Title: News: Today it's a bad Chrono day...

TheBrain - September 7, 2004 02:23 AM (GMT)
It is with my deepest regards that I inform our community that CT:Resurrection got a C&D written letter from a lawyer at Square Enix Co., Ltd.

You can see the amazing work they already had before they got the axe...
Chrono Trigger: Resurrection

I'm speechless, I sincerely don't know why Square Enix Co., Ltd. keeps to put down the Chrono franchise fans with false hopes... They clearly, with the new management, aren't interested in continuing the Chrono franchise any longer (at least now) and the only reason that I can think for they do this to CT:R is that they don't want to have multiple remakes of their other (saturated) franchises, like FF and KH.

Therefore I have to announce that CT:RP will have a meeting to discuss the future of our project, if the amazing Demo of CT:R got axed I'm sure that CT:RP is next on the list if it gets to SE ears...

I close this sad announcement with the following quote:
"But.. the future refused to change."...

Galidan - September 7, 2004 04:10 AM (GMT)
So much for my respect for Square. Damn it. No. No. No. I was looking forward to this so much. It's like a friend on mine died.

Here is what I have been thinking all day, SQUARE ENIX SUCKS!!!! If anyone has any ideas for preventing anymore shut downs please say somthing. I am an avid player of the series and i just got started playing again. I wanted to catch up on my Chrono knowledge so I decided I would play through both games from start to finish so I could refresh my memory, also in anticipation of the ressurection release. And i was shocked to find they shut it down. I cannot see what the ressurection crew did that would allow Square Enix to close them down. If someone knows can you please tell me what happened because I would really like to know. All that is left to say is the people who worked on the Ressurection project were very good and there project will be missed dearly

Chuckles - September 7, 2004 05:38 AM (GMT)
They had every legal right to shut them down, but that still doesn't make it ethical...

 I'm not sure I'd worry about the ctrp project as much since its a mod, and not a promotional like CT:R was. It is amazing what they did with the game of course and I would have loved to see its full completion, but their project was as different in reason, as it was the same game. What I mean is that they were making the game from the ground up, where as you are doing a mod using the engine and free edit system of unreal, they can't shut you down without getting introuble with the unreal creators Id software(they were the unreal creators right).

This may sound shallow, but the plus side of CT;r getting shut down just shows that Square enix is paying attention to the Ct series, and this may cause them to notice that it has a lot bigger fan base then they originaly thought.... don't hurt me :ph43r:

DarkJedi - September 7, 2004 08:03 PM (GMT)
This truly is a horrible disappointment. The project was well underway and was looking fantastic, and I was really looking forward to playing it. If Square/Enix isn't doing anything with the license, CT fans should be able to pick up the burden. This really is unfair to both the development team and the gamer community. I really wish that some form of this project can see the light of day at some point in the future.

TheBrain - September 7, 2004 08:52 PM (GMT)
In the end the loss is only for fans, that won't have any Chrono game...

Galidan - September 7, 2004 09:03 PM (GMT)
What really ticks me off about this is that SE knew about this for many months and decided to tell them stop only shortly before the project came to fruition. It seems particularly nasty that they would let them invest so much time into something they love before taking it away from them.

SuperDK - September 7, 2004 11:19 PM (GMT)
Oh my...I can't believe Squenix did this...

I still don't understand why Squenix would do this after all that time. Such a waste...

Hopefully, it will somehow leak somewhere, so everyone can enjoy revamped scenes of CT!

BrownMan - September 7, 2004 11:36 PM (GMT)
if you feel bad about this do something about it.
Sign The Petition

Chuckles - September 7, 2004 11:47 PM (GMT)
Grammatical errors, plus the fact that it wouldn't work anyways, means that thing will never go through....

TheBrain - September 8, 2004 12:45 AM (GMT)
Online petitions aren't taken seriously.

The only way they could even consider, is if it was 5000+ real signatures, and a writen letter in japanese, all mailed to Square Enix Co., Ltd. HQ in Japan...
The letter would have to be extremly polite and while thinking of the fans it would need to have a reasonable request...

Knives101 - September 8, 2004 03:17 AM (GMT)
 Even then they'ed probably just pass it off, CORPRATE PRICKS.... We should find squarenix usa and have a picket infront of their building... ha... still wouldn't take us seriouly though. <_<

Trigun - September 8, 2004 04:20 AM (GMT)
JESUS, we gotta do sumthin so we dont get axed...
Brain wanna start a pettition.. i mean we have to do something!
i spent bout 150 bucks buying DVD drive and a copy of UT2004 with those guide
things so i could finaly get in the team. Im am official SPAMing pissed off
cheers Trigun

Darkdragon1030 - September 8, 2004 06:20 AM (GMT)
dam the trailer for ct:resurrection looks so cool, i cant believe square-enix did this

Lucid - September 8, 2004 06:53 AM (GMT)
Whatever you guys do, don't stop.

Work on it in secret if you have to. I'm pretty sure that there's nothing illegal about a fan-game, which is exactly what you are making.

Do not stop the project.

Do not stop it.

We need more chrono.

Their work was simly amazing... I was not expecting to be blown away by that trailer, but I was. I'm going to be honest; if they would've remade the ENTIRE game like they did that trailer, it would've been 5 times better than the original Chrono Trigger.

You guys are our only hope. Do not stop the project.
If Square-Enix tries to stop you, then it better be because they are going to release a similar game, or a new Chrono game. Otherwise, they're going too far.

DON'T STOP THE PROJECT.

Knives101 - September 8, 2004 12:12 PM (GMT)
 You guys are jumping to conclusions this doesn't meen ctrp will get shut down. The projects were completely different, other than its the same game I mean, everything else about ctr was different than ctrp.

Chosker - September 8, 2004 02:29 PM (GMT)
main differences: Chrono Resurrection was a game, and CTRP is a mod, CR was meant to be small, CTRP is meant to cover the whole game

if Squarenix tries to shut CTRP down I'd suggest changing the names of everything and the colors and all like that, use names like Cranno or Merla or whatever, there's nothing illegal with that (heck, Konami has been using names like "Ronarid" for their soccer games until last year and it's all been perfectly legal)
then make all the names scriptable and get someone release an unofficial patch with the correct names (which has happened with Konami's soccer games too)

Maginus - September 8, 2004 02:54 PM (GMT)
u know i have the urge to bitch somone out about this... i dont understand what possessed them that it was a threat to them... now if they were to take that work and make into a new remake by SE then that would be a lil bit better, somewhat more reasonable IMO. oh well nothing much more i can do is rant to multiple CSR's of SE. welp off to have fun, when their live chat opens hehe.

Crono007 - September 8, 2004 03:13 PM (GMT)
Ok, SE is a load of bull, they shut down a project they didnt even have the balls to undertake themselves...Whatever you do, finish this project, please i love CT, its the best and to see 2 CT projects die...i will commit suicide, well mabie not, but Keep this going! you set it as a 2005 release, thats only a litte ways off, and you guys have done an outstanding job.

Best of luck to ye...

"But...The future refused to Change..." :(

Maginus - September 8, 2004 03:50 PM (GMT)
i love getting so many answers from CSR's.... (mainly the ones of i cant help you or i dont know ect.)its pretty bad when u cant even get an email adress to ask the question that they themselves cannot answer. but to the hell with them, im getting my answer!

BrownMan - September 8, 2004 04:27 PM (GMT)
i dont think this one will be able to be shut down. a few reasons because ct ressurections makers had their resumes up and their full names, so it was really easy for squar-enix to track them down. Stupid square enix shutting down Chrono Trigger R. Im going to post something about this at GMR magazine  hopefully GMR shows a lot of people the stuff and more people sign the petition. I mean, in 2 days its 50 ppl

Knives - September 8, 2004 07:37 PM (GMT)
That's really horrible. One guy even said he won't invest another dollar in a SquareEnix product...I'm thinking he has the right idea.

WeretigerRei - September 8, 2004 08:34 PM (GMT)
Quite a few mods that are fan based have put up disclaimers citing code 431.322.12 of the Internet Privacy Act forbidding the original creators from even entering the mod's website as seen in these two links.

http://www.dragonmodz.org/
http://www.ffmod.flagrun.net/

Im guessing the mod makers are having to do what they have to to legally protect thier mods.

johngamer - September 8, 2004 08:43 PM (GMT)
Boycott Square-Enix.

No, really.

Maginus - September 8, 2004 10:22 PM (GMT)
i agree with john, i have what they have become. Its totally rediculous. *wishes Square were like they used to be back ni the good SNES-before days* *sigh* oh well

oh and about those disclamers... what happens if they decide to enter those sites(didnt happen to notice that if it was there)

BrownMan - September 8, 2004 10:57 PM (GMT)
they cant do anything if they enter. Hurry, brain post that on your site

Snowy - September 9, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)

How sad :(
I knew about this news as soon as i heard it on my forums 2 days ago...

Oh, the good news..the leader of UCT2 wants to do A merger witht them :)
Looks like we still have a chance at there Chrono Trigger...

Oh also, the stuff they have on UCT2 is 100% out of date, the engine there making is now a 100% 3d engine, not a cartoony one.

The leader told me it was somthing along the lines of Final Fantasy X
And the story is very akward...lets just say can you imaging a very bloody, gorish version of chrono trigger.

In the first scene of 600 A.D. an imp rips out a guards jugular...lol, I know all this cuz I have to model the beast ;)

So, lets say Doom 3, meets Chrono Trigger o.O

ok, SSJ out

Anime_Rachiru - September 9, 2004 07:36 PM (GMT)
 Ok.... Every last shread of respect I had for Square is now ripped to peices. I wish I could do something about it... I mean, these projects only plan to make these things right? It's not like they are going to sell those versions of the games unless they got squares permission, so why are they denying us the right to at least make them... I really wanted to see them completed.....

Knives - September 9, 2004 08:17 PM (GMT)
I just watched their trailer...and now I am even more angry at SquareEnix. Those animations were absolutely jaw dropping, and the way the camera panned through the clouds was simply beautiful. Luminaire looked pretty freaking amazing too.

DragonTycoon - September 10, 2004 10:03 PM (GMT)
Is it just me, or did Square go down the tubes - and by this I mean piss all over Chrono Trigger, make an MMORPG just for the money, and make a SEQUEL to a Final Fantasy game - when they merged with Enix? I mean, back on the SNES the were friends with everyone (Mario RPG is still one of my favorite games), but now if you arent Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy they don't seem to know you're there?

they don't know you're there, that is, until some shred of hope of you coming back comes. then they destroy it.

I don't know who to hate anymore - Square for creating such a great game and then killing it, or Enix for mysteriously bringing about Square's dark ages?

johngamer - September 10, 2004 10:45 PM (GMT)
And the sad part about all of that is that Square is more popular than it has ever been. As long as it can keep making money off of remakes and inferior FF sequels, Square isn't going to pay attention to the fans that have been with them since before they were "huge."

tssf - September 11, 2004 12:04 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately that Internet Privacy Act thing won't do anything.

This is the proof: http://www.lpconline.com/internet_privacy_act.html

Anyway, thank you to the C-T team for e-mailing me on their condolences for this project. I've never heard of Square issuing CADs much like this.. but what can I say, that must have meant they were really threatened by our project. That can be a good or a bad thing.

I really don't know what we're going to do, I'm pushing Nathan to fight it... it's all we can do.

Maginus - September 11, 2004 12:08 AM (GMT)
Id say go for it, but im not sure how far you can get with it.

WeretigerRei - September 11, 2004 07:38 AM (GMT)
So far their are few options that I see

You can send a responce to Square Enix asking them the reason for shutting down the project and asking them to rethink thier decision, but I doubt that will go anywhere.

If you chose to fight it, there is the possibility that if you get sued you may complete the project before the court date if you work extremely hard. But then their is the financial ruin that will insue in the aftermath. Then theres the fact that a rushed project might not turn out looking its best.

Lastly, while I would object to this, perhaps Square could "aquire" the work that has been done so far on the project and complete it and sell it.

Gopher - September 11, 2004 09:00 AM (GMT)
Somehow, i'm surprised that this happened - I seem to remember ID doing something very similar to a Quake Generations mod a while ago, and probably countless other examples along the wayside too. Corporations ruled by lawyers tend to have an iron fist about such things.

My last sentiments echo WeretigerRei. If they were to take it on, pay the users (hell, they probably don't have to) and take it under their wing, that would be good compensation, though I can't see it happening. Damned bastards.

Thanks tssf for the confirmation info, the team discussed that disclaimer before and we realised that the law would probably not exist. Besides it would make the site look like it's hosting much much worser Illegal acts instead of a simply CT tribute fan game...

Keep us posted on news about CT:R now that the official site has the static disclaimer, if our team can do anything to help yours just contact one of us, we would be happy to try to help you or your team on anything you want.

Knives101 - September 11, 2004 08:39 PM (GMT)
 I feel for ya Tssf, this sucks big time man...

And unfortunatly I don't think SE would aquire the project because it would be a expense they don't need. I agree with johngamer, they are doing well, even though they've sold out.
