Here's something I did in my free time in Modeling class:

It's supposed to be loosely based on the hardedge from ff7, as you can tell its still a bit WIPpy. The Japanese symbols aren't done (they mean nothing BTW :)) and the shader bump for the blade still needs some work.
Suggestions welcome.

Cool cool, although, If you are using 3DS Max...here is what you do.
Push "M" on your keyboard which will bring up the material editor.
Once in there, Click "Architecual"
After which, click the Drop Down menu, and look for "Metal"
Then, select the blade in the 3D Field
After which, drag and drop the texture onto the blade.
Once you do that, you will have a nice shiny surface.
Also, you might need to toss in some Global Illumination, and Sphearical Harmonics for it to be realistic...
much easyer way than that is to bring up the materials menu, find a new (or existing) material that you want a metallic look for. give it a specular value of abour 380. and a glossiness level of around 15.
Its not much easier...just a little :P
But you win...I aint an expert at 3D Modeling, im only good enough to do Items and stuff (Desk, Chairs, Lamps, Swords...whatever)
