Title: Favorite Song In Game Soundtrack
Description: Which one do you like best?

Max - December 19, 2003 01:12 AM (GMT)
Maybe it's just me, but I happen to think that the Golden Sun games have the best song soundtrack for any gameboy advance game. They are usually quite powerful and fit the situation well. I believe that the music in the game contributes to much of the gaming experience, 2nd only to the storyline itself. So what tunes in the game do you find the most powerful? I will divide them up into categories...

Favorite Battle Music: Battle against Doom Dragon
Favorite Town/Overworld Music: The overworld music that plays after getting all 8 characters
Favorite Dungeon Music: Venus Lighthouse
Other Favorite: File name screen (kinda relaxing somehow....)

Marlin ßeta - December 19, 2003 06:26 PM (GMT)
I love all the music, but I do have some favorites. Using Max's categories, here they are:

Favorite Battle Music: Jenna Battle (you know, that battle music that pops up when all the girls are fighting as your active party). That music has such a good beat!
Favorite Overworld Music: I like the overworld music from the first Golden Sun better personally.
Favorite Town Music: I like that special music that pops up only when the town is in distress. It's very sad and ominous.
Favorite Dungeon Music: Aqua Rock (outdoors). I can't remember if Aqua Rock's music changes on the inside of the structure.
Other Favorite(s): Mars Lighthouse (it's so cataclysmic) & Daila (once again, it has a good beat).

Max - December 19, 2003 09:21 PM (GMT)
Hmmm very interesting choices...for each category listed, most of Marlin's favorites would have been a second or third choice for me, although I usually prefer the more powerful tunes and stuff... I'd just like to add another one to my favorites. I like the ending credits song for some reason....I dunno it kinda fit the situation that was kinda happening between the credits, what with the Golden Sun coming and Alex climbing up Mt Aleph.

Marlin ßeta - December 20, 2003 02:54 PM (GMT)
Oh, yes. I love the credits themes from both games, too. However, I still think that I like the “in-game,” soundtracks better. I was so disappointed when I contacted Nintendo a year ago and asked if they had a Golden Sun soundtrack CD available. :( Of course, they said there was no plan to release Golden Sun music in that format. Oh, well. *sigh*

Max - December 23, 2003 07:56 PM (GMT)
What?!?! No Golden Sun soundtrack plans? Ohhh of all the....I would have thought that they would release some sort of soundtrack at least. I mean come on! There are Legend of Zelda soundtracks, so why not Golden Sun? I'd say that Golden Sun music rivals Zelda...of course, on the other hand, I can't think of any Golden Sun music that can beat the classic zelda tune...yes, you all know the one i'm talking about......gah oh well. Hey I just had a thought. Wouldn't it be great if there were a soundtrack that actually made the gs music sound even more like some beautiful orchestra? Some of them sound a little too...video-gamish, if you catch my drift...

Marlin ßeta - December 24, 2003 03:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah. That classic Zelda tune would be hard to beat. All the same, I completely agree with you. An orchestrated Golden Sun soundtrack would be awesome.

Max - December 24, 2003 08:32 PM (GMT)
Ah yes...hey...I just got a crazy idea that would never work! Why don't we assemble our own orchestra? Haha...The Golden Sun Symphony...too bad I suck at every instrument ever invented (even the kazoo) and have no musical talent whatsoever...heheh...Zelda, on the other hand, would probably do good as either an orchestra or some sorta heavy metal...heheh...

Marlin ßeta - December 25, 2003 04:11 PM (GMT)
Zelda heavy metal? I hate heavy metal. How about Zelda country, composed by Toby Keith? Now that would be cool! :D

Max - December 25, 2003 08:20 PM (GMT)
Country music Zelda? ::shudder:: Now there's a scary thought. Ugh...well, maybe not heavy metal, but at least somethin to do with an electric guitar?

Marlin ßeta - December 27, 2003 03:45 PM (GMT)
I've never been very good at telling what each instrument does. I used to play the piano, and I love listening to music, but I’m a total dunce when it comes to anything beyond that. Hey, you know what other music I like in the game? That battle music that pops up during Colosso in the first game.

Max - December 28, 2003 12:18 AM (GMT)
Colosso battle music? Yeah, it's alright I guess...I also found a couple more that I like, and they are Air's Rock and Garoh (especially when you first enter Garoh...the first time I heard that eerie music and then the wolf howl that came unexpectedly for me, it kinda surprised me for a moment)....wanna know my least favorite tunes, the ones that get quite annoying? They are the music from: Daila, Agatio and Karst theme music, Yepp's song that the little annoying kids sing, and the festival music in Izumo, after you defeat the dragon.

Silver Chaos Adept - December 28, 2003 09:39 PM (GMT)
I like the music when you fight Saturos & Menardi at the beginning of GS. And I love the battle music in GS! :D Also the Overworld music in GS2! I actually wrote some words to that.... <_< I also like the music in Goroh, it's so sad... * sniff* You know the Zelda CD? I have that. I got it with a magazine. :P It's great! I think a GS CD would be cool!! I'm very unmusical too... It's a curse. <_< But anyway..... GS 4 EVER!!!!! WOO!!!! But it does have the best GBA music. Not that there's any compition.

Max - December 28, 2003 10:05 PM (GMT)
Yes. That battle music when first battling Saturos and Menardi...that is also one that i like.

Silver Chaos Adept - December 28, 2003 10:12 PM (GMT)
Who wouldn't? :D I used up loads of batteries listening to that... :D Ah well. I don't buy them. By the way, have you played F-Zero GX on Gamecube? There's good music on that. :)

Max - December 28, 2003 10:14 PM (GMT)
Used up loads of batteries just on that? Jeez...that's kinda obsessive, don't you think? No I haven't played F-Zero...if you say it has good music, then maybe i'll check it out

Silver Chaos Adept - December 29, 2003 09:51 AM (GMT)
:D It has a great sense of speed too. Like when you're speeding at 1300 kph along the outside of a tube over a pool of lava surrounded by metal buildinds... What can I say? :D The graphics are great, some of the best I've ever seen :D Trust me, you gotta play this. My favorite piece of music is in the 'Big Blue' level though, where you race in glass pipes underwater... :D You don't wanna miss out on this, trust me, K? :D

Marlin ßeta - December 29, 2003 06:13 PM (GMT)
I rented F-Zero the other day and the only good thing I could find in the game was the music. Personally, I thought the game sucked. The controls are terrible and you use too much shield energy for just ONE measly little boost of speed. I didn’t even think the game did a good job of conveying a sense of speed at all. When I got up to 1300 kph it only felt like I was going about 45 mph. Extreme G 3 did a much better job of showing a good sense of speed. And the controls in XG3 actually respond well on corners. I rented F-Zero with the intention of someday buying the game. Now, I’m glad I rented it so I didn’t waste $50 (I only wasted $5).

Max - December 29, 2003 10:15 PM (GMT)
Well that settles it. I'm probably not going to waste the 5 dollars on renting the game if Marlin says its no good. I just trust his opinion more I suppose (sorry Silver). Ah well...I just realized something strange recently. I only like music from video games...

Marlin ßeta - December 30, 2003 03:57 AM (GMT)
Yeah, most video game soundtracks are excellent. I have the Donkey Kong 64 soundtrack as well, and the music on that CD is pretty much just as good as some of the Zelda soundtracks I have. I think that most young people like us hear so few music scores without lyrics that we are instantly drawn to the newness of video game soundtracks.

Max - December 30, 2003 08:13 PM (GMT)
Hey yeah that's a pretty good theory...perhaps had I been introduced to classical music before video games, I would have been more drawn to that.

Marlin ßeta - December 31, 2003 04:21 AM (GMT)
That’s exactly the sort of thing I wanted to say in my last reply. I just couldn’t spit it out for some reason. :P Oh well.

Silver Chaos Adept - December 31, 2003 11:34 AM (GMT)
Huh! Well, F-Zero is fine by me. Still, why is videogame music so much better than pop music? It's weird....

Max - December 31, 2003 08:49 PM (GMT)
Heheh glad I could help clarify what you said, Marlin...and Silver...any other type of music is better than pop music...

Marlin ßeta - January 1, 2004 03:34 PM (GMT)
Lets see. I don’t like modern pop, modern rock, heavy metal, R&B, or rap. Yep. That just about sums up my dislikes. Now then. I love country, oldies, jazz, blues, and big band. I think the biggest thing I hate about 90s music is the singer’s voices. Maybe that’s why I like video game soundtracks more than the stuff I hear on the radio.

Silver Chaos Adept - January 1, 2004 05:07 PM (GMT)
I like music from the '80's... Strange but true. Back then, there was more scope for new stuff. Now everything sucks. DIE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!!!!!!!!!!
Mist: YEAH!!!!
KILL GARETH GATES!!!!!
All: :D

Elephande - January 1, 2004 06:18 PM (GMT)
I like F-Zero X... that about it...

And Marlin, im with you.... 90's music sucks!

The best video game music ive seen so far is for Return of the King, b/c they used music from the movies

Silver Chaos Adept - January 1, 2004 06:54 PM (GMT)
A good point. LOTR music is very inspiring.

Max - January 2, 2004 01:44 AM (GMT)
Yes I must say LoTR music is very good...almost as good as golden sun

Marlin ßeta - January 2, 2004 03:44 AM (GMT)
Golden Sun video game music is by far the best. B) Hands down. No arguments. :D

Silver Chaos Adept - January 2, 2004 10:41 AM (GMT)
Yeah..... hey Marlin have you played Skies of Arcadia?

Max - January 2, 2004 07:17 PM (GMT)
I've never heard of it...What's it bout?

Silver Chaos Adept - January 3, 2004 12:42 PM (GMT)
It's like the only RPG on the GC. You play as a 'good pirate' called Vyse, son of the head of a band of 'Sky Pirates' aka Blue Rogues. He and his friend Aika rescue a girl called Fina from the evil Valuan Empire. Then they go off to find a moonstone that fell from the Silver Moon yesterday, and when they get back, the Valuan Empire have wrecked their island and taken Fina. Vyse & Aika go to Valua to get her back, but on the way their boat is wrecked by a passing Arcwhale. Luckly they are rescued by an old man called Drachma, who has a personal vendetta against the Arcwhale. They go to Valua and rescue Fina, learn about the mission she was sent to complete, and decide to help her. So they end up travelling around the world, to gather the 'Moon Crystals' that control the Gigas, insanely powerful creatures that the Valuan Empire want to control to rule the world with.

And of course loads of other stuff happens. It's set in the world of Arcadia, a world made entirely out of sky. People live in islands that float in the sky. There are six moons, a silver one, a green one, a blue one, a purple one, a yellow moon and a red one. There's a different continent under each one, except the Silver Moon. You don't see the Silver Continent untill the end part of the game. The 'Silvites' live in a temple in the higher sky. Fina is a silvite, as is her friend Ramirez, who has joined the Valuan Empire.

Maybe I'll eleborate on that later...... :D

Max - January 4, 2004 01:26 AM (GMT)
Different types of moons? Sounds like a weird game...there must be an awful lot of tidal waves too. after all, the moon does cause tidal waves with it's gravitational pull.

Silver Chaos Adept - January 4, 2004 07:07 PM (GMT)
There's no water Max. It's a world compromised entirely out of sky. The islands float around. It's a cool game.

Max - January 4, 2004 11:49 PM (GMT)
Ohh ok that does kinda sound cool, at least in its own way I suppose. Just who would wanna live on a flying island anyway? All it would take is a few wrong steps and little Timmy would fall off the island...and it would not be a pretty landing.

Silver Chaos Adept - January 5, 2004 08:44 AM (GMT)
Mwahahaha, hadn't thought of that! :D

Marlin ßeta - January 6, 2004 02:44 AM (GMT)
I’ve read about Skies of Arcadia in several magazines and I have the walkthrough in my Nintendo Power. I’ve been meaning to rent the game. It looks pretty good.

Silver Chaos Adept - January 6, 2004 09:39 PM (GMT)
Hell yeah! Although I personally would suck at being a pirate. I'd be like:-

Me: Hey people, can I have your money and stuff?
Person: No.
Me: Oh. * pauses* Okay. That's cool. Be seeing you, then.

But I think pirates are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cool. At least, Jack Sparrow is. :D What would I do without him?

Silver Chaos Adept - January 6, 2004 11:26 AM (GMT)
'Pretty good' is an understatement. It rocks!!!! :D I really like the Swashbuckler Rating thing.

Marlin ßeta - January 6, 2004 06:40 PM (GMT)
You really like your pirates, don’t you Silver? ;)
