Title: How many participants?
Description: Any guesses?

rathbaster - June 30, 2004 06:12 PM (GMT)
So I was talking with some friends on this and we were disagreeing on the amount of participation in this event. So I decided to see what everyone else thinks. Round to the nearest whole number available... :)

it's cold, it's near winter, and there are NO rental pumps (so far)

I don't think it's going to be that many participants. Just the players that aleady own pumps will be there. (400 is my guess)

Not many are willing to "give up" their crutches and use a pump anyway. Too lazy too.

if theres anything to worry about, its the heat.. the last time i was at emr in august, it was in the middle of heat wave of upper 90's, low 100 degree days.. the pond came in quite handy.. not for tossing, but for staying cool... but hopefully well have a normal august there this year and itll be comfortable..

i think well have a very good showing.. its not to late as to stop most of the college kids from attending, and still with in the range of summer vacation for most people that have one.. so while we may not get 800 players, i think well have a great turnout and those who do come will be there for the duration and not just one day... the other advantage is that there allot of pump players in the northeast, and ieastern "mid-west" and the field is in a good location for both of those ...

as long as we can get the word out, the players will come... so tell everyone you can..we got a late start and have some catching up to do...

according to my math
you figure blues normal crowd-the homefielders
will be there

then you add the canadian contingent-they said they have abig showing
so thats over 10

then theres various other groups
marshals dogs SCP pgpers KPOG VMog blah blah blah etc.

I have
marshals MA
Marshals NY
marshals MI
marshals CT
marshals DE
confirmed so far more coming in

yah can be an easy 4oo if we spread the good pumpin' word

what im wondering is how many will be up for games on sunday?
the canadians like to get a boatload of games in because its a long drive back home for them so they like to leave early.

so bounce outta bed Sunday playwith them they're awesome.

Sadly my guess is actually more of the 100 figure. At least when rounded to nearest whole number. But possibly can see a 200 figure occur. Anything more than that.... I'm honestly very very doubtful of it happening.

It's hard to get more people to come unless you have rentals. Without those we're not really doing anything but supporting current pumpers. If the outreach/goal of this is really to bring in new pumpers.... without rentals I see that goal as sort of flabbergasted.

If I didn't dislike them so much, and if it wasn't EMR. I'd suggest trying to get NPS to sponsor this so we can get a crate-full of those Hornet and Maverick and Diablo pumps. They might be cheap nelsons, but they work well. And will easily do the job we'd want. Maybe not stock class but so what, tank and hopper is best for some newer pump people. They won't have the hassle of carrying the 10round tubes and reloading, let alone 12gram maintanence (we can't just dump 'em on the ground afterall). So for many new pump players a hopper/tank style of pump play is better overall. Weening them into the style of play, gradually to Stock Class.

Or even if (my first choice) American Paintball Supply if they happen to have any of those lying around, see if they could jump in and supply some pumps.

ok, if all the participants brought at least one extra gun for a loaner, then we can double the number of players.

of course, the logistics of trying to keep track of 100 loaners would be something else
AND that is ONLY IF all one hundred loaners came back.

I would certinally NOT recommend you loan your guns to someone w/o knowing who they were and then YOU get something of value from them (like their semi- Nexus, keys to their car, Checkbook, something)

And even then, I would NOT loan my kp-2 to someone I don't know

let me make a few calls and see what I can do.

I say 200. Which if I remember correctly, is more than we had to defend the castle last year.
So I count it as progress.
There's a excellant chance for 400'ish though.
I'm not seeing much hype for it at McB/PPIG/PHOG.

mike31c - July 1, 2004 09:18 PM (GMT)
I'm thinking that 200 number is a little low because more people wanted to be on the defending side but for some reason they were not allowed to. <_<

I guess that's why they needed to register early. Any walk-on with a pump was denied entry to the defending team (At least according to the talk over at MCB)

And if there was over 600 attacking, I am sure some of them wanted to be an defender but since didin't have a pump, wound up attacking.

Well we got Action Markers sponsoring the gig, why can't THEY get the pumps for loaners (rentals) Especially since they KNEW they would be sponsoring this way before the nonsense from K2!

And even IF someone managed to scrounge up 100-200 loaner pumps, and if they were all working decently, it would also be a nightmare in shipping just to get it to EMR. And that would be before someone got a hold of 100-200 co2 tanks and hoppers that go WITH the guns.

ug, I am getting a headache thinking about it. Maybe they need to crack open Blue's private collection in the museum and use them.

HAHA, or raffle the chance to use some of them!!

hmm, okay, given the fact that most people that are serious about attending this event(well call them the core players), are already into pumps, im guessing that those who dont have them will be tag alongs of those who do.. (following so far?) now, those core players, given our tendancy to collect these things, will probably already have loaners for their tag alongs.. or know someone who does and be able to arange it ahead of time..that being said, i think there will be relatively few people who just show up to try pump play.. there will be some, but i doubt it will be at the level where well have a serious pump shortage...
and lets not forget, a blade or similiar cheap pump can be had for under $40 form most sporting good stores..and are good enough to last at least a weekend of pump play..
maybe well have a cheap gun challenge if theres enough interest on sunday.. so those with pistols can have a go at each other..might be fun.. :)

so , i dont think the pump only thing will work against us, theyre available.. and between loaners, and low end pumps, fairly easy to obtain.. im still shooting for the 400 player mark.. :D
