el chupathingy?

Is that anything like the mexican yeti?

TrojanMan - June 24, 2005 04:22 PM (GMT)
This looks like it's going to be one of the best deals of the year.

$25 for a jersey, food, drink, fireworks, a whole weekend of play (with free air!) plus all the prizes they usually give away? Wow. You can't even buy a jersey alone for $25. EMR has the lowest prices of almost any field I've ever seen and the best quality at the same time. Honestly, I don't know how Blue does it. Ever since I can remember, paint's been $80/case and the paint just keeps getting better and better too - without raising prices! Whatever cosmic forces are responsible for providing us with a great place to play paintball - thank you!

I'll certainly be making this game and bringing everyone else along. We're looking forward to it. I just hope they have some jerseys in small and medium set aside so we all don't get stuck with bedsheets!

I know "Chupateria" is a shot bar - is "chupathingy" a subliminal reference to the ammount of drinking that usually accompanies large games? Hmm, I guess we'll see!

Oh, and I'll see everyone tonight! It's supposed to be scorching for this weekend's game. Just like the Wild West! Are there going to be any spare bunks available? I have a few non-preregistered folk joining us and they're looking for sleeping arrangements. Thanks!

Chupathingy is a play on/paradoy of Chupacabra, the legendary Mexican "goat sucker". Its an urban legend from Mexico that was at its peak in the U.S back in the 90s...lots of tabloid stories.

Back Story:
Strange animal mutilations in and around the grounds of EMR have been increasing over the past few weeks. Up until recently Blue and his staff haven't put any thought into it as it could just be wild animals, but then came the noises. First they were infrequent strange inhuman yells and sounds in the night, and again Blue and his staff passed them off as animals in the Pennsylvanian woods, but they grew more frequently and were heard during the day. Blue, fearing for the safety of his clientele and his business hired a local tracker to spend the night and hunt whatever it was that was causing this. The next morning, the tracker was nowhere to be found, but Blue did find his camcorder and note pad. The camcorder had some mundane audio notes by the tracker and some noises from the beast, but it was the very end that was the most disturbing. This "something" attacked the tracker and dragged him off into the wilderness.

Word has now gotten out, the Towns people are scared, they too have been hearing the strange howls and their pets and livestock are starting to disappear. They have formed up into a hunting party to eliminate the area of their problem. Blue, being the businessman that he is offers a bounty on the heads of these beasts. Blue from the weeks of observing his problem has determined that there is more than 1 beast here. It is a pack, not a normal pack animal like wolves or coyotes. These beasts seem to be more organized. Ultimately he wants them eliminated, but he knows he needs to eliminate the source of the problem. His conundrum is how to find the source? His only option is to try to capture some alive and see how they behave captivity.

While the townspeople have started to amass on the grounds of EMR, a new competitor on the field shows up, PMI. It appears that PMI has been tracking the migration patterns of these beasts. Not only have they been tracking where they are heading, but also where they came from, Mexico. These beasts are the infamous "Chupacabra". PMI has also knows something that most others don't, and they would prefer to keep it that way; The Chupa's drool make great paintball fill. It's thick, hard to wipe and bright. They are happy to cut the heads off the Chupas and harvest the drool the hard way. But if they can capture the Chupa's and breed them, then their manufacturing costs will drop and they will become the most dominant supplier in the paintball industry. They have dispatched their own Bounty Hunter squad to capture these beasts.

The Video recovered from the Tracker

Rules will be based upon the General Scenario Rules of Play found at http://www.scenariopaintball.com/. There will be no Plot Sanctioned Spies.

The sides:
Townspeople - out to eliminate the Chupas for their own safety and for Blue and to prevent PMI's quest to breed the chupas.
PMI Bounty Hunters - out to eliminate the Chupas for their parts in order to create a better paintball and to prevent the Towns People from destroying thier easy money.
The Chupas - a nonplayer, plot driven role out to eliminate everything in order to survive. Played by home team Pub Crawling and Friends.

General roles are currently available for the Bounty Hunters and for the Townspeople. Please contact me at "P @ Pubcrawling.org" if you would like either of these roles.

Well miracals do happen. I managed to get the holiday weekend off from work so that I can attend this great event. Now I just need to get it in writting from the boss before the impending transfer which will probably happen after I get back from PPII. (long story)
This will make the purchase of the season pass for EMR worth the money I paid for it. Needed to make 4 events this year and am now going to hit 5.

Well Equals P has just given me the green light on being the leader of the townsfolk. I hope to see a showing of some SCP members. Trojanman is my XO so either look for the man in yellow camo pants or myself in the red and white striped socks! Maybe I can put together a squad of SCP'ers to do my bidding... Who else is going? Sounds like a lot of fun for dirt cheap!

Marlo - August 18, 2005 02:10 PM (GMT)
There will be a few of us from CanCon attending this event. Not exactly sure of #s yet, but probably about 7 of us or so. Should be fun!

Hope to see you all there! :)

I'll be down again for this one... along with my wife, Nicki. Blue's Crew guys will remember her from BGLI. She's the one that drank most of the Rye in Camp Viper. Her, along with "The Steves" were a menace to themselves and all around them that night!!

See ya soon!

Are you planning to stay until Monday with the others or are you and Richthofen going back on Sunday?

I'm gonna go with the flow. I don't mind at all staying till Monday. But I'm riding with Uwe so I've gotta go with him. I know he's booked the room through to Monday so there's a good chance we'll stay. It'll be our last road trip this year so I want to make the most of it.

Generals have been chosen

The Towns People will be led by thier Mayor Waldo and his XO Police Chief Trojanman both of the Ninja Chameleons and www.StockClassPaintball.com fame.

They will be going up against The PMI Bounty Hunters led by Dave Adams and his XO Uncle Ray both of Horror Show ( www.HorrorShowPaintball.com ).

This announcement couldn't have come at a more needed time. It appears some Texan Chupacabra have been spotted down in the Lone Star State, These are a close relative of the current Pennsylvanian breed. Both should be approached with caution but the PA breed may be approached if significantly distracted with Food.

Well let me be the first to say that =p did an amazing job of writing, producing and running this game. Everyone had a great time all weekend. The players were top notch. The numbers were a little lite due most likly to the high cost of gas.
Both sides ( ok all 3 sides) played a great game of paintball. Everyone got into the roll playing aspect and learned how to trap, bribe or hire to work for them the Chuprathingies.
One of the most memorable parts of the day was when a member of the town folks used beer to bring us chuprathingies down to their HQ. WheresWaldo, the townfolks general game out and negotiated with the head chuprathingie and gave him all the food they had only to learn the hard way that it was no ways near enough food for all the chuprathingies present so we decided to unload and take their base.
Being impartial players we decided to do the same thing to the bounty hunters HQ. After the head chuprathing got all their food we took over their HQ also though we never had full occupation because their XO dove into the HQ where we could not go. Reinsertion being 2 minutes away we decided to hide in the woods and when their team reinserted we took most of them out also.

All in all a great weekend and I will have a few more stories when I have had some sleep. ( up untill 3 am swapping stories with team Horror Show then drove 6 hrs home)

=P ~ I had a fantabulous time this weekend! Excellent job on the organization of this event. -_-

We'll see you at Castle in a few weeks - Where I'll be playing with my NEW EVIL PIMP!! Hooray! B)

TrojanMan - September 6, 2005 01:32 PM (GMT)
:D Glad to see a few other people went home happy as well!

Speaking of giveaways, Pub Crawling must love giving me their 'bag o' goodies'. I picked one up at spring castle and now this makes two for the year. Maybe I'll pull a hat trick at fall castle?! Yet oddly enough, I can't seem to KEEP them. As I'm walking back, my girlfriend says to me, "Oh boy! I needed one of those bags!" *sigh* She let me keep the hat, banners and pods though. That was nice of her...

But all in all, great game to everyone. I had a blast even though we kinda lost. :(
My appologies if that bothers anyone. Waldo and I did our best to put people where they were needed. Actually, I checked the scores periodically throughout the day and we were never more than a few drool sacks behind. The final battle kinda killed us, though. Oh well. I'm going to blame it on bad luck brought about from Waldo forgetting his socks. But, everyone I talked to seemed like they had a great time and, after all, that's what's important. EqualsP, you did a great job of putting together a more than enjoyable game. Thanks again to everyone!

Marlo - September 6, 2005 02:22 PM (GMT)
TrojanMan ~ Congrats to you and Waldo. As hard as your job was and I'm sure a little frustrating at times  ,you both did a great job. It was a pleasure to meet and hang with you and Em this weekend. Oh and I LOVE your wheels! :)

Hope to meet up with you at Castle. By the way - are you defending or attacking?

Meph - September 6, 2005 02:32 PM (GMT)
That was one of the best Scenarios I've played all season, probably even compared to Last season too! Well organized, well run, not many kinks or any wrenches tossed in the gears... Thank you and congrats to =P and Pub Crawling.

Some of the more memorable moments in the game. Going one on one with Machine from CanCon (I think it was him, they all look the same on the field) on the speedball field. We were walking towards each other, he yells "Are you out?" I yell back "I ain't got a barrel condom on my guy." He says 'good enough' and starts shootin, I tuck into a bunker for a second then pop over top. Single shot on his tank to get him out when he was running. Then meeting up for a friendly handshake afterwards.

The final battle, right off the start I felt pain. Because I didn't pay attention to the ground earlier in the day, I thought it was like before. Soft ground, thick soft grass. So I think Okay, off the break go for center and slide in, I can slide far on this grass.... WELL there was a snag. The soft ground turned to dessert hard dirt and the soft grass turned into soft rocks! Lost about 1/2 my 10-round tubes in the process and plenty of hurt to follow. Oh... and then got shot.
But didn't give up, went to chrono, wiped off paint, back on field. The center bunker got cleared and I rushed again. Didn't learn from first time, I slid in again. This time making it. Held that little monster chupa for most of the game. Got bored about 15min in and started mating with it. Last few minutes the Chupas all bumrushed with grenades and got us all in the center out. Oh well, just ran back, rechrono, and dive back into the center to hold it for the remainder of the game.
I was gettin shot at a lot, but had about 2 or 3 refs constantly checking on us in there to see if paint broke or if grenades hit us.

I had an amazing time with this game. The paint shot great, the weather was perfect, and all around had a great time. These events are what keep bringing people back to EMR.

Thank you to all who helped make this even possible. The ref staff, field staff, all the sponsors, all the players, everybody. Hope to see everybody again in 1 month for Castle Conquest!

Meph ~ It was definitely Machine. It was just him and I at this event this time. My huge ponytail would have given it away if it was me. ;) And I'm really not that talented....YET!

TrojanMan - September 6, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
Now that you bring it up, I was a little disappointed that more of your crew couldn't make it. But, sometimes it happens and we all had a good time regardless.

As for our job being difficult, most everyone on the team did really, really well and were a lot more cooperative than we were expecting. Everyone just wanted to help out as much as they could and it was refreshing to see so many people working together. Of course, we still had a few from the "I hate scenarios, I want to play speedball" crowd (which, ironically, were absent from the final battle) which had some overlap with the "we won't wear arm tape but still complain about friendly fire" crowd but generally everyone was really great. :)

Hanging out at the base was A-OK with me. I haven't run with a semi- for a while now and my X-Mag was getting pretty heavy (not to mention all that paint, too) so I was glad for the occasional breaks. Though semi- play does have its advantages. He, he, one of the younger players in the pavillion asked me how fast my X-Mag shot. I told him as fast as I set it, but I never really set it over 10. He recommended that I put a rocking trigger on it to help me shoot faster. That was a good chuckle...

EDIT: I completely forgot to answer your question. Yes, I will most likely be attacking during fall castle. Perhaps in the future we'll try our hand at defending.

Not to worry TrojanMan! We have a large number coming down for Castle. 15 or 16 of us are expected. ;) Attackers BEWARE! :D

Epilogue:
Much to the dismay of the Chupathingies, The Queen's lair was discovered by the Towns People and the PMI Bounty Hunters. After a long fight to the end from all three parties, the PMI Bounty Hunters were victorious. They captured the queen and escorted her back the PMI's secret Chupa Breeding farm in the Pennsylvanian country side.

Thank You:
I don't know where to begin. The reviews and thank yous I have recieved during the weekend and am reading on the forums right now have been overwhelming.

To everyone who helped run the event, the EMR Staff, THANK YOU. Blue, Sue, Bob, Deuce, Potter, Chris. THANK YOU! You guys were there when I needed advice, questions answered, props, or just for a word of confidence. Thank you for entrusting me with the Rolls Royce of Paintball that is your Field and your livelihood - your EMR. I hope I returned it to you in at least the same condition when you lent it to me.

The EMR Ref Staff: Canadian Justice, Rich and his guys and everyone else. There is a reason why you guys are the Best Refs in the industry. THANK YOU. It was great to just have to explain the concept of the game and the new rules once to you guys and you ran with it. You made my job so much easier.

The Generals: Waldo and Trojanman of the Ninja Chameleons and www.StockClassPaintball.com for the Towns People, Dave Adams Coach of the NE Hurricanes (9th ranked Pro tournament team in the World) and Uncle Ray, Both of the Scenario and Tournament team Horror Show for the PMI Bounty Hunters.

You guys were fantastic. You played your parts. You kept the missions going out. You filled in the blanks for your players that I had to leave out of the morning's rules briefing for the time constraints. You kept things rolling in game on the field. Generals are such an underrated job but are still one of the many important things that can make or break an event for the players. You guys helped make this one great! THANK YOU!

Chupathingies: Pub Crawling, Brew Crew, Boneheads and Dewar. I told you guys to go out, have fun and distribute the drool.. and you did it. But not just like that, You did it with Class, you made sure that everyone else was having as much fun as you were. The extra step you went to Role-Play your positions wasn't required but it added a whole new level to the game. Because of you guys the game didn't turn into just a "Big Game" after the first hour but actually developed throughout the day into more of a Scenario than I had written. Right to the end of the game people were interacting and trying to play their parts and role-play. I had people coming up to me all day telling me how much of a blast it was interacting with you guys. For how you were willing to become a prop for me, to let me remove a little bit of your freedom as a player, I am forever grateful and you guys didn't let me down.

The Sponsors who helped make this event great:
Alchemy Paintball
Allen Paintball
Cafe Mundo
Engler Custom Paintball Guns
Flurry Industries
The Gunslingers
Hammerhead
Hoffman Apparel
J & J Performance
Magnum Boots
Generation E
Mr. Dead Guy Designs
Paintball News
Paintball Sports
Palmer Persuit Shop
Scenario News
Tippmann

and of course PMI Paintball. Chad and the rest of your staff, Thank you for being there and for being the primary sponsor of this event. I will also never look at a Margarita the same way again =)

These guys continue to support Scenario Paintball and if you guys can acknowledge them and thank them in an email, it makes all the difference and will keep them coming back out.

the G.O.B.S: Your Pig Roast for the Season Pass holders kept me going saturday and sunday. Thanks, it was delicious.

My Team: Pub Crawling. You know I couldn't be here doing this with out you. Words cannot describe how I feel about the Support, the Confidence and the Help I received from you in producing this. THANK YOU!!!! **Some advice for other producers out there, If you ever need rules looked through for Loop Holes and potential Abuse possibilities BEFORE the game starts - These guys are the best there are =)

And last, but by no stretch the least, The Players: You all showed up to play in my little world. You made the event a success. It was done for you and by you. Without you to fill in the blanks of what to actually do on the field, the game couldn't happen. THANK YOU for showing up and enjoying yourself.

Even though in the end, the Towns People (Blue) lost to the PMI Bounty Hunters (Red). Up until about 2:45pm, the scores were VERY close, the blue team was never down by more than 100 points. That is NOT a large margin. That was 20 Drool Sacks which were worth 5 points each. That was roughly 1 battle with the Chupas or 2 missions. You guys (both sides) should be proud for the game being such a close battle right to the end. In the couple hours or so, the margin increased slightly, but it really came down to the final battle. If the Blue team won the battle, they would have squeaked by and won the game by a few points, a close margin.

To everyone involved, THANK YOU for coming out and making my first National Scenario game a success. I don't know how I got my head in my truck for the drive home and it'll be months before the high subsides.

Since I wasn't able to get out on the field and play, can you guys post all your stories and pictures so I can see what I missed? =)

Thanks again
