Title: Characters: Realistic Anime or Deformed Anime?

Rorae - January 20, 2004 02:33 AM (GMT)
Thats a big ? mark on the project, i think its a good iniciative to know what people want for this part.
A remake like this has to gain its own style without losing the touch and feel of the original game. And thats where the crossroad appears, should the game have a fairly realistic style, staying somewhat loyal to the current Square? or a 3d Akira'like style like the original Chrono Trigger?

Personally i tend to choose the realistic style, i think it would be the best look for a remake.
Maybe its just me, but i really cant imagine a chrono remake to be a 3d "dragonball'ish" styled game

What do you think?

Yours truly,
The Nearly Invisible One :ph43r:

Hi! Today we will take a poll that might change how we handle the textures and some models in the game! The last decision is from the Team, but we all want to know your opinion.
Myself i'm devided, i want the character style like FFX, but in the other hand i want like the original.

What's your opinion?
Choose one and discuss!

Oh, by the way, don't choose too many "Qué" or "No comments..." those are a little inconclusive to us :P ;)

chrono-addict - January 20, 2004 02:20 AM (GMT)
I think realistic would be good, but i dont really know..

Jack - January 20, 2004 03:33 AM (GMT)
Defentally FFX style. I think that should be a goal for us.

Oh, and may I ask what your desplay picture is of....

Apocalypse - January 20, 2004 10:31 PM (GMT)
Realistically, definentally. Deformed wouldn't really work because then the changes you made to the game in the remake wouldn't seem so unique. Though... deformed probably would be easier to make...

Most of the stuff you've made is realistic already. There'd be no point in turning back now. And I like how you're models look... so I vote realistic. B)

Samurai Milo - January 26, 2004 12:36 PM (GMT)
I agree that realistic would look best, but I voted deformed... Just because I can... Mwahahahahahaha!!! ...Eh, yeah... Besides, I like deformed to a certain extent, probably because some of my favorite things are Dragonball, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Bros, Azure Dreams, and other such like games. I even draw my characters in that style and find it increasingly difficult to imagen some original characters of mine or my friends as realistic instead of almost even chibi... This can be annoying at times. Must be the tiny sprite we used, though. Maybe if I try drawing the character? Oh well. Speaking of Final Fantasy, I never played one though I consider FF7 as one of the best in the series, although I did play Kingdom Hearts, but my friends tell me that it does no justice to such characters like Wakka, for example. Several of my friends owns FFX, but the graphics are so realistic that I actually didn't care to play, almost feeling as if the game's tone and story were too realistic as well. Hmm... But I digress. I'll play the Chrono Trigger remake just because it's Chrono Trigger! And it has Frog in it (mwahahaha)... But I do see more of a realistic view than deformed when it comes to CT. Go for it (my vote still stays with deformed, but I don't think you'll have much trouble deciding where this project should go). Sayonara! :ph43r:

P.S. - What 3D game making program is being used to make the game? How can I get my hands on it (if it is free or real cheap...)? (I paid 70 dollars on Ray Dream 3D and never figured it out... Maybe someday I'll figure it out... someday.) Thanks!

If you ask me:
Let it be like it was made: SD!!!
Loks best for this sort of game, I think...

Knives101 - February 11, 2004 05:18 AM (GMT)
I'm not going to say deformed is dead, cause there are still games that come out deformed.... I mean in deformed animation, that are good, but its just been to long, and Chrono of the New Millenium needs a make over of sorts, I think a realistic anime style would be perfect.

CritikalX - February 14, 2004 10:31 PM (GMT)
i voted realistic, well because, all of those games were bomb looking lol

Validus - February 27, 2004 09:21 PM (GMT)
I think realistic would give the game a good atmosphere, but I think deformed could look good also! hehe I can't make up my mind. But I voted for realistic.

SuperDK - March 6, 2004 12:33 PM (GMT)
Although It'd take probably two times longer, maybe there should be like an option for SuperDeformed and Realistic. I would love to see the CT characters in both formats.

Validus - March 6, 2004 05:23 PM (GMT)
Maybe like a secret mode where you could play the game with the characters in a different format or style. Like you have to earn it. Kind of like "new game+"? (although, you are right. That would be a lot of work.)

WolfPack - March 20, 2004 07:09 AM (GMT)
We're in the age of Realism now, deformed wasn't ment to be really deformed when it came out, it was just the best they had. I like the modern anime, still anime but with a greater new look. Kinda like the clips in the ps1 re- relase of CT

Chosker - March 20, 2004 05:34 PM (GMT)
I'd love to see CT characters in FFX style, that'd be awesome (and challenging to the artists too)

WolfPack - March 20, 2004 08:37 PM (GMT)
No kidding. I think the time would be worth it tho.

Chosker - March 23, 2004 05:12 AM (GMT)
to add to the discussion, I've made my own realistic-anime-style Crono, here's the thread:

WolfPack - March 23, 2004 08:56 PM (GMT)
Ya the links are dead.

GalaxyFalcon - March 23, 2004 09:12 PM (GMT)
I think the realisitc anime will be better. Just my 2c :P

WolfPack - March 27, 2004 10:51 PM (GMT)
Deformed maps like how it is in CT and CC, but more realistic people.

wreslur - May 26, 2004 12:39 AM (GMT)
well even though I'm not part of the team (but I want to as a movie/cutscene/ending maker) I think we really musnt have to go down any path, we should do what we do best and if its realistic we probably should, we may not finish but if we do remember this is your guys game your bringing it to the people and you are some of the people your bringing it too, It's like a recording artist Play the music you like to hear and others will want to hear because your being honest about it.

SSJoseph - May 26, 2004 12:59 AM (GMT)
realitik..YAH!

ph33r my ha><0rm4573r skillz

Knives - May 26, 2004 06:06 PM (GMT)
Since Validus is doing most of our art, I'm thinking that the new look will probably take on his awesome style. I would personally like that very much.

Chosker - May 27, 2004 06:12 PM (GMT)
well if you liked my model I can donate it, but I guess you don't since no one has asked me anything about it

CripSam - May 30, 2004 04:03 PM (GMT)
Maybe we can have deformed on the world map, and realistic in towns and battle and everything.

Vash72 - May 30, 2004 05:50 PM (GMT)
I voted for creating more realistic anime-like characters. Just like Knives I agree that if the characters can be made to look like Validus's concept artwork the would look very good indeed. I believe that a realistic vision would look best but this does not mean it can not be influenced by the deformed character snes artwork. Validus sketches I believe give the best of both worlds.

Cheers,

Vash
