No topic about this yet?!
(Trying to keep spoilers away, but some of it might give away, so watch out!) Just saw it yesterday, goin' to go see it again tomorrow. I liked it alot. I don't waste time or money on alot of shitty movies (my favorite movies are: Leon the Professional, Jacob's Ladder, 28 Days Later, and Shaun of the Dead, to get an idea of what I like), but this was actually really good. One reason is, it's basically: What would happen in real life? It's pretty realistic with it's situations and choices, albeit, some of the stuff that the people chose to do was a bit stupid. Since it's filmed from first person, you really get more into the movie. I've seen alot of horror/thriller movies, and this is the first to actually get to me, to make me jump. The beginning, was pretty good too. You begin to get to know the characters. Almost like them (or loath them). You begin to connect to them, and the beginning drags on JUST long enough. Keeps you in suspense, waiting, but gets to the good stuff right before is angers or bores you. I thought that was pretty good. Plus, the monster, IS AMAZING! I went into this movie with very low expectations. I didn't think it would be good, but I really liked it. Also, I have a rar of the scanlated chapter 1 of "Cloverfield: Kishin", the manga that serves as a prequel. I can megaupload it if anyone wants me to. An okay review, I'll go see this after the county fair ends and hopefully when I have enough money.

The monster?
(Posted Image) That with a Skeleton Face and a Brain bursting out of it's head. The move was pretty good. Alot of people leaving my theatre quoted these- "That was Pathetic" 'What the hell?" "I should have went to see Mad Money" They more likely hated it because it wasn't your typical "OMG NORMAL PEOPLE FIGHT UNKNOWN MONSTER GUNS AND ANGELINA JOLIE'S BREASTS." I give it 4/5. First 10 Min. are kind slow. |

Everyone in my theatre loved it (and I live in Fresno). It was totally silent through mst of it, especially the intense parts, and 2 or 3 women (20+) were crying at the end.
XD it was nuts! |

I'm Not Kidding.
It looks like that with gray skin and Brain-burst Skeleton Face. And it lays these babies that are like Skeleton Spiders. When they bite you, your insides begin to liquidate until you- bleed uncontrollably, then blow up. |

This is the final art for the monster, and is exactly what it looks like in the film:
(Posted Image) The first panel to show it in the manga: (Posted Image) Concept art that was floating around, and pretty cool too: (Posted Image) (Posted Image) *SPOILERS* They kept the parasite idea, and it's BADASS! This post has been edited by Kyte on Jan 20 2008, 09:15 PM |

I just came back from watching it, here are my thoughts.
Now, if their's something I really like about it, it's that it makes it feel pretty damn real. using the handheld camera and people acting like what it would really be like if that was the monster. Speaking of the camera, I'll talk about that. While it made the movie look nice and real, it was a little bit bad on the eyes. Now I'll talk about the movies selling point, the mystery monster. I got to say, I was disappointed by it. Even though it had that awesome Giant spider shooting power, I still wished it was some kind of turtle. Overall, It's a pretty good movie, if you like creepy films of giant monster films, this is the movie for you. |

Yeah, I agree. I like the whale-ish monster design more, myself, but the current one is pretty creepy. I also love the current lice/spider/bug things!

appearntly, there're supposed to be multiple monsters, from what i've read... but who knows. all I can say, is I want to see this movie... that monster looks freakin' creepy... the whale one, eh, I just couldn't see it crashing through The City, fighting the military...

There are, but it's just the parasites on Cloverfield... I still wanted the whale idea, but the one in the movie was still plenty creepy...the only two parts that made me jump or shiver was when Cloverfield attacked the helicopter and when he chowed down on Hud *shivers* Actually, at first glance, it looked like it had the body of the Violator from Spawn only with a tail and the face of a Rancor with it's brains sticking out... I disliked the ending though as I wanted to see the (atomic?) bombs fall on him, however, you do get the impression Cloverfield is from space because at the end when it glitches back to Rob and Beth on Coney Island, and the camera is aimed at the ocean, you see something large fall into the ocean, unoticed by the people...actually, Cloverfield didn't really look like anything natural on Earth anyway, I was sort of thinking this was some mutation like Godzilla, but his look just doesn't match something that's been mutated... Also, but this is I don't know, if you stay to the end of the credits, you can supposedly hear a transmission that the creature is still alive after the Hammer Fall attack, which sets it up for a sequel. And maybe so, as I think only one person survives in this film and that's the black chick Lily... But we might not get it until 2009 as J.J. Abrams is working on a Star Trek movie for 2008...unless he can do a Paul Anderson and do two films in one year... This post has been edited by Hazzardous on Jan 21 2008, 01:06 AM |

no, I ment more than one of the giant monsters, not the parasites. maybe the whale, or something else... it'd be scarier if it was a co-ordinated attack, by multiple giant monsters...

Indeed it would...be something out of War of the Monsters =D Have Cloverfield take on Cerebulon, the final boss from that game... But no, just Cloverfield in this movie... This post has been edited by Hazzardous on Jan 21 2008, 03:57 PM |

Thanks for reminding me of that game. I want to go play it now... But it would be awesome if Clover fought Cerebulon. |
