Title: Random number Generating Methods
Description: How to get item drops every time.
Jaken Veina - July 1, 2004 05:00 PM (GMT)
I had a request for this in another topic, and I figured that this would be a good place to post it. Alright. RNG Methods. It might take a little while to memorize this, but once you do, you'll be glad.
None of the credit for this goes to me. This information was discovered by Diego Gonzalez and all credit goes to him. This is simply a compressed version of his works.
Also note that I will frequently talk of the DarkPanther (DP) Method named after its descoverer. The DP Mehtod involves resetting your game after each battle (the first battle after you turn you turn the game on will always give you an extra turn where the enemies won't attack) and killing the creature with a Djinni of its weakness. If done correctly, and if the creature recieves enough damage from the Djinni to kill it, it will flash a rainbow of colors before it dies. Keep this in mind.
Item Drops are determined by a Random Number Generator (RNG). If the enemy dies on the correct Random Number (RN) it will drop the item it holds. The first thing to teach you is Item Chance. Each creatur that drops an item is in a different Item Chance Class (ICC). A creature's ICC determines which RNs will produce an item drop. There are 9 ICCs with ICC 9 being the most difficult creature to get an item drop from and ICC 1 being the easiest (you will get an item each time). Here is a list of the RNs below 40 that will produce an item drop for the higher classes. Note that there are billions of RNs.
ICC 9: 1
ICC 8: 1
ICC 7: 1, 31
ICC 6: 1, 3, 27, 31
ICC 5: 1, 3, 27, 31
ICC 4: 1, 3, 6, 8, 13, 14, 16, 21, 23, 26, 27, 31
Now, we get to the difficult part. The only way to kill an enemy on an RN of 1 is to kill it with a single non-psynergetic attack. If this fails, there is no way to get the item drop from an ICC 9 or ICC 8 creature. This is where the DP Method comes in. Killing a creature with the DP Method brings its ICC down by 2 levels. Therefore, ICC 9 creatures become ICC 7 and will drop o the RN 31. This is what we will work with. So, the only question is, how do we make sure that the RN is 31 when the creature dies?
There are several things that happen in battle that increase the RN. Here is a list of them.
As I mentioned in the DP Method desctiption, if you restart the game, your first battle wil always result in a turn where the enemy doesn't attack. When you encounter the battle, a message will appear on the bottom of the screen saying, "Felix's Party attacks first." This means that on the first turn, the enemy will not attack. Receiving this message automatically adds 1 to the RN count.
At the beginning of the second turn, the game counts how many enemy actions would take place in that turn. That number is added to the RN at the beginning of that turn. Note that this occurs in each turn except the first in which the enemy didn't attack. Also note that there are only three enemies that take more than one action per turn, Phoenixes, Fire Birds and Wonder Birds. Phoenixes and Fire Birds attack twice per turn (2 RN) and Wonder Birds attack Thrice per turn (3 RN). All other creatures attack once per turn (1 RN)
When an enemy dies, it adds 1 to the RN count. This is the last RN to be added. Remember what i said about an enemy dieing on the correct RN? the RN generated from the enemy dieing must be the 31st RN. If so, the enemy will drop the item after the battle. Keep this in mind.
Next, we get to Psynergy.
Attack Psynergy whic damages enemies consumes 2 RN per target. Therefore, if I cast Grand Gaia on a group of enemies and three enemies are damaged, 6 is added to the RN count (2x3).
Healing Psynergy which heals damage to your party adds 2 to the RN count for each party member affected. Note that even if your party is at full health, if you cast Wish Well on your Party, 8 will be added to the RN count, even thought no one was healed.
Support Psynergy is psynergy that increases the stats of one or more of your party members. Also included in Support Psynergy are things like Cure Poison or Restore. For each part member affected, 1 is added to the RN count. Again, it does not matter if your party's stats are increased by 0, or if the target is not poisoned, etc. the RN will still be increased.
Status Psynergy is much like Support Psynergy, except that it decreses the stats of enemies. Also included in Status Psynergy are things like Sleep and Bind. Staus Psynergy adds 1 to the RN count for each target. Again, even if the Psynergy fails to affect the enemies, the RN will still be increased.
Finally, we come to the Djinni release used to kill the enemy. If the Djinni is of the correct element (the element that the enemy is weak against) it will add 3 to the RN count.
So, let's review. The RN that will be added automatically if you use the DP method are as follows. Also note that I will be continuing for two enemy battles as they are the easiest, and I will not include Phoenixes, Fire Birds, or Wonder Birds.
Beginning of first turn, enemies don't attack---1 RN
Beginning of second turn, one RN for each enemy attacking---2 RN
Djinni unleash of opposite element of enemy---3 RN
Death of Enemy---1 RN
Now, we add this up and it comes to 7 RN. This 7 RN will be consumed each time using this method, which I recommend. Therefore, we take that away from the 31 we want to get and we end up with 24 RN we need to consume. Now i will give a list of RN values for psynergy in a two enemy battle.
Single Atttack Psynergy---2 RN
Area Attack Psynergy---4 RN
Single Healing Psynergy---2 RN
Party Healing Psynergy---8 RN
Single Support Psynergy---1 RN
Party Support Psynergy---4 RN
Single Status Psynergy---1 RN
Area Status Psynergy---2 RN
Now, all we have to do is develop a method for consuming that 24 RN without killing either of the enemies. With 24 RN, all we really need is 6 Area Attack Psynergies (6x4=24). But, the problem we come across is, that we don't want to kill our enemies, and we don't want them to attack. If an enemie gets in an attack, the entire method is trashed. But, we get in 8 attacks before the enemy gets in any, so as long as we consume the 24 RN and unleash the Djinni killing the enemy, we should be fine.
Some important notes, if Area attack Psynergies end up killing your enemy, some good replacements would be Party Support Psynergy which consumes the same ammoun of RN, or Party Healing Psynergy which consumes twice as much.
Also, note that it is usually best if the character who will be releasing the Djinni attacks last. The best way to accomplish this is to equip this person with the Turtle Boots found in the Sea of Time Islet Cave.
Well, this should be sufficient for you all to make your wn RNG Methods and get those item drops you've been ripping your hair out for. For a more in depth version of this information or for examples of RNG methods, visit Game FAQs website and search under Golden Sun.
Note that my next project will be a list of good item drops, where these creatures are located and which Element they are weak against.
Happy hunting!!
BIG NOTE!!!!! If any of your active characters have status problems (poison, sleep, etc.) You will not receive the item drop. Note, that you can have cursed weapons equipped as long as you also have the Cleric's ring equipped.

Wow! complicated... But what are icc 9?
Jaken Veina - July 1, 2004 05:15 PM (GMT)
You mean which creatures are ICC 9? Basically, the higher the ICC, the rarer the item. The best thing to do is assume all the creatures are ICC 9.
Flames Inferno - July 1, 2004 05:20 PM (GMT)
so say i was fighting cruel dragons what would i do
Jaken Veina - July 1, 2004 05:36 PM (GMT)
Simple. Cruel Dragons are Mercury based, so you need a Mars Djinni. First, make sure that Jenna attacks at least third. If not, equip her with Turtle boots like I said before. If you sold them, you can just buy them back. Now, for your 24 RN think of a base of 6 area attack psynergies. I'm gonna make up an RNG Method for an example right now. Here's how it might go.
Beginning of Turn---1 RN
Sheba uses Shine Pasma---4 RN
Felix uses Grand Gaia---4 RN
Piers uses Megacool---4 RN
Jenna uses Searing Beam---4 RN
Beginning of turn---2 RN
Sheba uses Shine Plasma---4 RN
Felix uses Grand Gaia---4 RN
Piers Defends---0 RN
Jenna Unleashes Cannon---3 RN
Cruel Dragon dies---1 RN
Intheory, this would work perfectly and you would get the Tisiphone Edge after you killed the seocond Cruel Dragon. There's just one problem. There's no way the Cruel Dragon would survive all those attacks. Therefore, we make a few changes.
Beginning of Turn---1 RN
Sheba uses Resist---4 RN
Felix uses Grand Gaia---4 RN
Piers uses Megacool---4 RN
Jenna uses Aura---8 RN
Beginning of turn---2 RN
Sheba uses Resist---4 RN
Felix Defends---0 RN
Piers Defends---0 RN
Jenna Unleashes Cannon---3 RN
Cruel Dragon dies---1 RN
As you can see, Sheba's Resists take up the same ammount of RN, but dont do any damage to the enemies. Jenna's Aura does the same, but it takes up twice the RN of her original action, therefore, erasing the need for Felix to attack again. With this method, the Cruel Dragons will most likely survive, but will have taken enough damage to be killed by the Djinni. After the targe Cruel Dragon dies, kill off the other one, and you will receive the Tisiphone Edge.
Note that this may not work for some. You will have to come up with your own RNG Methods to suit your characters.

Jaken Veina - July 9, 2004 04:19 AM (GMT)
Wow. Kudos to you Zaber for all that work. But, simply keep it in mind that these may not work for everyone. And, if you read through what I posted, you can make methods for any situation, whether it be that the target enemy is alone, or with two other enemies, or with incredibly weak enemy, it's all possible.
ZaberTheAlmighty - July 9, 2004 07:30 PM (GMT)
True. But I did them when my party was level fifty or so, and they worked. Anyway, I'm no RNG genious, but I know how to use a few.

 i only just found out...
Jaken Veina - July 10, 2004 09:11 PM (GMT)

Kaede - July 12, 2004 04:47 PM (GMT)
oh, loo. another thing i see no sense in.
Flames Inferno - July 12, 2004 07:09 PM (GMT)
the_isaac - July 12, 2004 11:45 PM (GMT)
and it's also called spamming. but wo shouldn't get too complicated here. you might not understand, right inferno?
Jaken Veina - July 14, 2004 05:12 AM (GMT)
Ivan, the darkpanther method is a method of defeating the enemy that when doen correctly will lower his ICC or the chance that the enemy will drop the item it holds. The dark panther method involves mostly killing the enemy with an attacking Djinni of the element which that monster is weak against. This means that the enemy must be weak enough that the Djinni attack will be all that is needed to kill it. There is another requirement for it, however. Your characters elemental strength with that element must be a certain number more than the opposing creature's resistance to that same element. I do not remember this number off the top of my head, but the best way to make sure that this is the case, is to have all the characters in their Pure Class (Equip them with only Djinn of thei element) and have all the Djinn equipped. This will ensure that your elemental strength will be greater than your opponents. Also, you will know if the method has succeeded if the enemy flashes a rainbow of colors before it dies.
Another thing to remember, is how to tell what element the creature is weak against. It's simple. You attack the creature with weak psynergies of each element. Pay close attention to the punctuation when the game tells you the damage dealt.
--Enemy takes 300 damage!!! = The three exclaimation points indicate that the creaute is weak against the attack.
--Enemy takes 200 damage! = One Exclaimation point indicates that the creaure is neither weak nor resistant to the attack.
--Enemy takes 100 damage. = A period indicates that the enemy is resistant to the attack.
Enjoy! ^_^
the_isaac - July 14, 2004 06:49 PM (GMT)
I had no idea about that! Cool :)
ZaberTheAlmighty - July 14, 2004 11:10 PM (GMT)
The Ivan - July 15, 2004 09:40 AM (GMT)
Cool... so can i use summon to in this method?
Jaken Veina - July 16, 2004 04:15 AM (GMT)
Okay.....if you meant can you use summons instead of Djinn in the darkpanther method, then no. If you meant will summons have the same effect as psynergy does (weakness and resistance) then yes. I don't know about Multi-elemental summons, thought. I can hazard a guess that it will deal extra damage if the creature is weak to one of the summon's elements, but I don't know. Perhaps I should do some research.
umm....im confused in gs2 - October 2, 2004 07:56 PM (GMT)
i got a fool proof way to get tisphone edge
first save in da long hallways where u fight sentinal. then turn it off and walk around. if u dunt fight 1 cruel dragon than turn it off n try again
when u do fight 1 cruel dragon, do this
turn 1
issac uses odyssey
mia uses wish
piers uses wish
garet uses guard on himself
turn 2
issac uses earthquake
mia uses prism
piers uses prism
garet uses fury(other mars djinni work too)
u got tisiphone edge
itll always work 4 sure but remember only one cruel dragon
