Title: TRU Magazine
Description: Opinions, suggestions....

Illpoetic initiated this idea and I share her views on it.

Skov suggested a one-page newsletter but I think it should be more than that for a good start. By the way, is the newsletter to be sold or to be used as a promo material.
Personally, I'll be willing to write reviews, articles, and related stuff.
I think we should have some or all of the following features:

-Feature articles on the state of Hip Hop
-Interviews
-TRU Top Ten album/song picks for each issue
-Album Reviews
-Poetry/Lyrics
-Graff/cartoon or other forms of artwork
-Old School Feature for each issue
-Hip Hop News - especially undergrounds/indie labels
-Up and Coming artists/producers for each issue

The general concept or theme of the magazine should be to restore dignity in the Hip Hop culture and to show enormous support to talented underground artists.

Feel free to add to or subtract from my suggestions.

I'm not sure about the interviews with underground heads (let them write articles, instead), but I like the other ideas.

I'd like to see an actual magazine, but all of the desktop publishing equipment costs some serious money. A one-page (front and back) newsletter could cover several (or all) of the suggested things, if the articles were short enough.

The newsletter would hopefuly grow into a magazine. Get the TRU heads that want a copy (and who ever else wants one) to give 50 cents (or whatever cost) each month for one.

We could go to the libraries of our schools (the members that go to school, that is) and print stuff out, meaning the paper supply wouldn't cost us anything.

Sounds good to me, I meant to say interviews with artists, especially ones that are talented but less recognized by mainstream populace.

Ahh, yes. I should have realized that and thought of Scarface...

good ideas, I suggest starting as a newsletter also for the simple fact that it is much cheaper and will get us exposure so that when we do actually get to magazine level we will be able to afford it and have some clientele.

I moved this discussion from the Admin Office to this forum so that everyone can contribute and let's get this poppin'

Ok, as soon as we get enough responses I'll like Ill to oversee the allocation of roles and features that should be included. Everyone will then start working on their stuff and towards meeting a deadline that she'll provide. After we've collected enough material for the first publication (possibly a newsletter), then we'll have AxS do it and see what we got.
So Ill holla back on this thread. It's your concept and I believe you'll oversee it properly.

Illpoetic - January 28, 2004 03:16 AM (GMT)
aiight, honestly I got a tough semester ahead of me and I doubt that I will be able to oversee this project as I have been volunteered to do, I will however help with it as much as I can and do some reviews possibly and whatever else I can do.

I Greatly Love The Idea. Good Look Skov
And I Would Also Love To Donate Time And (Some) Money To The Project
I Would Like To Write An Article Whenever Something Inspires Me Also.

I could prolly at least contribute with a article or review here & there and there & here.
We can also spread word with also e'mailing it to someone who e'mails and subscribes in addition to having it printed out.

I might be mad late on this. But a email newsletter would be really great. And i would love to be a writer. I write for my school newspaper about hip hop all the time.
