Title: Yes! I might be going...
Description: ...to the next Castle Conquest
C Danger - February 6, 2004 08:54 PM (GMT)
A group of my friends want to go to the next Castle Conquest. I think it's in the spring sometime? I'll be bringing my SC Phantom. They'll be bringing their semi-auto's... pshhh.
rathbaster - February 8, 2004 01:36 AM (GMT)
Are you attacking or defending?
I so much wanted to make CC17, but my finances prevent me :( ah well, there's always the EMR pump day in the summer (and CC18 this fall... ;) )

Hope to see you there! I haven't registered yet...but I positively will be there. It's a must :D I'll be running my Sniper, most likely.

I want to make sure you guys know what you are getting yourselves into.. this is a VERY aggressive paint fest.. ultimately it comes down to putting as much paint in the air as possible to try to take ground from the defenders.. they are aiming for 250 vs 1000 people, and with blues crew's (and friends) defending, I will warn you now, it will be VERY aggressivly defended, and there will be A LOT of paint in the air...
don't go pulling any pump elitism.. this isn't the type of game.. here by limiting your rate of fire you are removing yourself from a lot of the game.. this is not the type of game where you can pop out a shot or two and make a move, nor can you really sit and wait for them to come to you (unless you're defending). If you want to play your first event at EMR with a pump, I would highly recommend one of thier scenario events (mainly an MXS event). but don't get me wrong.. if you go into the event with the right attitude you can/will have a blast..
I also know there were a lot of complaints from defenders at the last castle about overshooting.. do the math.. if you have 4+ people for every defender, and (estimate real low here) only 4 people saw you pop up, and each person fires a quick 3 round burst at you(which we can agree is NOT overshooting), and they all hit.. thats 12 shots.. in castle, that's not overshooting.. thats part of the game.. now go with more realistic numbers.. 10 people see you pop up and manage to get off shots... thats 30+ shots coming at you, still not really overshooting.. also, people who are aware will not shoot you when your gun goes up.. but there is a lot of paint in the air shooting everywhere.. you WILL got shot A LOT even though you are dead while walking back to the deadbox.. deal, it's not on purpose..
for the duration of the game, all you will hear are the sounds of guns and the sounds of paint hitting the walls of the castle, turn your TV to a non-station and listen the the static.. now speed it up and turn up the volume.. thats what it sounds like ;)
Just trying to see less shell shock in the eyes of the pump players this event than I saw at the pump vs semi event..
btw, I'm defending, bring it on :P

It's true. CC XVI was my first big event...I defended. It was truly frightening to see the volume of paint coming at me as I tried to sit in one of the top corners of that castle...it was insane. But, it was a trip anyways...and I had a riot. Heh now that I know what I'm up against, it'll be a different game, and I'll definitely be prepared. Bring on the paint! :D
I'd like to defend this one too, so I figure I'd better pre-reg quick...are there still spots open?

call and ask.. I think it may be a safe assumption for the next few weeks, but no guarantees.. I don't know, I haven't talked to them.. being a member of one of the "and friends" teams (Pubcrawling) my captain takes care of it all and just tells me I am signed up..

My first castle game was defending. I didn't think it was all that bad B) I'll do it again, still using my sniper II. I can see where the people playing stock felt outgunned if they had never been outnumbered before. I like it, it means I worry less about hitting my team mates.
I think the biggest reason that the pump defense fell was the lack of pump defense. I was ready to charge out every insertion right up til they called it. If they told us that would be our last insertion and let us go, I would have gone no complaints. It seems that more than half the defense was not that willing. *shrug* that's how it goes.

after this thread I've decided to offer the following 'deal'
http://www.paintballresource.org/forums/vi...pic.php?t=10886Anyone who gives me a free night of unlimited booze can unload on me in only a cup and boxers with 5 of his friends with a full hopper each. Why? Because I'm all crazy like that.
EDIT:
and on the note of using pumps at castle, you can do it quite effectivly IF you know how. if you havn't been to that many other scenarios where you've used limited fire I would strongly recomend against it though. Big games like this take a diffrent mind set and skill when playing pump then other scenario games.
Equals, I don't mean to sound disrespectful, I know we've disagreed a lot in the past; this is just my personal experience. I did quite well at last castle, was on the wall in the stairwell most of the game and I believe I did quite well. i would have done better with a semi perhaps but it wouldn't have been quite as fun :) Your advice does pretain to most members on this board though IMHO.
I'll defiently be using both the pistol and kp2 at this game if I can find my bloody remote.

I agree.. but like you said, you need the proper mindset... castle is a VERY unique game.. I want to play out the worst case scenario so people can understand..

No Prob.. in a game like castle, people who show up playing purely stock class are at a great disadvantage to themselves and thier team... when all you can carry on yourself are 350 rounds, and you have about 3x that attacking on a 20 minute recycle, you are going to screw yourself very very very quickly..
=P
10-shot kid - February 10, 2004 04:50 AM (GMT)
oh don't worry I can carry 800 rounds which is enoguh :) At castle I shot 400 rounds total and that was with intense firing almost the whole game. Except when i play cat and mouse with some semi players in the front wall :)

Hey I'm stationed in CA right now but I'm flying home to NJ and am planning to attend Castle Quest. I'm comfortable with the idea of a lot of paint in the air but I was going to bring my cousin and uncle who are both new to the sport but after reading some of the posts above I'm curious if this is a good first timers game? I have the land to prep them some.

first time to a big game? or first time playing (at an organized field)?
first time playing.. probably not
first time to a big game? it depends on how mature and how big into the sport they are... if they are an adrenaline junky and don't mind ungodly amounts of paint and yelling - possibly.. There are a a lot of close quarter (10-15 feet..) fights if the attackers make it into the walls... without knowing your uncle and cousin, I would err on the side of caution and recommend you check out this game on your own. and bring them to the MXS scenario in may. and if you liked this castle, bring them to the fall one in september..
this is an event I would bring any regulars from my local field to, but not the 13 year old rookie accross the street whom I have played with 3 times...
if you still insist on bringing them, sign up to be an attacker, you'll have a little bit more breathing room and maybe the ability to handhold them, but not much.
have you ever done a big scenario game? this is a lot like the final battle of an MXS event, just with more people and less are..
don't get me wrong though, castle is definatly a must for any experienced player.. its the biggest rush you will ever get playing paintball. you all should experience it atleast once in your life.. I just don't want to scare away anyone from the sport when they think castle is a normal game, it's not.
=P
breck - February 11, 2004 12:28 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the insite.
I've done a handfull of scenarios. Infact that's all I do anymore. Now scenarios out here in California are just really taking off and the most players we've had so far is about 225. Not even close to what you East Coast guys are used too. The whole reason I want to come to Castle Quest is to get a taste of what we're shooting for out here and to see if I can learn anything to help out my buddy that's and event producer. In short, I want to be overwelmed by what I see.
My cousin and uncle on the other had haven't played on an organized field yet so it sounds like it maybe a little much. I'm thinking my Uncle will be fine due to past military experience but I'm going to try to hold off on my cousin. She's 15 and has player in one private game before. I'm going to assume that this will be out of her league.
Thanks again for the help. I don't want to go scaring off my cousin to the sport by dropping here in over her head.
EqualsP - February 11, 2004 12:41 AM (GMT)
no problem,
btw, it's Castle CONquest ;)
they will both get a kick out the memorial day MXS event ("the king returns"), take them to that.
if you've read the rules on EMR's site, this isn't your normal scenario either (I wouldn't even classify it as a scenario) you just need to get 6 items/props that are scattered around the 1acre castle.. most scenario tactics don't apply either.. it's just pure aggressive play..
=P
breck - February 11, 2004 01:16 AM (GMT)
Yah I figured out that this was more of a "Big Game" then a scenario...just can't seem to get the name right. I can't take them or go with them to the MXS scenario because I live in CA and they live in NJ.
It's no big deal in the end. I was just hoping to do something different with them and show them something big. There's a smaller scenario in North Jersey a few weeks earlier, I may shift my schedule aroud and fly out early to take them to it instead. It sounds like that will be more their speed.
breck - February 12, 2004 12:40 AM (GMT)
You know after thinking about it I may really shift my schedule around a shoot for the MXS game. Now, I've heard of MXS but I haven't made it to any of their games in Vegas yet. I've only gone to MPP and TAW games. Is MXS a decent producer? If I'm going to go to the trouble of shifting my plans I want to do it for a reason. I personally just want to have a fun time with my family and experience a truely big game. Our 250 player games out here are great but I've just heard too many good things about the East Coast scenarios.

I've been to about 7 or so MXS events and a few local scenarios and the professionalism of the MXS scenarios hasn't even come close to have been equaled yet. the EMR MXS events have only been getting larger.. I think the MXS events at EMR average between 500 and 700 people on 122 acres.
the mission structure, the reffing, the props and the rule system just make it good clean fun.
If I could, I would be an MXS groupie. and if you are going to fly out here for a paintball game, I feel you won't be disappointed if you make it an MXS event at EMR (make sure you reserve bunk space or a camping spot for FREE asap)
last year's memorial day event a busload of Texans drove up (24 hour drive?) just to attend an MXS event at EMR, if that goes to say how special these events and field are..
I can't praise them enough, but having not done many other producer's scenarios I feel anything else I say will sound biased.. (I will be doing my first Dollock event this June)
bottom line: I think it's worth your while.

I just found out there are about 80 of 250 defenders spots remaining..

Hey 10-shot, drinks are on me, I'm sure i could come up with 4 friends to help me out, BYO cup, I have several conditions for this, but we can work out the details later, :P , you know how to get in touch with me.
As far as defending the castle goes, it's tough, (I was picking pieces of shell out of my ears and belly button), unlike any scenario or big game I've ever been to before, lots of close fighting in the walls, and the odds are always against you. I'll try to sign up for defender tommorrow...
P-3 - March 22, 2004 08:07 PM (GMT)
Breck,
My first big event was a Castle and I had no problem at all.
Just have them be attackers so they can hang back if they want too.
It is not as intense on the outside as defending is.
I have only missed a few spring castles since my first one in 98.
They would have a great time I think.
The best part of EMR is the freindships that you make.
I have never been for want at EMR that includes Beer ,Food etc.
Anyways I really do think they wiold have a great time if you brought them.

See you In the walls!
CrashSTP - March 31, 2004 05:56 AM (GMT)
I'd agree with P-3 - attack and have them hang back until they build up confidence - just watch out for Blue's charges from the walls if you can push us that far back....... This castle will be truely landmark event - take a look in any forum or Pb news for the details. More vendors than most tourneys, new 3 story towers, national coverage, 25K in give aways ( 4 times what was given away at last years fall castle if you were there ) and more
P-3 - April 2, 2004 05:01 AM (GMT)
Well I am definately coming now.
Myself and a friend I have been trying to talk into coming down for years is coming also.
We will be Participating as part of the Carter Commando SVS.
We will be defending with the vectors Booming!
Look forward to seeing some of you folks again.
I will be bringing some more reindeer sausage etc.
Those who sampled last time come on by and give us a shout.
This time I am retired and my uncle sam cannot deploy me at the last minute like he has done so many times in the past.
We will be staying at the Colonial brick.
Cya There

Good to hear P-3 - the Germany gig didn't come thru?
BTW Donna ( my girlfriend ) was an AT/AE on P-3's in PC-9. she did the cali and Adak posts

Nope it just got pushed back till mar of 05.
Till then I am one of the Evil RV salesman.
I am coming into my own this last week I sold a 195,000,40,000,25,000 and 5 Pop Ups for 45,000.
Since it is over 5 units i get 25% of all the gross.Should make a great payday.
But as good as the money is I will gladly leave it when Germany happens.
I am really looking forward to the pring castle and playing as part of the SVS defenders.
