Title: KP Clone project preliminary pics...

easix6 - November 29, 2003 03:57 PM (GMT)
Got it all together this wintery morning in Western NY State. Here is the prelim pics of the KP clone project. I kept it SC, she holds 11+1 rounds, and is a side tube feed. I still have to polishe it up and work on cleaning up the solder seams a bit. Was also thinking about making up a foux barrel shroud for it... In any case, here are the "unpolished pics....

More pics to come when I have her done...this may be an ongoing project. Again, she shoots really small paint well, but I plan on honing the barrel out a bit so that she'll shoot medium stuff better. Important thing is - she works, and well with small paint.

Wait, I didn't really read your original thread... you made it yourself? Sweet looking :)

well, mr. six, i have an idea. instead of the regular pistol grip from a pgp, perhaps you could fashion a curved wooden handle (or at least grips) to give it that true sawed off look. other than that, once again a stellar job . a beauty to behold( BTW love that your going with the natural finish, not enough of that these days.)

The gun was originally a PGP2K. I did construct the barrel from scratch, and did all of the work on the receiver of the barrel from scratch with dremel, drill and files - it was very close work by the way. Everything had to be done just right or it wouldn't have worked. I also repaired the inherant flaw in the original design of the PGP2K by placing the valve tube port further back in the new barrel assembly. Took a bit of work and thinking but easily done.

The tube feed, and underslung pump guide were constructed of the same size brass as the barrel. I cut them to length, then cut them lengthwise, heated them red hot and then pounded empty 12 grams down the center of them to "expand" the tubes. I soldered them on so that the split on the pipe is not noticed without very close inspection. This gun is truly a tank now. All of the brass is very thick. As a bonus, the bottom pump guide tube also doubles as storage for 2 extra 12 grams if needed. I was going to mount a side saddle 12 gram carrier, but I am not sure if I'll do that now.

All of the solder joints are re-enforced with 1/8" bronze rod along the seam to strengthen the joint. Not needed likely, but I like to build things solid.

Trigger frame is a WGP Slider type. Triger plate and sear had to be extensively modified to work. The gun has a very nice pull now. I am very pleased with how the grip frame turned out.

Many thanks Sir. I shall certainly take your advice under consideration. I still have 2 1960's model Benjamin Air rifles (with stocks) that are a perfect fit for any sheridan gun (KP, etc.) I am having them shipped from Illinois as we speak. This particular gun was very much a "learning experiment" It is built solid, and I learned many new techniques involving soldering, airsmithing etc. with it. I plan on making a PGP2K based KP that will look very similar to the older guns - I just wanted to refine some of my skills - and discover new ones before I made the attempt. I learn more with every gun I work on. I am building a knowledge base slowly and perposefully. I don't much care about money, but it would be nice in 20 years for guys to pick up a gun that I tinkered with and say "Hey dude, this was built by Six..." May never happen, but the thought of that is nice to think of.

As to the natural finish...lol well, I don't have much choice in that... :D I haven't looked for places to do nickel, or powdercoat finishes, in truth I don't know much about that - but I learn more every day... I do love the old brass finishes on guns though. It has a certain character to it in my eyes.

Thanks for your feedback gents - I do greatly appreciate it.

hey, if your going to have a nice shiny gun on the field, it might as well be a stock class gun (shiny= more people asking questions. more people asking questions= more stock class players.)
