Title: Rumor about how long we'll last
Description: Heard it from a guy we'll be facing
rathbaster - June 9, 2003 03:09 AM (GMT)
I was playing at Camp Paintball in Kingston today and was talking to a guy with a Phantom who had an EMR tshirt. He said he was going to the castle in Sept but was going to be attacking. He mentioned that on one forum (automag? autofire? can't remeber what he said exactly), the guys there gave us 20 minutes to hold the castle. He had no opinion on the subject himself except that it would be hard to hold with pumps.
Opinions?
Burphel - June 9, 2003 07:29 AM (GMT)
To paraphrase one of my favorite mottos of all time...
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible will take about 3 hours.
B)
Maverick - June 10, 2003 12:54 AM (GMT)
Bah!! Its good they think itll be easy.. give em all something to think about when theyre making their walk of shame to the dead box and watching us lowly pump defenders clearing the field and running them back into the woods screaming for mommy.. :D
CrashSTP - June 12, 2003 12:03 AM (GMT)
I believe the record is 52 minutes for taking the castle.....
I don't see 20 minutes even in a wild fantasy - my guess the person spoutting that has never even seen the castle.
And just counting the people I know that will be defending about 40 there will be 400+ yrs of experience playing for keeps
a partial list of people I know defending

Pyrate Jim - June 12, 2003 12:27 AM (GMT)
Y'know I play open tourney with team Pump Fiction, but last weekend was a stock tourney at Strategy Plus.
I'd rather play against semi's.
For what it's worth, I've never been shot at so few times and hit so many of them.
Does that make sense?
Semi players shoot 600 balls at me in one game in tourney, and never touch me.
These guys shoot 10 balls and I'm headed for the dead box.
And at the EMR's March Meltdown, the pump players held the village center building against three teams of semi's and held for nearly three hours.
There's a good chance that we'll hold a lot longer than the attackers think.
They may be poor deluded souls, but that's not such a bad thing. B)
monkeyman - June 12, 2003 02:07 AM (GMT)
in my oppinion i think that the semi and auto cocker ilk seem to think that we pumpers are slow and ancient dinosaurs all i have to ask is can anyone else out there auto trigger?
rathbaster - June 12, 2003 02:17 AM (GMT)
Hehehe :D
I figured that'd get some response. B)
And I'm glad to hear others (with more "time in") believe as myself that experience will be more important than paint slinging. I did meet that guy and he did say that, and I replied "We'll be waving".
I'll be coming (3 years with 3months in pump, 7months by then) with Comovartia (15 years plus or minus) and Monkeyman (rabid convert to pump, very fast, getting accurate. Ow.)
I know what you mean Pyrate Jim, I was only hit a few times this weekend by the semi guys, but Comovartia with his Line Si hits me more with less paint.
And Monkeyman always hits me (once per outing) in the left kidney, right on the fat. Ouch. (He never did that before he got his Phantom.)
But others who have opinions on this keep posting, I like it, it builds confidence and camaraderie. Kinda like a slooooow pregame psyche up. Hehe. :)
amhildreth - June 12, 2003 03:57 PM (GMT)
we could always use my tactic - let 'em shoot until they run out of paint, then pick them off. Not always the most honorable way...but effective.
monkeyman - June 13, 2003 03:31 AM (GMT)
in reply to ratbasters last comment to eric i told him id send him an up close and personal message. he seemed to get a kick out of that. ;)
Hans - June 13, 2003 06:09 AM (GMT)
Lets not forget Crash that the Paintball Marshals (my normal rec-ball crew) are highly experienced castle defenders, as are the Can-Con and Wild Geese.
Typically our area of the castle is the last to fall, and thats only because the paint-flingers holding the rest of the wall have collapsed and we are hit from all sides. The simple fact is that It appears that the Pump Defense will end up not only being the largest gathering of pump players in a decade, but also a who's who of Tinkers/Techies/and a whole lot of other goodies.
Which reminds me, I need to get ahold of Blue and get the list of pre-reg's to start the planning.

10-shot kid - June 13, 2003 07:29 AM (GMT)
I wish I had pre regestered quickly. i say if I can't defend it isnt worth showing up
Maverick - June 13, 2003 12:41 PM (GMT)
Call and do it asap.. i havent heard anything about reaching the limit yet, but its got to be getting fairly close..so hurry!!

You forgot to mention he owns EMR ad probably knows it pretty well by now. ;)
Why did I have to get married in September? :( (can't stop kicking myself for missing this!)
I know it's early, but best of luck guys.
Cargo - June 13, 2003 01:24 PM (GMT)
My anniversary is 9/16 but I'll be damned if I'm going to miss this event. It's that BIG
CrashSTP - June 15, 2003 02:40 AM (GMT)
Hans - Trust me I hadn't forgotten just a tactical omission......
Finnigan - you could always make reservations for later in the month for one of those killer anniversary weekenders and tell her that was all that was available and since that's the case can you please go to EMR this weekend...... ;)
Finnigan - June 16, 2003 12:40 PM (GMT)
Pyrate Jim - June 17, 2003 12:37 AM (GMT)
Awright, I just gotta put it up here that on one of the "other" boards we've been discussing it.
One of the ladies claimed she never gave anything up in 20 minutes, and she'd be damned if the Castle would be the first!
CrashSTP - June 17, 2003 03:18 AM (GMT)
evidently she'd never met my friend "Two Fingers" tequila.................
things lookin up all the time as far as fall castle goes
BigMatt-MadCustoms - June 17, 2003 01:35 PM (GMT)
Look Ma I am famous..I made crash's list.. :)
Me and my Shop rats are sooo looking forward to this..between the 3 of us you can add another 25+ yearsof experiance to that list...

Too bad you couldn't make Twin Showers.
Jen, The lady I spoke of, and Mephistopheles were going to have a drinking contest. I had a long drive home so didn't stick around-but I know Jen was getting a head start on Meph while hanging out with Dragon(Viper Sports) and the rest of us after the game.
She came up for the stock tourney at Strat and gave me a disc of pics from the game. It included some interesting shots taken in the bunkhouse of Damage, inc.
Paintball Girls Gone Wild!
LOL---no nudie pics, but now I know where she keeps her toll money...
CrashSTP - June 19, 2003 02:18 AM (GMT)
I'd actually be interested to see exactly how much experience we'll have on the walls at the event - I'd be willing to say even at 3-1 odds our total experience will be as much or more then the attackers.
I saw somewhere else that EMR had earned the nickname -
"Endless Mud and Rain" for this year. I really tried to talk myself in to going even sick but after looking at the radar for it I just couldn't.
I will be there for Quest though
Maverick - June 19, 2003 11:42 PM (GMT)
even averaging 10 years experiece from the known "old school" list, which is probably a low number..were still lookinmg at 300+ cummulative experience from less than 1/4 of the total roster.. Its definately going be a big time learning experience for me!!
amhildreth - June 20, 2003 03:54 PM (GMT)
I think that number will blow up before we're done counting. Just between Mav and I, we have 36 years to bring to the party.
CrashSTP - June 20, 2003 04:34 PM (GMT)
add me for 18yr - 54 yrs in 3 people
Meph - June 21, 2003 03:23 PM (GMT)
Kind of odd, considering it'll take at least 10 minutes just to reach the Castle's perimiter. And that's if the initial defense outside the castle is hopped up on goofballs and don't do their job well! But even if they didn't, 10 minutes just to reach firing range of the Castle, and another 10 minutes to take it over?
It'll take longer than that for them to even get to the wall.
20 minutes is a complete dream of every attacker. But it'll just never happen.
Tyger - June 22, 2003 07:01 PM (GMT)
for the record, I *AM* a hack. :)
And I'm wiht Charley, a friend of mine who plays on the Devil Dogs out there. We can score a victory if the attackers spend 5X more on paint than we do. :pow:
I'm planning on showing up wiht my Phantom, not set up for SC. Hey, someone's gotta be the cover guy once in a while. If I can get my KP-2 to work, I'll pack that and hold it on th sling over my shoulder.
This is gonna be intresting. I think we can do it. I think we can hold 'em...
-Tyger
CrashSTP - June 23, 2003 01:08 AM (GMT)
tyger - bring it either way odds are we'll have enuff old parts and people to rebuild it from scratch. and you know I called you a hack with a warm fuzzy thought......
Tyger - June 23, 2003 06:41 AM (GMT)
See, I'd only be offended if I had any skill or talent as a writer.... :)
I'll bring hte KP too. It'll be cool. But I really, REALLY wanna shoot paint with the pumper.
-Tyger
Maverick - June 28, 2003 05:12 AM (GMT)
im going to bring two chunks of brass, and a 2x4. can somebody build me a kp2??  :D

Sure!
Umm, does anyone know the old KP "Magical Voodoo" ritual to give them more range and 100% more accuracy? I'm kinda rusty on it, and I don' tlook good in a grass skirt.... :ph43r:
-Tyger
Burphel - June 28, 2003 03:13 PM (GMT)
I'm a bit rusty as well, but I seem to remember that it involves fresh goat blood, so be sure to add a billygoat and a machete to your shopping list, Mav.
Yet another reason I'm a Phantom person. It's so nice to have your gun come straight from the factory already licked by kittens .
zerlina - July 4, 2003 03:13 AM (GMT)
greetings all from the aforementioned "paintball girl gone wild" (thanks a lot pyrate, what are you trying to do, get me a reputation? I can do that just fine on my own thank you very much) anyway, i know that jim masse and others are working on some awesome strategies for the castle. i sincerely doubt the attackers have anything like that.
oh, and crash, i believe i've met your friend "two fingers" before, we didn't get along. however, i do plan on celebrating our success at the castle afterwards with my good friend the "captain"!

No need to sacrifice animals, there will plenty of attackers to pick from to those ends.. :o
pencil - July 17, 2003 04:33 PM (GMT)
this ritual you speak of will it also work for a maverick??? It seems the marshals are getting pretty well knowen I find that once people hear they are leading us thier estimation of how long we will hold increases greatly. This will be fun.
oh one last thing for the experance count I can ad about 4 years.
Have Blue - July 25, 2003 11:45 PM (GMT)
Just two add two more to the list of people coming...
Have Blue - Air Soldier Products
Punisher - Punisher's Customs
Burphel - July 26, 2003 03:58 PM (GMT)
Pencil - No, the sacrifice of goats is only for *brass* guns. Aluminum based markers require a thorough licking by several kittens to ensure optimum accuracy, efficiency and reliability.
As for people being scared of the Marshalls, with all due respect, they ain't the only sheriff in town B)
Doododoodoloo, Wah Wah Wah...
Semi players that are familiar with the Marshalls are going to be unpleasantly suprised by the number of other pump-toting bad mofos that will be showing up for this. Make no mistake, what they don't know will hurt them.

This is a good thing.
The Marshals don't want to be the only ones out here.
There's too much to do to educate the public and the more stock/pump groups we have, the better.
So any folks coming to fall castle as a group could create their own club-design a flag and hang it on the castle walls.
One hundred battle-flags on the walls would be pretty intimidating.
Hans - July 27, 2003 02:54 AM (GMT)
Oooooh....I like that! I think I need to pass the word around on that one.
-Hans
pencil - July 28, 2003 04:19 PM (GMT)
burphel thanks for the tip as for the ritual I still need a goat for the brass guns but now I can also enhance the maverick kittens where can I get some kittens
I have a pirate flag we could fly the question is how to hang it??
Burphel - July 28, 2003 05:47 PM (GMT)
Tent pole/pvc and zip ties.
As for the kittens, you might try donating a big bag of Purina to the local animal shelter and ask a little favor B).
Or you could just pick up Phantom, they come pre-licked. Most custom airsmiths also keep some kittens handy for their aluminum projects.
