Title: Wasting Talent / Post CT:RP
Description: What next?
Crash Man - January 4, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
Yes, this thread has to do with Square shutting down CT:RT. And yes, I've already read the FAQ on this.
My question here is basically, what next?
I honestly think the chances of you guys finishing CT:RT is extremely slim. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to discourage you, and I'll support you all the way, but do you seriously think it's gonna happen? You say you'll stop if Square asks you to stop...but the likelyhood of them asking you to stop is very very high. They already shut down CT:R without hesitation. Also, you say that CT:RT will be free? That's only gonna raise the chances of Square stopping you guys. I mean, yeah it'd be bad if you charged money for it, cause it's Square's original work, and you're making money off something based on copyrighted material, of course. But it's a lose lose situation, think about it, now you're not making money off their game, you're making copies of it.
You guys seem very talented and ambitious for game-creation, and it'd really suck if you ended up wasting your talents here. So what next? If you finish it, or if it gets shut down, what are your plans for a next project?
TheBrain - January 4, 2005 09:42 PM (GMT)
We're not wasting our talents since we're getting fun doing this, and we're in fact building our experience by working on this project.
On a next project, we have some ideas but nothing very solid.
Btw, it's CTRP not CT:RT.

I've tried to tell other nay sayers *cough*LegendaryFrog*cough*, but they just don't seem to understand.

Keep going guys! Square will realize sooner or later that Chrono Trigger was one of their best games and they will eventually want to remake it just like they did to it recently. But they will up it a bit more instead of just adding anime shorts to it. It may be a long while before they do it but eventually it will happen. I just think it's awesome to see the Chrono Trigger world in 3D. I can't wait for a demo of this stuff. Keep up the awesome work! It's highly anticipated to me :)

What do u mean by when u said they will eventually want to remake it just like they did to it recently? another game? or are you talking about CC? and what this about anime shorts?
Moogle Man - January 8, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
Chrono Trigger was re-released on the PSX complete with huge load times and anime cut scenes
WolfPack - January 8, 2005 06:39 AM (GMT)
Huge load times is a understatement. On you guys next project, you should try SD3 :D
relmatos - January 8, 2005 11:30 AM (GMT)
You guys should do a remake on one of the Pokemon games :D
Sir_Crono531 - January 8, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
SD3? wats that? and umm i think they did do a remake of pokemon.....its called pokemon stadium...lol which sucked big testacles lol
Galidan - January 8, 2005 07:49 PM (GMT)
I believe that SD3 stands for Seiken Densetsu 3, which is part of the Secret of Mana series. It was never released in the US, but there is a translated ROM available on the web.

Alezunde - January 8, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
Lol. Unless we become some sort of official paid development team, I don't think we'll be doing any remakes beyond Chrono Trigger.
It's a lot of hard work!

No, I mean with going around the map trying to catch all the pokemons, walking on grass and stuff
Sir_Crono531 - January 9, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
hmm, i guess that would be cool, but of all the great games out there, pokemon?
Roflcopter - January 9, 2005 04:38 PM (GMT)
That would b soooOOOOoooo GREAT!
i love pokemon! i wish u guys would do a pokemon remake!
ive been collecting everything i could of pokemon, their the best, not like those digimon ones...
could you guys pleaaase pleaaase make a pokemon remake
it would be such a great present for my 10th anniversary!
Almighty_Gir - January 9, 2005 07:25 PM (GMT)
theres already a pokemon remake called pokemod, was for hl1 but they switched to the hl2 engine...
hmmm if i was gonna remake any game itd have to be FF7 :o
BrownMan - January 9, 2005 07:27 PM (GMT)
The PSX version ticked me off. I mean...LOADING??? jeez.
but the fmvs were pretty good.
orange_luster - January 9, 2005 08:55 PM (GMT)
Why doesn't anyone make Radical Dreamers. i'd play it...of course i'd also make it but, got no engine myself
Marcel - January 10, 2005 11:31 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... FF7 already was in 3D, and remaking all of the fmv's seems like a lot of difficult and pointless work to me. If there WOULD be another remake, my vote would go to SD3, that game is really excellent!
... and most of all it's NOT #$% POKEMON!!

I'd highly doubt it'd be shutting down since they don't plan on profiting. But if SE wanted them to shut down, they shut down. But the team is getting the chance to use their skills for fun, so it's all gravy!
I sounded like an idiot saying gravy...
GRAVY!

No one makes it because.....hmm...maybe its already made? something called chrono cross, same game different console, different gameplay different name, and well mostly different everything except the storyline, so yea theres your remake of radical dreamers........i think lol

basically yeh FF7 was on a 3d engine... but it was one that sucked huge monkey balls that had been stuffed in crocodile ass for a while...
so yes id like to remake it on a fuller engine :P
Soul Eater - January 11, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
Hmm FF7 would be a choice I understand, it was one of my favorite of the FF series... But it's already in pertty nice 3D in the CG and the battles... the only drawback I see in that game (not at the time) is the ingame graphics when you walk around the world map. Cloud consisted of around 12-15 blocks of cubes and stuff, that could be improved and... the summons looked horrible (except the bahamuts), but since that was already in 3D it might be harder to "out do" them  just a thought.

...yeah good point, maybe i'm the only one that wants to fight a giant sunflower Kid monster ;)
Creiz - February 5, 2005 06:05 AM (GMT)
umm, its because crhono cross is a SEQUEL to radical dreamers wich in fact is THE sequel to Chrono Trigger. CC is NOT after CT. CC is after RD that is after CC.
Radical Dreamer wasnt even a game that we all could call game, it was released as a novel on some satelite super nintedo expansion only in japan. I think there is a ROM out there, complete with translated text. unfortunately, i have other things to do to fire up my emulator and read TEXT so i didnt read ALL of the story.
In Chrono Cross they DO have some lines from RD, because the story would be too complex for us western gamers who never had the chance to read Radical Dreamers.
and oh, why a remake of FF7??? I think FF6 would be better, since it has a OUTSTANDING story line, and its 2D, just like CT. well it would be more challenging, IMHO.
I see people tend to forget the classics
