Just starting a random thread about what types of drills people do. Both alone and in team format. I figure such a thread will be valuable to start-ups out there.
Some drills I have done (its been a year, so I can only think of at this moment).
Delayed break drill:
Start:Guns down, guns and faces away
Off the break: turn, bring your marker up, shoot a lane (autotrigger practice) for a 1-3 seconds, then run to/slide into your bunker.
Last team made all of its players including front players and back players practice this, in case any position switching was ever needed (ie player had a penalty, so spot needed to be filled).
Run through drill 1
Setup: Cones are placed behind bunkers to symbolize players
Start:Guns down, guns and faces away
Off the break: turn, bring your marker up, shoot a lane (autotrigger practice) for a 1-3 seconds, then run up one side and shoot the cones running by. Trying to get faster and increase accuracy with each run. (cones moved after 1-2 run-throughs)
This is to symbolize laning out the back player (or otherwise having a hole opened), then doing a run through in the created window.
Run through drill 2
Setup: Same as above, with one cone placed exposed at a bunker in front of starting player (represents a gun-fight)
Start: Player is behind a bunker
Off the break: Player at bunker pops out and takes a a series of shots at the exposed cone (players gun-fight). Player either hits the cone or not, but proceeds through the exercise. Remaining exercise is similar to above, with player doing a run through on the remaining cones.
This is part of an article from APG Magazine, written by Kristen “Lady Attitude” Kleist. The entire drill is in the February 2007 issue beginning page 84.
So go buy a copy of APG to support more articles and drills like this:
Instruct your players before they take the field that when they hear a whistle blow, freeze. (yes, you’ll need a whistle). They are to remain in this position until you instruct them otherwise. Start the game, give them about 30 seconds or so, then blow the whistle and freeze the game. Go to each player and ask;
A; What are you shooting at?
B; Where are your opponents?
C; Where are your teammates?
D; What are you gonna do next?
Thanks to Jubes for posting this in the Total Greif team thread.
