With so many reviews claiming otherwise, me and pretty much everyone who has bought the game, find the game to be amazing! Who would have known it would turn out so different than we had thought! There are two options; single player, or multi-player. Single player itself is pretty cool, but the shining jewel in this game comes in when you try Multiplayer. Multiplayer allows for a very complex system of battle reliant on both strategy, and teamwork. The only downside I can possibly think of, is the fact that multiplayer REQUIRES GBAs, rather than just making it an option. Luckily for me, both me and my sister own GBAs, so I just bought her a GC-GBA connector and we began playing. Like always; Square (as i'd rather call them) starts the game off with the credits, which had very well-done music. After the credits, you must choose your town name, your name, your race, and your family trade. The system is done quite well, really. Early on, they make sure that you understand how everything works, and in single player you have a moogle carry the chalice for you. Unlike most other Final Fantasy games, spells are not cast with mp. Rather, you can use the spell infinite times (until the level is exited) by collecting magicite. Spell fusion may produce new spells (or upgraded ones), and is very complex in itself. The system of "leveling up" your character is not really how I had thought, but it still works quite well. After beating the boss, you and the other person your playing with use points gained during the level to see who can keep an artifact (which raises stuff). Obviously, the person going first will likely choose the better artifact. Reviews saying the game lasts like 10 hours are completely wrong, as me and me sister are at the half-way point after about 12 hours.

Awesome game, I'd recommend it to anyone. If you're not sure if you would like it, at the least RENT it!

 Well I think all rent but thats it.

It may be the simple idea that it revolves around a bucket. I know I sound like a jerk for just turing a game down based on something like this, but the general public view it as a change and a odd one at that. The multiplayer also makes it hard for those who don't have the cash for that kind a thing. I agree that changes is good but sometimes it takes odd turns; "todays mighty oak is just yesterdays nut that held its ground."

With multiplayer games, you would normally want to keep all players on screen at once; and not only does the chalice do that, but it also serves as an integral part to the gameplay. In single player mode, the force-field is not a problem due to the fact that Mog keeps you within it at all times. In multiplayer, the force-field has to be used strategically, and in a way that benefits the group. For example, you may want to have someone carry it in order to attack and keep moving (attacking and dodging), or you might want to put the chalice down in order to go head to head with some enemies. Think about it, if there is deadly miasma (poison) in the very air of the area, wouldn't you need something to block the poison from affecting you? The chalice is really not a big deal, you get used to it very fast.

I agree however, that the fact that a GBA is REQUIRED for multiplayer was probably not the best implementation. The idea was to make the screen less cluttered (since menus and maps take up screen space.) It does a very effective job of that really, it's just the fact that you HAVE to have it that bothers me.

Overall though, i'd give this game at least a 9/10. B)

 It just sounds like a pack mule idea really, I haven't heard much on the story but what I have is saying its pretty loose, even for a action rpg, care to elaborate.
Sorry if I'm sounding like a jerk, its just the things I have read are a little... pecemistic about the game. Just want all the facts really.

Apocalypse - February 17, 2004 11:49 PM (GMT)
Honestly, I can understand your reaction to all of those crazy pessimistic views of this game... even I had second thoughts about getting this game. In the game, you live in a village suported merely by a crystal, however; the crystal must be powered in order to maintain its protective aura. What powers these crystals are droplets of a type of water called Myrhh. Unfortunately for the people, Myrhh is often guarded by monsters (monsters and even moogles, are immune to miasma.)

To obtain myrhh and allow life in the town/city to exist, each town/city forms a "Crystal Carravan". To support the Crystal Caravann in their dangerous journey into the miasma, the caravann MUST carry a small crystal with them, which is actually built into the Chalice. The story is really not THAT loose, it is just the fact that the main catch of the game is its own gameplay. The story is actually quite deep in some parts... and the diary, messages from the family, and the prelude to each level shows the emotions of the characters. As for the characters however, I find it more as YOU have to make the personality of your character, not the game for you. It works quite well, really.

In the game however, you will only see the caravann itself either on the map, or in a cut-scene. Inside of any actual level you will be running along dangerous paths with monsters always near. Monsters tend to not actually search for you, but rather to stay together and attack in their small groups. May I also mention, the AI for the monsters (though a little slow in the beginning) is very good. I don't see why so many reviews wrote as though carrying the chalice was carrying the weight of the world on your back. It really is not a big deal. The field given by the chalice covers roughly 80% of the screen, and unless your some idiot truly trying to run out and kill yourself, you will not have much trouble in multiplayer with the chalice. In single player, a moogle carries the chalice for you. The moogle (named mog : FF3) carries it for you, almost always keeping you within the center of the crystal's aura. I actually like how the crystal chalice is incorparated into the game.

If you're still unsure about the game ('cause i suppose it may or may not be your sorta thing), I recommend you at least rent the game. It is definentally a great party game, if you happen to know many people with GBAs, and is also definentally a great single player game. B)

Knives101 - February 18, 2004 02:21 AM (GMT)
All rent it, but I'm not making any promises.
And thanks for all the info. ;)

Apocalypse - February 18, 2004 03:16 AM (GMT)
No problem, if you have any other questions about the game, feel free to ask. ;)

ant1s0c13ty - February 19, 2004 03:27 AM (GMT)
i acctually thought that the game sounded like it would be alot of fun with four people, but i dont know four people each with a gameboy advance and game cube connector thingy :(

Apocalypse - February 20, 2004 01:22 AM (GMT)
The game is a GREAT, AWESOME, FANTASTIC multiplayer game. The only problem is that it REQUIRES each player to have a GBA and connector. Single player is great, but you may want to reconsider getting it if you just plan to play one player. Unfortunately, this is the games single worst downfall.

Even so, you should still rent it to see how one player is. One player is still very cool, but is not quite as great as Multiplayer. Anyway, have fun; and feel free to ask any questions concerning the game. B)

I agree with Apocalypse on everything......FF:CC ownz...

OMG DROPPING TEH CHALISE IS TEH FUNNEY! ^_^

Sorry.
I really am.

I like the game though. But there's one thing that kinda freaks me out.
If you're a female Seklie (as I am), and you're in the "Set Out" menu...
Well, keep highlighting then.. un-highlighting your character. You know, not hitting A and B repeatedly, but using your directional buttons to put your cursor over the character and off of it repeatedly.

If you do it rigiht, THE SELKIE DOES A BAYWATCH-ESQUE JIGGLE!
The story behind it: I was getting impatient with one of my friends and her dumb uncharged gameboy so i was just scrolling around to pass the time. And yeah. She jiggles.
And she looks like she's 9.

This attention to detail really disgusted me. Everyone else got a laugh though. I guess I laughed too.

Yea, I had heard of the rumor... I never really tried that. Perhaps I will...
...Then again, maybe not; all of the characters are kid-like, that just wouldn't be right  .

I don't understand what you mean by the lack of attention to detail. I mean... the game is very detailed, the graphics are incredible. If you truly think the graphics are bad, I suggest you checking your vision; or at least using a different tv.

John - February 25, 2004 12:16 AM (GMT)
Re-read my post. I just said the attention to detail (the jiggle) is disgusting. As in "Wow, there was actually effort put into that detail". Not "the detail is so bad, it makes the Luftwaffe look like rose petals falling from the sky!".

Apocalypse - February 25, 2004 11:27 PM (GMT)
oh.... you mean the detail is a little... TOO GOOD. :D

Well... I suppose it is, but (besides that particular case) that is not particularly a bad thing. ;)

Man that game sounds like it rocks. Unfortinatly, i don't own a gamecube. In fact i down any modern console. (which sucks)

Emanuel - March 22, 2004 01:17 AM (GMT)
Bought a week ago and it's awesome, but I really want to play it with a friend so ill see if I can buy the connectors.

John - March 22, 2004 06:37 AM (GMT)
I really like the dual/triple/quad techs in the game.
I thought it was really well done since it promotes teamwork.

Mooglepockets.

Yes... the multiplayer is truly the best aspect of the game; though single player does have its good points as well. Multiplayer gives you access to more attacks... though it is usually quite difficult to implement them... plus; screaming at your friends "Revive me NOW!, No you moron HEAL me!, Why wont Blizzaga work?" is quite fun.

Buying the cables is definentally worth it if you already have two (or more) gameboys.

Noah's Lute. (better item)
