Title: Colonials Attire
golden220 - June 30, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
Pirates are pretty easy, they only have to choose where they are a pirate from, but we have to choose also what era we are.
So I ask all fellow Colonials, what style of attire are we planning on wearing?
Is it going to be the standard American 18th century dress with their tri-corner hats?
Or is it going to be like the Bors and other settlers of Africa?
Or is it going to be something different, maybe even unique?
We should have some uniformity. A colony most certainly would.

my best guess is were looking at a mid 1600-mid 1700's time frame, lots of variety there. not only tri corns, but "trader" caps (daniel boon fur style) and even basic "cowboy" style hats were also popular (flat, or down turned in the front brims, not the "10 gallon" style.) Puffy, frilly shirts with high collars were also the norm for "gentlemen." short vests were also worn by most, as were high top boots. colors were generally bland, whites and shades of brown or gray, sometimes with brighter orimental items like sashes.
im thinking a pair of jungle boots, maybe a set of fatigues in tan or khacki (or dyed brown) , perhaps and old tuxedo shirt, with a tac vest over it, and a hat secured to the goggle might make for a suitable militia man..

As long as Andy is ok with it, I think we have our uniform...or at least I do!

The Colonials were a "mishmash" of everything from soldiers to farmers to noblemen. Pretty much anything you want to cobble together will be good, as long it's comfortable. We're going to be spending most of the day moving around the great outdoors.

Judging by what was to come, not quite as worthless as the Crown thought.

Didn't colonials typically wear a lot of blue?

The Society Of Colonial Wars
In the State Of Connecticut
"Each individual militiaman was expected to provide his own weapon - usually a smoothbore musket - and ammunition, clothing, and food for a short expedition, just as the British knight had been required to provide his own horse, armor, and suitable weapons for feudal warfare. Local authorities maintained reserve supplies of muskets to arm those too poor to buy them and collected stores of ammunition and sometimes small cannon that could be dragged along through the wilderness. For really long campaigns, the colonial government had to take charge, the assembly appropriating the money for supplies and designating the supply officers or contractors to handle purchasing and distribution."

I'll either be wearing: team jersyey, team shirt, scp.com shirt or a sponsers shirt. but i may have to break out the old bdu's and get some camo action going on.
JoeG254 - July 7, 2005 06:14 PM (GMT)
I might just wear some camo because the actual scenario is going to be woodsball, but I would like to wear some colonial clothing from the revolution, they hid them well. Then there was the continental army, which wasn't really colonial militia who wore blue.

If i get to go. Darn classes schedule changed so I might not get to go. you'll se a bonny wee kilt knee boots linen shirt and hopefully -_- a nasty pug. -_-

the underdog - July 10, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
