6 years, can you believe it?
According to the trailer, this will either be a remix of the two games that were on GBA or a continuation, since Isaac makes an appearance in it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsZX3Ysj6og

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO! :)

Sui-kun - June 2, 2009 08:40 PM (GMT)
We've also already got high-quality artwork:

http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/9593/nt...ds01illu1e3.jpg

It's a big poster. Main character looks like Isaac, and we have a Garet lookalike, but the girl looks new. To me, it looks like a new cast.

Swordmaster - June 2, 2009 08:44 PM (GMT)
Yes, indeed this is amazing news, especially for those who've remained loyal to Golden Sun through these many years. However, the real question is if this is a huge hoax or not...

More importantly, the flood of new fans will prove to be a boon for the site.

craft user - June 2, 2009 08:58 PM (GMT)
OH OH OH........ i need a change of pants. when i read this i was on the ground for 5 minutes!dreams do come true

Sui-kun - June 2, 2009 10:00 PM (GMT)
No, not a hoax.

Conclusive Evidence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGVDyDNicDs

The presenter at E3 specifically mentions Golden Sun.

sol_blade - June 2, 2009 11:21 PM (GMT)
This make me so happy! :D muhahaha revival of the site!

Solmaster - June 3, 2009 12:10 AM (GMT)
I just saw it and came rushing back as fast as I could. FINALLY, IT'S GOLDEN SUN 3!!!!!!

Let the celebrations begin! *Dances wildly around the room!*

Sui-kun - June 3, 2009 12:23 AM (GMT)
ANOTHER VIDEO! IT HAS BATTLE FOOTAGE!

Swordmaster - June 3, 2009 12:37 AM (GMT)
Great find, Gene. This is a lot of proof already, surely this must be true. The much anticipated third installment of the Golden Sun Series is finally coming to fruition.

Sui-kun - June 3, 2009 01:13 AM (GMT)
One more thing:

QUOTE
After going dark six years ago, 2010 will see a new dawn. Golden Sun DS updates the popular portable Golden Sun role-playing series with an impressive graphical style. This installment follows the story of the previous heroes’ descendants and immerses players into the magic of its adventure by pushing the boundaries of intuitive touch-screen controls. Golden Sun DS is playable on the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi systems.

Lol, I'm going to every Golden Sun site I know, and they're all going ballistic. Dead communities are suddenly teeming with old members.

flamethrowerqueen - June 3, 2009 08:24 PM (GMT)
*living proof of part of the revival* ^_^

Well, at least it's their descendents. That gives us a good chance of having Alex back as the main villain/whatever in GS3! Which makes me very happy. :)

Alex = yay :}

Sui-kun - June 3, 2009 09:11 PM (GMT)
Hmm... it seems I'm the only one who thinks Alex does not a make a good main villain.

To me, Alex in TLA was pretty much a clown who tried to get infinite power, but was easily foiled. And that was that.

Mathias - June 3, 2009 11:32 PM (GMT)
Alex is a wuss.

Oh my gravy.

It finally happened, it's almost like our constant dismay toward Nintendo has had an affect.

Hey guys look, Mathias is here.

This must be big, eh?

Swordmaster - June 4, 2009 12:16 AM (GMT)
I think this new messiah deserves some plot guessing.

Sui-kun - June 4, 2009 12:23 AM (GMT)
Hai desu. Sugoku ookii desu.

What do you think of the graphical style? Do you think it should have stayed in 2D? Or do you think it was a wise decision to go 3D?

God of the Black Flame: Canti - June 4, 2009 02:07 AM (GMT)
I'm not too keen on the 3D on the DS... It doesn't appeal to me visually. I'd prefer if they had left it 2D, but that's beside the point. Finally another installment. I had to come see what excitement must be brewing over here as soon as I saw the Golden Sun E3 announcement (which I'm rather late in seeing it seems).

flamethrowerqueen - June 4, 2009 04:32 AM (GMT)
I have one thing to say to Suicune and Mathias:

:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

And yeah, I'm not too big on the 3-D graphics, either, but I think it's partly an adjustment issue. I'm sure I'll be fine once I actually start playing. ^_^

Sui-kun - June 4, 2009 04:55 AM (GMT)
Really? I think they're spectacular.

Honestly, there was really no other way to do it. Go for what--6 years? Only to create something that looks so similarly to its predecessor? 2D graphics for Golden Sun were excellent, but... when a series comes back after a long time, you have to expect some kind of upgrade. TLA's 2D graphics were absolutely (nearly) the best 2D you could possibly get on a Gameboy Advance. You can't improve much further than that.

If the game hadn't made the jump to 3D, it wouldn't have had nearly as much of an effect on the audience, I think.

Mathias - June 4, 2009 05:55 AM (GMT)
FF Chronicles for the DS has great 3D graphics for the system. It has good cinemas and is overall nice to look at.

It is also short, very short.

I would hate to see the same thing happen with our long awaited GS title.

Graphics are presentation, and if this game is nothing more than presentation, like Nintendo is good at doing, then it will fade out quickly. A swarm of people will buy it, but it won't be good enough to keep forums like this going and it will die too quickly to encourage Nintendo to make another.

Course it could also be an exact copy of the Sonic franchise and they just keep making terrible games with great presentation.

Rant.

I was never under the impression that Nintendo presentations were commonly breathtaking...

Also, there is not yet a reason to believe this game won't be good, Mathias. Your rant is not based on anything except a game developed by a completely different company.

Have faith. It's a GOLDEN SUN game! And it takes a lot more than graphics to make a game......... right? :gsseatdrop:

Mathias - June 4, 2009 07:30 AM (GMT)
The rant was too ranty and strayed from the point, which I'm notorious for doing.

The only bad thing I expected was for the graphics to just make the game too short. The rest of the comment, including the game not being good enough and dieing out, held a lot less ground.

I'm only good at anything debate-like when I can get interrupted.

So I'll try again.

I'm expecting the great graphics in the game to reduce the quality of the game by making it too short, and therefore somewhat of a small letdown. Which in the end could still be okay if everything else is great, I just hate seeing a bit of quality replace a lot of quantity.
I see Nintendo do that a bit more than they did back in the N64 and older days. I haven't seen quite as much come from other systems, but then again I don't have those kind of franchise expectations from other system's games so it could just be me.

Sui-kun - June 4, 2009 07:35 AM (GMT)
I see your point. Indeed, many recent iterations of games have sacrificed gameplay, story, and interaction with eyecandy.

But...

The Golden Sun series has always had great graphics, right from the beginning. That did not detract from the rest of the game. It contributed to it. And since Camelot is also a good company that rarely lets down (too much), I'm willing to believe that the same can be said for this game.

Mathias - June 4, 2009 08:21 AM (GMT)
Yes that is true, GS for the GBA looked amazing. I remember dropping my jaw when I first saw GS on my friends handheld.

I don't know If I want to use that comparison again though, I was using FF Chrystal Chronicles as an example, the graphics from it look very comparable to this. That game was extremely short too. They both seem to have similar 3D environments and the summons just add more to that. Comparing it to that FFCC is where I'm getting my expectation from.

I do agree that Camelot does a good job at not failing though, in comparison to Squaresoft blatantly ignoring good features for their games. So, I expect it to be too short because I'm comparing it to another short game with similar graphics. Since I expect Camelot to be good boys as usual though, I can at least give them enough benefit of the doubt where I'm not surprised either way.

flamethrowerqueen - June 4, 2009 12:52 PM (GMT)
(Mathias, you need to go to bed earlier! XP )

And after looking at those screen shots again, a lot of my trepidation with the graphics has disappeared; my main problem was with the characters, and in my eyes, the character running around in the trailer looked way too blocky. In these battle scenes in the screen caps, they look much better. ^_^

You know what would completely blow my mind (in a good way)? The return of Saturos. :gsjoy:

Sui-kun - June 4, 2009 05:40 PM (GMT)
Rawr. The title of this game could be "Golden Sun DS: The Return of Saturos". The fourth party member could be Saturos! :gshappy: :gsseatdrop:

...well, seeing as Saturos is no longer with us, the best Camelot can give us is a Saturos lookalike. Though it'd likely be a failed attempt.

Mathias, more time on graphics /= shorter game. FFCC for the DS was a (pardon me) "lame" spin-off of the Final Fantasy series. GSDS is a sequel of the main series. Furthermore, have you played FF4 for the DS? FF4 both looks good, and is long. Do you have another example of a DS game that sacrificed gameplay for graphical artistry?

Swordmaster - June 4, 2009 10:02 PM (GMT)
I was a little lazy to actually scroll through all the posts, but I read most of it for the general gist.

Alright... so... the graphics in my opinion aren't all that great, save for some of the backgrounds/landscapes and the summons.

Such graphics may take away from the story... which could be a major bummer... but above all else... I hope it has an amazing musical score like the other games did. In fact, I still have some of the pieces.

Oh, I do hope they go on in depth with the characters and explain some of the many mysteries associated with the series (like Anemos and Alex). Though, if they were to dabble in the past of some of the characters it'd be enjoyable...

On a side, fan-ish note... WHERE'S PIERS?!

Mathias - June 5, 2009 05:59 AM (GMT)
The music sounded great and will surely be epic through and through.

If they don't fill in some old plot holes I'm punching all of them in the face.

At the same time.

Sui-kun - June 5, 2009 06:11 AM (GMT)
I don't think there are any plot holes at all...

What plot holes? (discounting Alex, who may even be dead).

Also, that music being played was a track from GS1...

Lionman363 - June 5, 2009 09:09 AM (GMT)
Based on the descendants!?
I was hoping for a revival of the previous characters, hopefully they'll make an appearance.
Lol, IGN messed up in their preview, assuming the main character was Isaac. :}

Either way, the game is only in early stages of development, and we're only seeing three protagonists, the plot or gameplay could easily change, reminds me of Halo's hype.

How did I miss this for 4 whole days? Now I have this and heart gold to look forward to for ds =)

So, what do you guys wish to see in gs3? They absolutely must keep all the little hidden areas and items you can find by exploring with psynergy. Also plz a male wind adept who can use swords again, Sheba ftl.

Anyways, I'm gonna go restart gs1 which I just uncovered the other day.

Lor - June 7, 2009 09:48 PM (GMT)
I'd like to see some old faces and places, assuming the timeline allows it. Also new djinni.

Swordmaster - June 8, 2009 01:53 AM (GMT)
Above all, I'd like to see a variety of new summons, not just remade old ones.

I mean... I saw Ramses, Atalanta, Eclipse and Nereid in that. (assuming I was correct in assuming their adaptations)

Sui-kun - June 8, 2009 07:38 AM (GMT)
...I don't understand why so many people simply assumed that was Nereid. That looked nothing like Nereid. The only similarities are that they're both water-based and female. Everything else is different. :/

She's a new summon, Swordmaster.

She's a new summon, Swordmaster.

I'm in no way convinced that she was a new summon.

If you remember nereid pretty much drowned enemies in a deluge of water, similar to what this girl is doing. Also, if you go with mythology a nereid was a sea nymph (in greek mythology if I'm not mistaken). They were... offspring of a titan pair (whose names escape me at the moment).

Anyways, I'm still sure it's nereid.

Sui-kun - June 8, 2009 09:58 PM (GMT)
The Nereid in the GBA games used a fan, rode a turtle, and summoned a geyser.

The summon we see here rides a horse and wields a trident to summon a wave.

Different. While the summons seen in the gameplay video looked like copies of the ones in the GBA games, the water-based summon was completely different. That led me to believe she was new.

Swordmaster - June 10, 2009 06:40 AM (GMT)
Like with many sequels, they usually change tidbits but keep the general concept. Nereid would be a perfect example of that if this proves to be true.

Fact, both are mounted.
Fact, both use some type of channel/medium/whatever you want to call it.
Fact, both damage the enemy by means of a large body of water (as opposed to a concentrated force like Neptune or ice like Boreas).

Sui-kun - June 10, 2009 05:13 PM (GMT)
lol we'll see...

Swordmaster - June 11, 2009 03:10 AM (GMT)
Yes, indeed. A friendly bet?

Mathias - June 11, 2009 07:44 AM (GMT)
i hop et haz sighenirgy agen

Hmmm, where have my roots gone I wonder.
Bleck. No clue where I'll lead myself to.
