Title: AGD's Sydarm.
maggot6 - September 7, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
I am an AGD fan (having owned nearly every one of their markers) but I have never even seen a sydarm...Have any of you shot, tested, or owned one? How are they?
Maverick - September 8, 2005 12:56 AM (GMT)
im a big fan of them, though their not very effiecient, only fair to decent in the accuaracy dept (or it might of been me  ) but they have a nice feel to them and look realy cool.. the downside is the price, which the last time i checked was way up there, and didnt justify buying one to me..but if i found one at a good price, id be real tempted to pick it up...

i would love to see a sydarm with a pump kit
wispaintstyle - September 8, 2005 03:35 AM (GMT)
I played with a guy who owned one down at BFG (germantown, WI). He was about even to the spiders for accuracy. Altogether, I was impressed by it.

I
WANT
SYDARM
:pow:
AHHHH they're so great! I'd kill for a Sydarm! Well, maybe not kill, true violence is bad...But at least overshoot!

theres a sydarm with a pump kit in WWA's gallerys, i cant get it cuz my computer cnt see those pics anymore, but i remember it being there

Sydarm skip it if you can, dont let the hype fool you... My Zeus g2s were more fun to use when playing one vs one and in close quarter games.
AllAmericanDan - October 5, 2005 04:27 AM (GMT)
I used one at a Wild West scenario game we had a quick draw shoot out at the lunch break and they supplied Sydarms. I won my first round by the way. It was fun but about 3 minutes was as much time as I spent with her. I forget who eventually got me out.

Ya gotta love the little man rock'in dual sydarms!!! B)

shot an older one. Was nice and smooth.
Only 15 to 18 shots from a 12 gram.

Yep...it's a 'Mag. That's about all mine gets; and it's a pump.
Gazoo - October 7, 2005 12:49 PM (GMT)
No, really? I wouldnt have guessed that.
;)
Murf425 - October 7, 2005 01:42 PM (GMT)
Although on a completely unrelated note, based on the operation of a 'Mag vs that of a P-Mag, I wouldn't suspect that a P-Mag would be any more efficient, since it's still a blowforward. Unlike a 'Cocker vs Sniper situation in which it uses more air to cycle in semi mode, the Mag uses the same regardless.
Am I right?
TrojanMan - October 7, 2005 01:53 PM (GMT)
I'd say so. In fact, there might even be a legitimate claim that a P-mag uses MORE gas per shot...
If the action is fast enough (as on a Desert Fox, which has no on/off) that, in semi- mode, the 'mag does not dump the entire contents of the pressure chamber thus retaining some pressure above atmospheric, then a P-mag conversion would hurt your efficiency. On the P-mag, the chamber is held open, ensuring that you're re-pressurizing the chamber starting from "zero" each time. In semi- mode, this may not be the case. An interesting question.
Of course, in semi- mode, you're more likely to rapid-fire and chill the tank, thus killing your efficiency.
If I had to guess, I'd say the difference is too small to really worry about.
I've always wanted a sydarm, but it just never seemed worth it to me. When a classic 'mag can be had for sub-$100, paying an extra $200 for essentially the same thing seems silly. I'll buy one if I can get a good deal on it, but I haven't found one yet...
fuzzy_cheesecake - October 21, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)
Ive only shot one of the new style ones, but man did ever shoot nice. Balenced very well in my hands at least, and had a great pointability(if anyone gets what im saying there). Really shiny, but the 12g plug was a pain to get out. i think it had about 6 turns. but i might be mistaken.
Over all id love to have one
Pyrate Jim - October 21, 2005 09:30 PM (GMT)
I'd spent years trying to get my hands on one. This year I finally scored, getting my mitts on SN #00087. It's quite nice as a semi pistol, but I only played one game semi before I slapped a pump on it. Unfortunately, the pump handle is longer than the stock barrel. If my hand wraps up the front of the pump handle, I shoot my fingertip. Getting a longer barrel for a vert mag should solve that or milling a new slot in one of the other "classic" barrels I already have.
It also fit my Splatmaster holster without the pump on it, I kinda liked that.

I have one. It jams after two shots. Not impressed.

Yeh, I had that problem with both of mine, then a guy at a field told me that I was over tightening the rear frame screw. After loosening the screw a little, no more jamming. Definately one of my favorite pistols.
EnderWiggin - October 29, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
Rear frame screw? The thumbscrew under the frame?
Cool, I'll have to try that out.
I really like the weight and construction of the Sydarm.
I actually have trouble aiming with lighter markers, and stuck a bunch of stuff on my Phantom to make it slightly heavier!
Also, to the owner of this post; for the shots I DID get off, the Sydarm was slightly quieter than my ACP--which means it is likely more quiet than the Zeus, PT Extreme, etc.
Personally, I dig the hand-cannon sound of those pistols, but it's good for sneakin' up on folks.
UPDATE: I tried that tonight. Sort of fixes the problem, but i have to yank down on the frame every time I insert a CO2 to keep it from jamming.
For a 300.00 marker, I'm not impressed. I have the 'special edition' electroplated model, and it is a "new" marker. I would expect more quality control from a company like AGD, but I guess they're too busy rolling in profit to keep tabs on a product that sells itself in reputation. :vangry:
Sorry, I have high expectations of companies. I pay high dollar for quality, and some companies don't seem to deliver.

i've played with Vads agd side arms and zeus g2's and I would rather have the zeus G2 over the agd sydarm any day of the week and twice on game day.....

I'd I'd rather have bought a Zeus G2 over the Ariakon ACP/POS I now have. All copies of the Zeus are NOT created equal...
