Title: Tony Hawk's Underground 2
Description: The Hawkster is back!

Anyone remember the original THUG game? My main gripe with it was the light-weight career mode. It was way too easy, the challenges were too simplistic and it was way too linear. I bought THUG 2 with a lot of things going through my head, will the career mode be any better? Will there be any other modes to distract me and take up my time? Will the story mode be more humourus than the last? The answer to all these questions is Yes X3.
You see the key to THUG 2's success IMO is the new objective system. Instead of talking to a pedestrian to get a mission you have to go through the level finding and completing your goals without any help from Pedestrians or other skaters. Therefore encouraging you to travel around the level and hunt out the missions, this makes level exploration a lot more exciting and gives the player self satisfaction when they locate and complete a tough goal. The humour is also piled on in THUG 2. The intro is humourous involving you getting kidnapped by 2 thugs in hockey masks and hooded robes only to find out that they are Bam and Tony who have invited you to go on a world Destruction Tour. Of course I won't reveal anymore details for anyone who has yet to play it. A new addition is Classic mode. If anyone has played through the Pro Skater games (1-3) then they'll feel right at home here. You get a two minute time limit to complete objectives and get high scores. It's a lot more intense than the Story mode and makes for a nice distraction with 140 goals to complete. A new function is the Focus mode which allows you to slow down the action and allow you to land complicated combos with ease. This is extremely useful for any Tony Hawks novices new to the game. The game is a lot more generous too as when you bail you have the chance to get extra points by bashing the grind button before they get up. Your character will break their board depending on how high the freak out meter is getting you more points the higher it gets.
So to sum it all up I reckon THUG 2 is the best Tony Hawks game since Tony Hawks 4 and If you like extreme sports games then check it out.
9.1/10
Anyone else got it or going to get it? Give us your opinions :)

I owned the original THUG, but lost it...

Well my advice is forget it and buy THUG 2 If your still interested in the series. The control scheme is not too different so you can get into the game straight away.
Of Doom - October 12, 2004 11:16 PM (GMT)
Nah, I'm not that into it. Plus, I have other games to spend my money on, like Metroid Prime 2, Halo 2...
Margera-Centric - October 12, 2004 11:19 PM (GMT)
True, those two games will be a worthy investment. What I don't get is that Tony Hawks is on it's 6th game now. Not many games make it past that. When will they stop? And what will they do to stop the series from going stale. Mind you GTA 3 & Vice City had the same gameplay and layout but they still seemed refreshing due to great city design. THUG 3 could probably do that if it keeps up the good level design...

Only about every sports game ever concieved gets re-released every year without any noticable changes.
Margera-Centric - October 12, 2004 11:24 PM (GMT)
Hmmm Fifa is a big no no to me. They usually just update team rosters. EA Big on the other hands have made major improvements on SSX3. The free form landscape is great and hurtling down the mountain takes half an hour. EA Sports just seem to release Fifa and Tiger Woods golf every year with little minor changes...

EA Sports rereleases all of their games every year. And the worst part of it is: People actually buy those games, encouraging them to make more.

That's whats wrong with some gamers today, they fall under the trap of the official lisensced stuff no matter how bad it is. Remember enter the Matrix? That sucked, but it rose to the top of the charts. :(
Tony Hawks on the other hand is in my opinion always high quality stuff and is great were it counts most.... gameplay.

I actually never played the matrix game(s?). And I'm clueless when it comes to football games. All I see is a bunch of arrows and X's and O's and... I randomly select one that doesn't look to hard to pull off, and hit buttons. If it works, I use it again. Or I do "abnormal" tactics such as ignoring the play and repeatedly running into the goal post. In Madden football 1998, you can run into the goal posts and you fall over. And I think in NFL Blitz you get to beat up the players after the play; that's always fun.

Red Card Soccer was a decent footy game as you got to beat each other up and using Matrix style powers to score goals. Decent gameplay to boot too.

LOL
That's really funny.
Just remember, in the US, your football is our soccer. And our football, is, um, big guys in uniforms tackling eachother to ground... North American Football? That's what it's called in spain. I'm pretty sure. US football is something like: Futbol Nortamericano. AAK, I'm ranting again.

viva la bam? yay thug 2 looks awesome you can fire cannons tag on walls all kinds o stuff p.s we play rugby in nz
Margera-Centric - October 13, 2004 11:36 PM (GMT)
To be honest I didn't find the tagging move to be of much use. Using it in combo's is pretty much useless and it's not as fast as pulling off a trick and gives you less points. It's used in a few missions though so it does come in handy on story mode.

US football is beating up other people...and those are the MILD FANS.....The HARDCORE fans take a dagger to someone's heart...and the players fight over a ball andactually have RULES....they need rules in thestands, more, though.....

I can't decide if I want to buy THUG 2. I liked THUG but it seems to me that THUG 2 isn't that different. Feel free to prove me wrong though.
