Title: Halo vs. Metroid Prime
Description: Which is Better?
Of Doom - April 25, 2004 02:52 AM (GMT)
In my opinion, Halo. Neither of the sequels is out, so I'm not dure which one will be better. Unfortunatly, Halo's on the XBox (way too much $$), and MP is on the GCN (least $$ on the market, lol)
-Of Doom
Toanuvafreak123 - April 25, 2004 03:16 AM (GMT)
Metroid is and always will be my favorite series... Halo isn't much fun, in my opinion... Too ammoey. And NOT a rip of Metroid Prime. Everyone gets mad when I say that, so I WILL say I dislike when people say Metroid Prime ripped off it...
"Metroids are totally cheap copies of the Fludd!"
"Space Pirates are loser imitations of the Covedent!"
"Man, they so stole First Person Shooting! Halo practicly invented it, and now Nintendo's all jealous and stole it!"
I wouldn't get as mad over that if they'd consider all of the stuff in Metroid exept First Person was Pretty much there from the start of Metroid, long, long before any Xboxes and their Halos... >.< And I can't say I've ever been much of a XBox fan, anyhow. Moving in on Sony and Nintendo's territory.
Of Doom - April 25, 2004 03:40 AM (GMT)
I know that MP was first, but I think that Halo's more fun. And Tnf seems to be afraid of ammo (thats why you stop shooting when the other peep isnt around Tnf: WHAT I CANT HEAR U OVER THE SOUND OF MY POWER BEAM lol j/k)
Toanuvafreak123 - April 25, 2004 04:00 AM (GMT)
Actually, more like I can't hear you over the flamethrower charging which is aimed at your head... Oh, I am going to love the 2P MP2... :charmed: :charmed: :D :D :charmed: :charmed: :D :D ;)
Of Doom - April 25, 2004 04:04 AM (GMT)
You mean 4P? I'm gonna remake this topic when both sequels come out: MP2 vs. H2.
-Of Doom
Toanuvafreak123 - April 25, 2004 04:09 AM (GMT)
Okay. Oh, and I meant 2P since basicly Ice is the only one I know other then TToL who likes Metroid, and TToL and Ice never manage to come over at the same time (My mom has a thing about more then one extra person in the house for some reason.) so I never have enough Peeps for anything but 2P... I've forgotten 4P exists exept when I go to Ice's house when his friends are over for SSBM... But that's sorta off topic. BTW, Metroid and Halo are both really great games, regaurdless of which is better. I think the world may never know. Man that goes up with the other mysterys of life, like how many licks it takes to the center of a tootsie pop and what the heck E or MC were!
-Tnf the psycotic hyper dude who was better off in the Spam forum...
Jeremysr - April 25, 2004 05:23 AM (GMT)
I didn't vote anything because I've never played those games before. You should put a choice for that.
Of Doom - April 25, 2004 12:20 PM (GMT)
Okay, I added it.
-Of Doom
Toanuvafreak123 - April 25, 2004 03:09 PM (GMT)
But what if they only have played one? It gives an unfair advantage! Add that too add that too! Wait, I can as well... Oh well, it doesn't matter, really. Just don't vote until you played it. Or just don't vote.
Darkness Wolf - April 26, 2004 11:37 AM (GMT)
I'll have to sit this poll out. I haven't played Halo. Don't have an X-Box.
Of Doom - April 26, 2004 07:53 PM (GMT)
You can download a Halo demo for the comp. It sux, but it gives you a small feel (lacks 2P co-op, very laggy)

As if Metroid Prime could have any compitition  JK.
Bronze Griffin - May 2, 2004 12:51 PM (GMT)
I think Metroid Prime is a lot better. Sure, there's a little too much focused on scanning stuff, but it's an epic adventure with a great plot and tight controls. The gameplay just sucks you right in and you don't want to stop. Halo is brilliant too, but the action seems a little repetitive, and the graphics leave a little to be desired in places. It's addictive, but in my opinion it's just not as much fun as Metroid, which is one of the best games I've ever played. ^^;
Of Doom - May 2, 2004 06:11 PM (GMT)
I think that Halo makes up for other stuff using multiplayer. Gotta love it. Oh, and running around going, "WHERE NEXT?!" isn't as good as just goofing around in 2P Co-Op.
-Of Doom
Hyper-Gamer2004 - May 2, 2004 06:38 PM (GMT)
I agree with OD. (For some reason I always do)
And now I'm super hyped for Halo 2. I've already got a reserved copy.

I have an army of rabit Samus fans that would disagree.
*Bunny bounces along*
No, I did not mispell rabid.

Halo is by far better than Metroid Prime. Not only are the graphics better but so is the plot. When i *looked at Metroid primes i thought this is like other shoot 'em up games. i *looked at Halo and saw the difference in gameplay and graphics.
*looked- i have played both games
Toanuvafreak123 - May 3, 2004 10:56 PM (GMT)
Ah, but you have it wrong. Halo is just another bang-bang-shoot-em-up game. Sure, they have SOME story. It's good, I'll admit it. But if the good-rating of the story was equivilent on a scale to one to ten as the amount of unneeded curse words, it would have at least 2 quadrillion (Okay, I stopped flaming Halo, but I don't like uneeded cursing.)/10.
Metroid has been around since forever. Hundreds of thousands of fans have always been wondering about all of Samus's mysteries. How did her parents die? How old is she? Why did the Metroid hatchling save her life?
"Worse plot,", eh? "Worse graphics,", eh? "BBSEU game", eh?
Metroid has the best plot for ANY non RPG game I've ever seen (Paper Mario or a Zelda game probably takes the best plot award in my book.)
The Graphics in Metroid Prime, or ANY Metroid game are better then ANY Halo games ever will be. After all, I don't really care if there are individual blades of grass, it makes no difference to the quality of the game.
Halo, if ANYTHING, is the Bangier Bangier Shootier Uppier game between the two. but it's still pretty good.
And Metroid Prime has not only the best in those catagories, but it has a good, loved character. Mario. Kirby. Link. Samus. DK. Banjo. Wario. All of those, are the one thing Microsoft can't get to.
Also, Metroid Prime has puzzles. Well, not really. It's a good challenge, not to mention LONG! Me and Ice beat Halo, in, say, 1-2 hrs. I have at least 20 hrs on my Metroid Prime, and I'm far from beating it.
I'm not saying Halo is a bad game. It's a good game. Almost great. But Metroid will always, and I mean ALWAYS be better then anything Microsoft can release.
That was my 2 cents. Ok, maybe infinity googleplex thousand dollar bills. So sue me, insulters of Metroid that say it's worse then Halo get me riled up. The grade I give Halo is a A-. That, I say, is the BEST. I think it gets, maybe a B at worst. Metroid Prime got a A++, like the rest of my Metroid games.

Tnf, I'm sick of you. All you ever do is flame Halo. Hey! I also obsess about Samus and eat and breathe and think! (Sometimes for the last 3) In my opinion, they're both good games. Me too, I just don't like those that act like Halo is so great and Metroid Prime isn't... Prime has a good storyline, and Halo has awesome multiplayer. If you don't tone it down about, I'm going to have to take drastic measures (smaller measures don't work on admins) Actually, they do, but what evil person like OD would even care?

Look, I don't mean to flame Halo! It's a great game, just not good as Prime in my opinion. I just don't like it when people insult Metroid! Okay, I admit I sorta kinda halfway completely insulted Halo. I'll edit it out, and try to keep my lid on... Just no one say Metroid ripped off Halo around me... X.

No one's insulted metroid. No one's said that metroid's a rip off of Halo. I don't know where you even got that. Sure, people have said that Halo's better, but that's the point of this topic.

Sry, I was annoyed today, and just a little thing set me off... Oh, and calling Metroid just another bang-bang-shoot-'em-up game was sorta an insult. And a plethera of people on the Nintendo.com forums have said MP is a rippoff of Halo, so that's where I got the idea... Just forget what I said, I'm in a bad mood, as I said. Halo is great game, I just think MP is much better. And according to Ice, H2 is gonna be cool, with Ice and Fire Warthogs, 2 guns at once... Almost makes me want a X-box.
-Tnf
Of Doom - May 4, 2004 12:30 AM (GMT)
Ice and Fire double-gun warthogs? Where'd he hear that, "The Daily Informer"?
I've heard rumors of a grenade warthog, online capabilities, etc. BUT ELEMENTAL WARTHOGS?! I mean, seriously!
-Of Doom
Toanuvafreak123 - May 5, 2004 12:08 AM (GMT)
Ice gets some strange ideas in his head. And since I know virtually zip about Xbox, I have to take his word for it. He says he's right until proven wrong, and then says he was joking and I take everything to seriously. But that's the way Ice is... Oh, and not elemental Warthogs, the guns shoot fire and ice. And a grenade warthog sounds cool.

Ice - May 8, 2004 02:03 PM (GMT)
Also, there's a rocket warthog. I don't remember it's name, but it's a rocket warthog! AND I'M NOT LYING! I got the idea from one of my brothers friends, or my brother, I don't know who I got it from. BUT THEY BOTH KNOW HALO! AND I KNOW HALO BETTER THEN YOU!... maybe. My best thing is, the ghost! Wheeeeee! You go spinny and spinny and spinny spinny! And Tnf can't drive a warthog.
CAN TOO! >.<

Rocket Warthog is believable. Oh, and though I like the ghost, FEAR MY BANSHEE PROWESS! Mwahaha. So, Tnf can't drive a Warthog (or a Puma as the call them on
Red vs. Blue.com), no wonder...

GunLion - May 10, 2004 12:45 PM (GMT)
Ok people.. I am going to clear up this topic for you all once in for all.
Just so you know, I have both games and both systems and I am a Microsoft Cerified Systems Engineer and I own a Computer and Gaming store. I just say this so that you guys know that I am not just some "know it all" kid.
Halo vs Metroid Prime rundown
Graphics: The graphics in both of these games are great. They both use pixel shaders, bump mapping, gloss mapping and they both have volumetric smoke. They both use reflective physics and both have 5-point animation.
This being said, there are a few things that set them apart. Halo uses "Ragdoll" physics which alhtough is now very popular and there is a set engine for it, it was hard to do a couple of years ago when the game released. Halo also has anisotropic filtering and Metroid only uses trilinear filtering.. no biggie anyway because most people woulnt see the difference on a standard TV. Metriod does have a cleaner and more refined look and uses 8 source dynamic lighting. Metroid also has a lot of cool particle effects. I remember showing off the cool cannon effect to my freinds many times. I also like the nice touches like water on the visor and the very sharp heat effects.
All in all Metroid takes the win on Graphics.
Gameplay: Gameplay is the big tomole. Within gameplay is included, controls, story, options and so on. Right off the bat here, I will say that the control goes to Halo 100%. Why they used that stupid click-lock crap for Metroid I will never ever know. All I know is that FPS games should use dual analog..bottem line.
The story, once again goes to Halo. I found myself asking, "why the heck would all those boss's have pieces of my varia suit" in Metroid and then once I got the suit I asked, "why doesnt samus just leave now?". The story is weak and mixed into an extremely complicated level design. Halo is cleaner and the story is very cinematic and compelling. The levels can be a tad repetitive but at least they bloody make sense. In Metroid, I felt like I was going through a huge maze but with no real story, I didn't know why the heck I was going through the maze. Even after completing Metroid, I felt like I had no friggen idea what the heck she was doing. Also I hated having to scan the goddang room all the time.
The replay value in Halo is fantastic. Playing though the story with a buddy or going head to head makes the game awesome. Metroid is a great game but it is the same each time you play it. I really had little urge to play though it again after beating it. I still play Halo and I know many other people that do.
The variety of halo, use of vehicles, controls and top notch hollywood quality story make Halo the winner of Gameplay.
Sound... Who gives a darn a about sound?
Because the graphics are only slightly better in Metroid for only a few "technical" reasons, it isnt enough to convince me that it is a better game. When controls, level design, story and replayability is all there for Halo, You have to admit it is a better game overall.
Samus vs. MasterChief!!!!
Who would win in a fight?? I would give it the chief but Samus has seen and beat some serious baddies often hundreds of times her size.. hmm?

I'd be betting on Samus. A couple shots from the plasma beam would melt MC's helmet into his face, and that wouldn't be pretty. Not to mention a superior arsenal that Samus has. Wave buster, Ice beam, super missile... ouch.

For once, we agree... I'm sorry, but his serious lack of firepower is sorta sad. From the looks of things, normal missles are about equivilent to the super-rare rockets in the rocket launchers. Or Spankers, as I like to call them. (I'm sorry, but can't you see how dumb it looks for a weapon to be called the SPNKr? XD) Oh, and I have a bit of trouble beliving anyone important would come to this site, but if you really are working for Microsoft, it's sorta obvious what you would say is the winner. Oh, and I think MC wouldn't really like the Flamethrower much, either, since just a bit of fire gives him serious damage in Halo.
GunLion - May 11, 2004 02:06 PM (GMT)
I came to this site quite by accident. I was looking for info on Halo2 and MP2 but when i got here the topic grabbed me since I am a gamer and have been for about 22 years.
I dont work for Microsoft. I am MCSE certified. It is a cert and I mentioned it because it at very least shows that I have an in depth look into system configurations and programming which I do. I did say that I own and run a gaming store though.
As far as Samus Vs Master Chief. It really depends on the writing behind the battle. Technically Samus is a more powerful fighter as far as guns and gadgets but the Chief is all about going against the odds and coming out gritty but smiling under his golden visor. He is a soldier, a trained killer brought in when an army is just not enough and I am sure that he would find a way to outsmart and get the best of Samus if the writers wanted it to be that way. A crossover game where people could play co-op as the chief and samus at the same time would be sooo cool and finally unite the clans!
lol..unite the clans.. so corney

That last part sounds a bit like Crash Purple and Spyro Orange, XD. Sadly, I think Microsoft and Nintendo will never join forces, but if they did, we'd have one heck of a gaming system... Too bad they can't get over their differences...
GunLion - May 11, 2004 03:49 PM (GMT)
Carefull about the "Never" stuff. There was a time when Sega would never have ever built anything for Nintendo but look at them now. If the people demanded it, they would deliver for pure dollar-reasons. I think that a Halo-Metroid crossover would friggen clean up.

Note: Yo, keep it clean. But yeah, it would be scary. Oh, and don't ask what he said.

Oh heck yeah!
Halo 2 is the biggest thing since..well.. Halo 1
I saw a 15 minute demo video of Halo 2 where the guy (I assume it was a guy) played through what seemed like the first chapter. It was very well done. The Warthog had a cool laser canon and the gun you get is a rifle with zoom ability. He actually jumped at the right time and landed on a ghost that was coming at him. Then you see a quick cut of the Chief kicking the covenent grunt off of the ghost and taking over. It was sweet. In Halo 2 you can use 2 weapons at once and it looks sweet. I cant wait...drooool

I saw it too, but I can see what really happened. First of all, that guy is Master Chief, and his real name is John. Spartan SuperSoldier. Also, I doubt humans would have laser weapons, some fast-moving concussive missile, but... And the rifle? It's called the Battle Rifle, and is one of the new guns in H2. Next, it wasn't a grunt driving that ghost, it was a brute, one of the new species of the covenant.
But yeah, it rocks.
-Of Doom
GunLion - May 11, 2004 08:08 PM (GMT)
Okay you want to be technical. First of all, Humans can easily have laser weapons considering they are fighting a race that uses nothing but laser weapons. Is it so hard of a stretch that they would simply adopt the technology and add it to a new warthog design. The Covenent riding the Ghost may not have been a Grunt but I saw it only once and who the heck cares what it was anyway?
The "guy" I was referring to was not the Master Chief.. It was the guy playing as the Master Chief in the video demo.. oh and by the way.. I have read all three Halo Books and nowhere does it give his real name anywhere in the game or in the books.
If you want to pick apart someones post, at least get all the info right and besides.. take into concideration that this is a FICTIONAL game and if the Halo developers wanted to write the story as having Master Chief kill covenent by farting death rays from mars, they would. There just simply is no "unrealistic" in a Sci-Fi game.

Ok, I'm not really too exited about Halo two, MP2 is more my speed. Halo might be a better game to most, but it's too confusing... I keep forgetting how to use stuff, and the controller throws grenades too easily... Though it just might be the fact that Ice practicly broke it throwing thousands of grenades. >_<

It's "John", okay? Read it in a five-page article on Halo 2 in Game Informer. Plus, just ask anybody who knows. Oh, and weren't those Plasma weapons that the Covenant use?
-Of Doom
GunLion - May 11, 2004 10:50 PM (GMT)
He is actually John 117. As in Unit 117 of the Spartan II. He was referred to as John by dr. Haley. He was also referred to as Spartan 117. He is also referred to as Master Chief.. Is John his name or is it all the others? I beleive it is more of a code name than a family given name but of course I dont know because nobody but the people behind the secret of his face and identity do. I know everything about the Halo universe that I can.
Plasma Weapons..okay. but did you know what Plasma is? This is the definition of plasma according to the University Of Toronto
"One of the four states of matter. (The other three are solid, liquid and gas.) Consists of a gas of positively charged and negatively charged particles with approximately equal concentrations of both so that the total gas is approximately charge neutral. A plasma can be produced from a gas if enough energy in light laser form is added to cause the electrically neutral atoms of the gas to split into positively and negatively charged atoms and electrons. This Substance can only be stabilized by light laser direction."
So you see, calling it a laser weapon when laser is needed to direct and produce the plasma is not so far off.
Anything else I need to school you on?

Okay, I have nothing wrong with you two discussing, but please don't get too drastic. After all, it's a plenty unrealistic game. I mean, first off, how do they magicly come back in 2P when their Body is still lying there? How come no matter what, the warthogs don't run out of gas or explode? I mean, jeez, it's just a game! It doesn't matter! Well, fine, it may matter to others, but it's still no reason to fight over it.
