Title: Custom Wood Grips
Blitzkrieg - July 26, 2003 08:40 PM (GMT)
This morning I woke up and for some reason I just felt the need to do something to my Phantom. I took the Hogue grips off of my 45 frame and It hit me, Wooden grips. I made my wooden grips from dark walnut and they only took me about half an hour per panel to make. I just cut out the panels with a chopsaw and sanded it down to perfection. I am going to stain them tommorow, If anyone wants a pic just ask I will E-mail a couple.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours!
But I have decent milling equipment so I did the pump handle to match the grips.
I'll take a couple close-up pics and send 'em to ya.
I don't have an active uplink, so I can't post them on the board. :(

and a question how did you mount them on the phantom i was thinking something along those lines myself

Thanx for the pics!
Hope you got mine...The front-on shot shows the angle of the pump handle. It's set 22 degrees to the right for left handed action. When I make a right-handed set, it turns 22 degrees to the left.
That, and the thumb-rest make a tremendous difference in the feel of the marker.
But you can't loan out a left-handed marker to a right handed person. They look at you like "what's with this?" when they try to shoot.

Those look nice!
Can you explain what kind of wood you use, and how?
I would asume that it was like a 1/4in sheet of it.
Thanks
Paul

Hey MNPumper, I think the wood I used was dark walnut or something and it was quite a big chunk. I just drew a basic outline of what I wanted on the wood and used the old chopsaw to cut it down almost to the size I wanted so when I had the basic outline of a grip about 3 times too wide I chopped that in half and started sanding them down so that they taper off on the edges and are nice and smooth. Then I drilled the holes in the wood for the screws to go in and used a bigger drill bit to put a hole for the screws to sink into. And VOILA thats about it. I am not terribly excellent with woodwork so I kept it pretty simple and didnt carve and finger grooves or anything, but hey I like it and thats what counts.

Oh, and if you can manage to find a 1/4 or 1/2 inch sheet of really nice wood go for it! it would be much easier that way.
