Title: I don't want to make a stir, but...
Description: Just a few questions
golden220 - July 31, 2005 12:18 AM (GMT)
I have a few questions about how this "game" goes as far as a "big" game with a "senario".
I understand that there are two distinct sides. I understand that the Pirates want a hand that was stolen from them years ago.
I still don't see the reason for the Colony(ies) protecting the hand. Why are we not just selling it back?
How is this game set up? Other games I have been too have had specific roles to play. I know officers and generals are hand picked from the cream of the crop, but what about the rest of us?
-Are we just thrown up against each other with no real direction?
-Does the leadership coordinate attacks?
-Are there objectives given throughout the day?
-Is the game evolving?
I wouldn't care if we just run up against the other side, go to the dead-box and go do it again. The prospect of playing with other pumpers is enough for me, but I would just like to know a little more. It seems to come off as a social get together of pumpers rather that a game, with the recipie exchange and such. :P

We don't want to give up the hand because we took the hand from them so no amount of coin or anything else will get the hand back to the pyrates.
There are a few roles in this scenario but not as many as in most scenarios.
The leadership can coordinate attacks or allow their troops to just go do what they want.
There will be objectives to acomplish through out the day.
Yes the game is evolving.
The highlight of the weekend is the socializing. After all it's not the games but the stories from the games that makes great paintball.

That's very eloquently put.

Don't forget the buying, selling and gun whoring that will go on after play. :P

I don't see a motive there. Now if you said something like the Colony leaders want to keep the hand for financial and sentimental reasons, the lower "townspeople" would have a reason to fight because the Pirates are invading, and I am sure they would not know a lot about the hand.

Ok, so generals, officers, and other leadership.
amhildreth - July 31, 2005 09:14 PM (GMT)
The premise of keeping the hand is that it is supposed to be a good luck charm. The backstory states that since last year's battle where the town gained the hand, the crops have been abundant, crime has been almost non-existant, the women have been fertile, etc...basically..life has been damn good for the town starting from when they took the hand, so they're not likely to want to give up the good fortune very easily.

What if this hand has hidden within it the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. Or possibly it's a piece to a puzzle for tressure, like in "The Phantom" where 2 skulls point out location on the map, or "Indiana Jones" in the Temple Of Doom with the sun.
Maybe the Colonials know what it's true value/power/whatever is, and the Pirates only want it because it's stolen from them. Colonials want to get the goods for themselves.
Eh I dunno just winging out random idears.
golden220 - August 1, 2005 12:48 AM (GMT)
Thanks Andy. The hand, being a spoil of war and a bringer of good luck, warrants us protecting it.
I await your orders General. ;)

What is this, the Stanislavsky school of Paintball?
"What's my motivation?"
I think goldenrod is reading too much into a simple game. Just pre-reg, show up and have a blast.

I had a great time last time I was there(about 2 years ago).Hope to make it back quicker, but oh well.See you next year!

Aye, the whoreing! (oh, wait...)
Yah, I'm bringing some extra dubloons in the hopes of finding a long-lost gem.
As far as storyline, it is what we make it. Or have made it, it's a bit late to change things now (although we've seen things change mid-stream in the past, I hope it won't be the case this time)
As far as roles, the Pirates have that battened down. I'll be sharing that and other pirate booty with all who sign articles under the Black Flag.
Keep in mind that everything in this game is up to us, the Players. We started the story, We set the date and location, We're providing the patches, the props, the missions and pretty much all the advertising. And as far as I know, it's all volunteer work and donations.
I'm looking forward to a beautiful battle.

Damn, I hope I didn't choose the wrong side.
Too me the roleplaying makes a scenario what it is. I would love to just go play PBall with fellow brothers in arms, but the ability to do that and play a role makes it amazing. Must be my dramatic flair.

My name's Cargo (Chris) and our physco Militia Commander is Amhildreth (Andy).
The seadog with the happy-evil grin is Pryate Jim and I'm sure will also have a 1st mate in tow somewhere.
If you've got the uber-gusto to get your Role on, be sure to levitate our way at some point. I'm sure they'll be plenty of targets ,er, oppurtunties around.
:D :P

I fight not for king, nor country, but in defense of the good people of our humble colony. we have been prosperous, and lady luck has shined her good fortune upon us. Ensuring the colonies continued growth and sucess, under the magical, or even godly influence of the mysterious hand, is my mission of faith. we shall not allow these vile scurvey dogs to overcome us with their evil intentions. They do not understand the full power of the sacred hand, and we can not allow these pirates to again use it for their evil deeds...
Some may fight for their king, some may fight for their captains, many fight for our very homes and in that, we shall be victorious...
there are dark forces gathering elsewhere, and once we have defeated these pirate invaders, we shall move on to the next field of battle. it will be a long and arduous trip, many will not make the journy, and those who do will have a battle beyond their wildest dreams...our paths have been written, our fates pre determined, we shall fight on to fulfill them , and for that, the pirates must first be defeated. there will be no mercy...

Can I just answer with "I want to shoot Pyrate out.... alot"? =)
=P
Newtonium - August 2, 2005 09:26 PM (GMT)
Don't give our strategy away! They would never have figured out our objective if you didn't tell them...

Role playing and theatrics are wonderfully suited to scenario paintball. I often make a spectacle of myself, My wife is even making me a new costume for this game. You'll get back what you put into it.

In tow? I'm gonna have trouble keeping her leashed. The Demon from Delaware is after you boys...I almost feel sorry for you.

You are destined for disappointment. It's my intention that the Hand be returned unto it's rightful place, as I've said all along. Unfortunately it was STOLEN and now we have to go through the trouble of decimating the perpetrators. Burning, Looting, Raping the Livestock... <_<
It'll break up the monotony until Wednesday Night Bingo.

Yea we know LMAO! I thought I heard YAR! on the field a couple of times durring the burma game LOL j/k. Anyway Yes roleplaying is fun I was Emperor Hirahito in the Burma game and Yes Kamakazi was a tactic I did send people to do. Now granted I don't know much about the man himself but I do know he was a bit of a war monger and got the US involved in the war when he was told not to get them directly involved by several key personal and germans.
Best thing to remember if your playing a key role is to reserch it, but also keep in mind your playing paintball so historical accuracy is not all that important. the most important thing is to have fun.
Wish I could actualy play this game but physical problems are sidelineing me.
Durring the burma Game I did a bit of running arround and durring the night game i steped hard on a good size rock. Now anyone that knows me knows I have a HUGE problem with my left foot since i got a nail through it almost 2 years ago. Well there is a degenerative cyct there that needs to be removed and well it's been realy agrivaded since then I doubt it was becuse of that one incedent it has been bothering me alot in the past year so I think it was just the last item of many things thats happened to my foot that has caused this. Hell I'd still play but I realy dont want to hear my doctor screaming at me again like he did after the burma game so I'm gonna sit on the sidelines and take pictures. BUT BE WARNED shoot me and I will shoot back I always go armed on the field heh.

In tow? IN TOW? The only ones who will be "in tow" will be those of you colonists I decide to keep as my personal cabin boys!
