Title: MC's and Poets listen up!

Illpoetic - June 9, 2004 05:02 PM (GMT)
ok, heres the deal.

don't ever force yourself to write, if you got the talent then it will come to you at the right time, if you are drawing a blank don't sit there and try to force things, it will not make for your best work, the things that pop into your head and send you running for a pen and pad are the ones that are going to turn into great pieces of work.

and I understand it is frustrating when you get writers block, but don't force it.

Rizoh - June 9, 2004 05:09 PM (GMT)
What a way to kick off the "genius forum" (according to JayPrimal).
That's a great piece of advice from a genius, and trust me, it works y'all. Whenever something makes me wanna run and grab a pen and pad, it always wound up in the Classics forum.

Thanks Ill.

JayPrimaL - June 9, 2004 05:52 PM (GMT)
That most definately is great advie Ill,every emcee should know this
and Im sure because we love to write so much we have all done
this because of lack of inspiration but when something comes to you
then you know your a good writer.

Illpoetic - June 9, 2004 06:58 PM (GMT)
yep, everything that has ever made me run and grab a pen and pad has actually either been placed in classics or nominated for a TRU award.

Korey Homicide - June 9, 2004 09:43 PM (GMT)
i disagree... i dont like working out or doing the speed bag in the gym but if i dont force myself to do it ill never be better........practice makes perfect and that goes for everything......sometimes forcing yourself will produce something incredible.

JayPrimaL - June 10, 2004 12:31 AM (GMT)
Yes but korey, music and writing is something we love and if were not
in tune with those vibes at the moment your not at your best.
Odds are you will just develope that habit of forcing things more often.

On another note, many time even when Im inspired lately Im not finding
the right sequence to place my ideas on.
Had some of my best thoughts this year and only written a few peices
I see as great work of mine.

Illpoetic - June 10, 2004 02:31 PM (GMT)
doing "the speedbag thing" and writing are slightly different...but to each his own.

Korey Homicide - June 10, 2004 10:45 PM (GMT)
im saying like i may not be completly flowing lyrically when i grab the pen and pad but when i sit down for a while it could hit me....or i could just be messing around and stumble upon a great idea. same thing with art sometimes the canvas completes itself.

but i get where u guys are coming from.

JayPrimaL - June 10, 2004 11:38 PM (GMT)
Yes, likewise korey.

Illpoetic - June 11, 2004 02:11 PM (GMT)
yeah, I see where your coming from kor. That definitely happens sometimes

but what I'm saying really refers to people who have a God given talent of writing, they need not force anything because things will come to them, but like you said when you're playing around and things come to you, thats no different than what I'm saying, because playing around writing isn't forcing anything, its just having a little fun. I think we're pretty much on the same page.

Korey Homicide - June 11, 2004 07:36 PM (GMT)
^^true....i get what your saying now.

SonnyDano - June 18, 2004 11:12 PM (GMT)
i agree with you illpoetic, great advice. whether it's when i'm playing guitar, or writing a rap or poem, my best stuff usually comes to me out of nowhere. i gotta keep this in mind when i write.

Korey Homicide - July 2, 2004 04:25 PM (GMT)
^^ u play guitar. thats cool i always wanted to learn.. took a few lessons but then i moved out of state for a while. i play the drums, piano, trumpet, flute, and ocarina.

but i wanna learn guitar.

SonnyDano - July 4, 2004 02:53 AM (GMT)
yeaqh i play. right now i'm trying to learn how to do a lot of effects with the guitar. there was this dude in the band rage against the machine that could make turntable and piano sounds from his guitar. i'm getting the hang of it. helps when i write poems, now i have something to rhyme to.

NsaneC - July 7, 2004 03:16 AM (GMT)
i wish i could play some instruments.

Illpoetic - July 7, 2004 04:39 AM (GMT)
yeah, playing instruments would be cool

I tried the cello when I was in middle school...needless to say that didn't work out, this sounds a little well stupid but the reason I first wanted to play it is because I thought that when I was out of class maybe I could play it like a guitar...didn't work that way...oh well.

SonnyDano - July 7, 2004 06:19 AM (GMT)
it's pretty fun, i messed around with different mechanics and weird ways of plucking strings to make a sound that's kinda like the siren sound thing on public service announcement on The Black Album. it helps when i have writers block, sometimes i just lay there make that sound until i can think of some lyrics to write. now if i can only afford a good drumkit, i can make some beats.

Illpoetic - July 7, 2004 08:43 PM (GMT)
you should save up for that drum kit, once you get it who knows, you may make some tight beats that people want to buy and get back all of your money plus some. Plus I'm sure you'll have fun doing since you already play instruments.

Rizoh - July 7, 2004 11:24 PM (GMT)
i can play "hands-on-desk" which is a way to produce some boom bop sounds by hitting the table in a masterful manner.

Illpoetic - July 8, 2004 02:21 AM (GMT)
"pencils-on-desk" also works rather well.

JayPrimaL - July 8, 2004 02:39 AM (GMT)
I bring my beatbox game into the hands and pencils noises.

SonnyDano - July 8, 2004 02:49 AM (GMT)
i got all of ya'll beat, i got hands, pencils, pens, and i tap my feet on the floor! GANGSTA!

NsaneC - July 8, 2004 02:49 AM (GMT)
i always making beats with pens and pencils during school.

JayPrimaL - July 8, 2004 05:33 AM (GMT)
Yeah it annoys people alot but im always doing it.

But I will beatbox, beat the pen with one and and snap with the other, stomp on the floor and some more shit!

CHEAH!

Rizoh - July 8, 2004 11:30 AM (GMT)
TRU is way more Hip Hop than KRS-One and B-Fats combined! Jeah!

Illpoetic - July 8, 2004 03:52 PM (GMT)
people get annoyed when you make pencil beats in class? Man they need to liven up. thats good shit.

Verz - September 22, 2004 06:52 AM (GMT)
^^oh so TRU

i do it while at work, and associates and customers both look at me funny, but i could give damn less

Illpoetic - September 22, 2004 12:12 PM (GMT)
they look at you funny but what they really want to do is bob their heads.

NsaneC - September 22, 2004 07:57 PM (GMT)
at lunch me and a group of friends, just started using pop cans/bottles and all different kinds of shit, and made some pretty hot beats too.

JayPrimaL - September 24, 2004 04:35 AM (GMT)
  LOL @ you northerners calling it pop.

Yea mine are hot sometimes with random mouth noises, snaps, claps....
but we all beatbox at lunch walking around and the occasional 10 man cypher that never goes how we want it to.

NsaneC - September 24, 2004 04:46 AM (GMT)
what you call it Soda?? wtf?

JayPrimaL - September 24, 2004 05:07 AM (GMT)
Naw son...coke.
Dont you know the south? Everything is in general like that.

Illpoetic - September 24, 2004 03:12 PM (GMT)

Verz - September 24, 2004 05:00 PM (GMT)
ive always called it soda, it makes me laugh when peeps call it pop

SonnyDano - September 24, 2004 06:06 PM (GMT)
i call it soda.

NsaneC - September 24, 2004 11:16 PM (GMT)
so, you call every carbonated beverage, coke, wat if its pepsi??

what's wrong wit pop. Soda sounds alot dumber to me.

Illpoetic - September 26, 2004 11:30 PM (GMT)
I think calling it all coke is stupid but thats what people from around here do, pop sounds funny to me

soda it is!

JayPrimaL - September 28, 2004 09:10 PM (GMT)
Wasnt this thread about the esscence of real poets and emcees?
Not that im knocking coke(soda, pop, etc...) cause it indeed is what hip hop is all about and all....
