, this army is what I'm aiming for. It seems to have far too many core units . . . but most empire units are core. To make it 2000, if I wanted, I was thinking of adding some Lord, a halberdier detatchment of 8 swordsmen, and another unit of knights 10 strong.

Personally, I woul dump the greatswords for bigger core units, and maybe a mortar. And you can't add a marksman to a detachment, since no upgrades are allowed ;)

1)Your units need to have a BIGGER unit size!
Not just 16, but perhaps at least 20-25 or higher.

2)Detachments cannot have upgrades.

3)You should have perhaps 2 detachments per unit. At least that's what i
would do.

Grimgor Ironhide - May 9, 2003 12:37 AM (GMT)
They can't have upgrades? Poopy. I don't have an army book, I just downloaded it so I missed that I guess.

OK, I definitely need more artillery since cannons can just explode and that's no good. I don't like mortars . . . they're too inaccurate. I'll either add a volley gun, another cannon, or both. I can't help the unit size right now, I have no moneys to waste on that. I can give the spearmen two detatchments of 8 un upgraded handgunners, right? So maybe I'll add swap the 10 handgunners to another 8 strong detatchment, add a volley gun, and then work to strengthen unit sizes, add 10 knights, and if it reachs 2000+ points; include an elector count or something.

I thought it looked pretty good. Things I'd change would be you defnitely need larger units. The basic human stats can make you get killed and run down somewhat easily.

Some things to get in the future maybe, definitely a hellblaster. They're not real reliable but when you get a little luck, they can be quite devistation. Also, I'd honestly suggest swordsmen. They're WS4, have light armor and shields, and a fairly good buy. I use them non-stop.

Once you get to 2000, I noticed most all Empire players I've played against use an Elector Count. I personally like the Grand Templar Master quite a bit more. More points, yes, but they have better stats, come with all the little goodies added on such as horse, barding, lances, that sort of thing. And to make things even more fun, you stick that in a unit of knights and they're immune to psychology. This is very very special especially against undead armies.

Always remember too, War Machines can be beautiful things. Also, Greatswords don't work real well unless in a bit larger numbers, like 16 or so, maybe even 20 if you'd like. My experience with 12 hasn't been a real positive one.

Grimgor Ironhide - May 17, 2003 12:10 AM (GMT)
I don't have half of that stuff, so thnx I can think about what to get. I like halberdiers a lot more than swordsmen . . . S4 is a lot better than WS4.

JinUlrik - June 4, 2003 12:25 PM (GMT)
But Swordsmen have 4+ save in close combat due to hand weapon and shield conisder that. I prefer Halberdiers as detachments for my Swordmen and Spearmen.

Grimgor Ironhide - June 5, 2003 09:00 PM (GMT)
So . . . maybe 20 spearmen with 10 handgunners, 20 swordmen with 10 halberdiers, then just 10 or 20 handgunners?

Grimgor Ironhide - July 6, 2003 12:55 PM (GMT)
I've decided to ditch most of the goot troops and add a few more units of knights and pistoliers. And I got another cannon, too :)

Murmandus - November 29, 2003 09:19 PM (GMT)
Just mess around with your army and find an army that you feel cofortable playing with thats suits you

Murmandus - November 29, 2003 09:20 PM (GMT)
soz bout the spelling * comfortable*

Grimgor Ironhide - November 30, 2003 03:24 PM (GMT)
Wooo, been a while. Pretty much my army now (yeah, it's been a long time and nothing has really changed, but w/e): the whole army right now is 1333 points

Captain - Sword of Power, Enchanted shield. horse, full armor barding, etc, 122 points

Battle Wizard - White cloak, sword of might, lore of fire, level 2 magic, 145 points

Battle Wizard - 2 dispel scrolls, warhorse w/ barding, level 2 magic, 159 points

24 Spearmen (w/fire wizard) - shields, full command, detatchment of 10 handgunners, 273 points

6 Knights of the Inner Circle - Full command, 196 points

12 handgunners - musician, marksman w/ repeater handgun, 121 points

2 great cannon - 200 points

5 pistoliers - marksman w/ repeater handgun, 117 points

That's just the models that I have. I plan on adding another unit of 6 knights and a unit of 8 inner circle white wolf knights, a hellblaster, and 20 greatswords, and an elector count. I know, I like Grand Masters, too, but Elector counts get Runefang :) That will bring the army to 2401 points

JinUlrik - November 30, 2003 06:32 PM (GMT)
If you take an elector count one of your infantry units can take a standard worth up to 50 point, try to consider Griffon Standard to make your main foot block really nasty.

Grimgor Ironhide - December 1, 2003 10:45 PM (GMT)
I kind of like the Banner of Valour better. What's the point of a double rank bonus if you can't pursue broken enemies?

Swedishviking - December 14, 2003 09:09 AM (GMT)
Well, that's what detachment does when you break them..!
