Title: The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy Movie
Description: They better do a good job. *shakes fist*

There is a movie based on my favorite book and radio show The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (A mouthful isn't it?) scheduled to come out sometime 2005. The only known things so far is that some person named Garth Jennings is directing and writing the screenplay for it and that Stephen Moore, Marvin from the radio show and television mini series, is playing Marvin. Hopefully they can take some old audio recordings of Peter Jones to do the Guide's voice (he died 4 years ago). Everytime I think of the Guide I hear his voice.

I'm sure some of you know about the book, at least. For those who don't here is a basic summary:

The Earth is soon to be destroyed and Arthur Dent has just found out that his friend Ford Prefect is an alien. Ford saves Arthur right before the Earth is destroyed. They eventually end up searching for the question to the answer of life, the universe, and everything. It's a comedy. If you want more information about the book, then ask.

So what are your ideas about this? Any idea of who you think should play who?

The same guys they had for the television show maybe?

No, I'm not kidding. Check it out: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews2/hitchhikersguide.html

[Edit]Nevermind. They're too old now. Just checked.

Suprisingly enough, theres been a lot of news about Hitchhiker's lately - Bill Nighy, who was Viktor in Underworld and soon to be in Love Actually is signed on to play Slartibarfast, and Martin Freeman (The Office) is almost positively confirmed for Arthur Dent. If Freeman is cast, it's brilliant because Ive seen him on a clip of The Office, and he has a wonderful dry wit and flustered persona that is just SO Arthur. Also Warwick Davis is supposed to play Marvin (in a suit) though the voice has not been cast, and the picture that was leaked was NOT how I imagined Marvin, but is really funny looking. Theres even video of Davis trying out the suit, but I myself havent downloaded it though my brother tells me its pretty funny too.

The script was in fact co-written by Carey Kirkpatrick (CHICKEN RUN) along with Douglas Adams and was approved by him before he passed away.

The only thing I'm concerned about is who will play Ford - he's the only one I was never able to fully visualize when reading the book. So far the casting has been right on, so I'm anxious to find out who will get the part.

Arthur Dent - Martin Freeman

Marvin the Paranoid Android

Some news on the movie.

A cast list can be found here .

Marvin is played by Warwick Davis (the man who plays Flitwick in Harry Potter).
Ford is played by Mos Def (Left Ear in Italian Job and Ryrus Cooper in Monster Ball).
Trillian is played by Zooey Deschanel (Jovie in Elf).
Arthur Dent is played by Martin Freeman (Tim Canterbury in The Office).
Slartibartfast is played by Bill Nighy (Billy Mack in Love Actually and Viktor in Underworld).

Cast might change in the future.

Please, Geoff, let the dead lie. It's been WAY more than a week since this topic bit it.

Would you prefer he started another topic on the same subject? No? Jolly good.

I'm quite suspicious though... Translations from book to film never turn out right, so odds are I'll be giving this a miss. Got the radio show on tape and the boxed set of the books, just never listened to the tapes as I lack anything to play them with.
