Title: Salvation or Conquest?
Description: Which path would you choose?
Elephande - December 17, 2003 02:09 PM (GMT)
I would use it for the betterment of civilzation as a whole... I am not known for evildoing, and I doubt I would start then.
Lor - December 19, 2003 10:52 PM (GMT)
1. mary wasn't perfect(only catholics believe that)2. Not everyone can be corrupted by power. As for me, i have enough authority as i want so i dont need any limitless power. and if someone were dumb enough to take limitless power just like that, then that someone will soon have a flaming bag of dog crap on the porch, compliments of me ;)
Max - December 19, 2003 09:35 PM (GMT)
Hmmm...If you are serious, then I admire your will. Given limitless power, you would do nothing selfish. I respect that. Although...I still have my doubts...No human is perfect. Take Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings...he seems like a very righteous soul, and he is. But he knows better than to take the Ring, because he knows that while he will use it for pure intentions at first, he will inevitably use it for evil...
Max - December 16, 2003 12:03 AM (GMT)
If, in the Golden Sun world of Weyard you had tremendous power, how would you use it? Would you save the world from the destruction of evil and let all beings with souls live as equals? Or would you instead conquer it, ruling the land however you see fit? Ponder this inquiry honestly, for great power brings great temptation. Conquering the world does require evil and selfishness, that is undeniable. Basically, what I'm trying to ask is this: Would you use your power for Good or for Evil?
As for myself...I would try leading the world with the best intentions at first but I would eventually fall into the inevitable corruption that follows. How about the rest of you?
Marlin ßeta - December 16, 2003 06:12 PM (GMT)
I do not have a greedy soul. I know that I could use such a power for the good of mankind. Without a doubt, I could bring good changes to the world. That is as honest as I have ever been. B)
Max - December 17, 2003 11:12 PM (GMT)
So basically Marlin, you are suggesting that you would take control, but with the purest of intentions? Well of course you don't have a greedy soul now nor will you at first. But don't you think that after a while all that power would eventually go to your head? Even good souls can be tainted with greed after attaining such tremoundous power and responsibility. I doubt that you are a perfect person since no other human being on this earth is. The only two completely perfect human beings that had lived on this earth were Jesus and his mother, Mary. And even Jesus had been tempted at times, so of course you would be temtped too. Eventually, you would misuse that power, even if you didn't know you were doing wrong or didn't think it immoral at the time.
Marlin ßeta - December 19, 2003 06:48 PM (GMT)
I guess you didn’t read my comment the right way. Or maybe I just worded it wrong. Anyway, I honestly believe that there are people in this world *cough*like*cough*me*cough* that could not be corrupted by limitless powers. You see, when you have limitless power, you have to ask yourself, “What do I want?” And my answer to that question is nothing. I already have everything I want (now it’s my turn to put on the high-and-mighty routine). :P :D
Max - December 19, 2003 11:12 PM (GMT)
Well yeah, if I say Mary was perfect, then wouldn't that imply that I am Catholic? Aye...I wouldn't want limitless power either...too much responsibility
Marlin ßeta - December 20, 2003 02:49 PM (GMT)
Whoa, take it easy guys. This is a video gaming forum. Not a religious theory forum. Anyway, you have a point. Anyone who has seen Bruce Almighty would probably agree with that last statement. However, I still stand by my conviction that there are people in this world who are humble enough not to abuse limitless power. Even Kraden hinted that he believed the return of alchemy to Weyard would herald a new golden age of humanity.
Max - December 23, 2003 08:15 PM (GMT)
Well of course it would bring about a golden age of humanity...with the lighthouses lit and alchemy restored, the possibilities for growth in civilization had been expanded...but don't you think sooner or later corruption would once again shadow the earth? Sure, at first everything would be great and wonderful, but after say a couple of centuries things would not be so good. Why? Because I don't believe golden ages last very long. I think that eventually history would repeat itself and some wise people would douse the lighthouse flames once again in order to save the world.
Marlin ßeta - December 24, 2003 03:24 PM (GMT)
I don’t know about that. Hmmm. I’ve always tried to look for the best in people. That, coupled with events in the Middle East and everything else that’s wrong in the world. I don’t know. I’ve always hated that phrase. “History is destined to repeat itself.” First, I don’t believe in destiny. Second, look at all of the bad things that have happened throughout the history of the Earth. I think that man has the power to learn from those mistakes and NOT repeat them. I’m standing by my conviction that the RIGHT individual with ultimate power would not be corrupted by it.
Max - December 24, 2003 08:42 PM (GMT)
But there is no human being alive that I would trust with that sort of power...power should not be left in the hands of just one individual. No one individual could or should have to handle that kind of responsibility. That is why that responsibility should be divided up to a certain point. Democracy is the only way I can think of to handle it, other than letting Jesus himself rule us.
Marlin ßeta - December 25, 2003 04:03 PM (GMT)
Democracy? Ugh. Now we’re getting into politics. Video game forum. VIDEO GAME FORUM. Personally, I do not believe that any amount of checks and balances in a governmental system can truly prevent one person from running the show. If you have ever read the book 1984 by George Orwell, you’ll know what I mean. :ph43r: Temporary fascism is the key to ending corruption (there’s me being arrogant again). :D
Max - December 25, 2003 08:27 PM (GMT)
Hmmm haha....yes yes you're right it is a video game forum. No more politics...I don't care either way whether anyone wants to talk about religioni either, since I'll just remain faithful to whatever my beliefs are and you will too, and we'll all just have a happy helluva time...oh, and Merry Christmas. That is, if you are christian. I don't mean to offend you if you are Jewish, Muslim, Whatever. I suppose the politically correct thing to say would be to wish you a happy holiday, but then again I'm not a very politically correct person. So I'll just wish you a Merry Christmas, nothing more. :P
Marlin ßeta - December 27, 2003 03:41 PM (GMT)
I don't really belong to any particular religion. I worship in my own way. I've found this method is very good for staying on people's good sides. Soooo, I'm not Jewish, Muslim, or Christian. That way I can wish you a Merry Christmas, too.
Max - December 28, 2003 12:24 AM (GMT)
Oooh so you don't belong to any religion eh? (Time to start evangelizing to this atheist...) Marlin! You can be saved! Just find Jesus in your heart! Find him and accept him and....nah I'm just kiddin dude. It is your choice to stay atheist (although i wouldn't recommend it) and yours alone. I don't believe in harassing and imposing my religion or call people sinners and condemn them, I merely encourage them to try considering it, and if not then that's just their choice. Anyway...nuff bout that again...but really, did you expect such an already controversial thread not to start up even a little religious or belief conflict? I mean after all...it's about making a choice based on morality.
Silver Chaos Adept - December 28, 2003 08:45 PM (GMT)
I dunno how I would use it. Maybe ask Jesus to come rule us all? But if I could do anything, I would open a gateway ro Weyard, so I could marry Alex! :D YAY ALEX!!! Or perhaps Picard. :D Hmmmm..... I dunno! Maybe both! :D :D :D
Alex: Meep.
:D
Alex:
Max - December 28, 2003 08:53 PM (GMT)
Hmm....er....interesting choice...I'd marry Mia. She may look like a good girl on the outside, but DANG if you get her goin she can be one helluva chick...
Silver Chaos Adept - December 28, 2003 10:10 PM (GMT)
I love Alex!!! I'm very weird, it comes from being stuck in an all-girls school. Girls in all-girls schools are always weird/hyper. Dunno why. But Alex rules my world!!! He's so cute! :P
Max - December 29, 2003 01:41 AM (GMT)
Umm...alright then...Seeing how Alex failed at conquering Weyard, at least he should be comforted that he rules your heart. Too bad he doesn't have the same feelings for you, Silver. He's dead. Hahahaha because I killed him. But hey, if you're still looking, I'm single...lol nah j/p
Silver Chaos Adept - December 29, 2003 09:42 AM (GMT)
YOU KILLED ALEX!!!???!! HOW COULD YOU!!!???? Heh, doesn't matter, I could marry Picard, or indeed any other of the main male charecters except Agaitio, coz he's weird. One of the main good things about adolesence (I know, I can't spell) is that you tend to not be picky.... :D
Alex: * discreet cough*
Ahem.
Alex: Am I to be ignored?
Like I would ever. :D
Marlin ßeta - December 29, 2003 06:36 PM (GMT)
I’m glad we got away from that religion stuff. Anyway, you guys are weird. I’m more obsessed with video games than anybody I know and I would never want to marry a video game character. <_< :(
Max - December 29, 2003 09:52 PM (GMT)
So you prefer those one night stands with the anime chicks then, eh? lol jk...i would never wanna marry a video game girl either...
Marlin ßeta - December 30, 2003 04:03 AM (GMT)
Woo. That’s good. I was afraid I might have to cancel the topic before things got out of hand. :D
Max - December 30, 2003 06:31 PM (GMT)
Yes...we had lost the topic for a while...I say just let Marlin rule the world
Marlin ßeta - December 31, 2003 04:27 AM (GMT)
As nice as that sounds, I think I’d spend more time keeping my position as ruler than actually implementing all the good changes I’d want to take place.
Silver Chaos Adept - December 31, 2003 11:45 AM (GMT)
Well I have a different view. And I hate the Cheating Eyeball Rock for trying to kill Alex.
Max - December 31, 2003 08:39 PM (GMT)
Well, suit yourself I suppose...and yes, Silver, I think it's clear that we all hate the Cheating Eyeball Rock
Marlin ßeta - January 1, 2004 03:41 PM (GMT)
I don’t think he tried to kill Alex (if he wanted to, he probably could have). I think he simply wanted to put Alex in his place. To show him that he wasn’t all-powerful. That sort of thing.
Silver Chaos Adept - January 1, 2004 05:01 PM (GMT)
 That's just mean. To humilliate someone like that. There's really no reason to do that.
Mist: Poor Alex.
Luff: Stupid CER.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! ACRONIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All:
Max - January 2, 2004 02:04 AM (GMT)
Nah...the Wise One probably knew that Alex still had a role to play in the fate of Weyard...Who knows? Maybe Alex converts to goodism (the opposite of evilism).
Marlin ßeta - January 2, 2004 03:35 AM (GMT)
Goodism and evilism? Now we’re inventing new words?
Silver Chaos Adept - January 2, 2004 11:08 AM (GMT)
:D What's wrong with new words? :D I like that.....'evilism'..... sound like a satanic cult.....
Max - January 2, 2004 07:11 PM (GMT)
Is there a problem with inventing words? That's how language was made...people invented words for things. They combined specific types of noises to name things and ideas. Just how they got named was probably by chance at first...so it was likely that pens could be called paper, trees to be called water, and cats to be called ****s.
Silver Chaos Adept - January 3, 2004 12:44 PM (GMT)
I like inventing words! There should be more words!
Max - January 4, 2004 01:21 AM (GMT)
Then go invent some new words...no one is holding you back.
Silver Chaos Adept - January 4, 2004 07:08 PM (GMT)
How about 'Ketala'? YAY I MADE UP A RANDOM & POINTLESS WORD!!! :D
Max - January 4, 2004 11:45 PM (GMT)
Umm...ok then....good for you?
Silver Chaos Adept - January 5, 2004 11:24 AM (GMT)
Alex the Evil - January 5, 2004 11:34 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... I gotta try this... um... supercalafragalistic-expealadocious? No, taken...
-Alex
