Title: Deformed Maps or Huge Realistic Maps?

TheBrain - August 26, 2003 06:26 PM (GMT)
Since UT2k3 is unable to load maps like Morrowind I have to come up with new ideas. Would you mind to play in a Deformed-Style map like in the original Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and FFIX? Or do you want the map more like Morrowind? Please post your opinion.

If there is a way for you to get it like the original map style that they use in CT it
would probably be prefered.

That is my oppinion :D

Emanuel - September 14, 2003 04:27 PM (GMT)
that's a hard question ill have to think

Nickdude - September 30, 2003 01:13 AM (GMT)
I like the original Chrono Trigger look, it has that RPGish small map feel to it...

ChronoTrigger - October 1, 2003 10:21 PM (GMT)
We should use the deformed one, we should make it just like Chrono Trigger.

bounty hunter - October 4, 2003 06:11 PM (GMT)
i agree that the old CT feel is still great, but if you guys are doing a "remake" project, i think you should present all the beauty of the old game in a new way...

that's just my opinion...

chrono-addict - October 4, 2003 06:58 PM (GMT)
I think it should be like the CT one, I dont think you should change it at all, just preserve this one bit :) , altho it could be bad to leave chronos 3D house to get to a map like that... I dunno..

Jack - October 8, 2003 02:23 AM (GMT)
Well, I was thinking maps like Zelda 64 and Kingdom hearts, thats deformed I think, they are't realistic. I just hope that they will be in the normal 3d view, not a strange pulled back RPG view.

I was also thinking, there could be arenas for each time, like a big dome arena for 2300 where once character goes into a arena and is attacked by robots, and finnaly a boss, evary round he wins he gets a prize. I don't know I was just thinking again. Also, Brain I was thinking we could do 3 maps for johnny and have online races, with diffrent cars.

Also (lol) For the race, since it will be very high speed, would it be possable to make the car small and the whole place small, so it loads faster and the race be really fast, without unessery detail. Don't know, IM really tired, I need to go to bed heh.

Man, I think this is going to be awesome! I love Chrono Trigger and im looking very forward to seeing everything you guys are doing. I suck at modeling or drawing, and i dont know any coding, but ill be here checkin and givin ideas if i ever get any....

Alezunde - March 7, 2004 02:13 AM (GMT)
I say keep that Chrono Trigger style. ;)
Give everything a nice Chrono Trigger stylized look. :)

Knives101 - March 7, 2004 01:50 PM (GMT)
 I liked the deformend style, but I think it needs a artistic up grade, similar to Chrono Crosses. FF9 was my fav ff game but I didn't like the map fog.

phlegm - March 7, 2004 06:41 PM (GMT)
i think maybe it'd be a good idea to go with a sort of ff7 style- with the towns in 3d, but once you leave, you'll come back to the world map. and i guess the world map.. well, has anyone ever played "black and white?" it's got a pretty decent 3d world view thingy goin' on.

Gr33n - March 12, 2004 12:25 AM (GMT)
I agree with knives101 the new chrono trigger map should resemble the original but should be drawn smoother and more detailed

WolfPack - March 20, 2004 08:51 PM (GMT)
Yes, I agree, it should be the derformed. Just the way Chrono Cross updated Chrono Trigger, you should do the same. Also like phlegm said, it could also go like ff7 which was a interesting set up. Or like ff9 as knives said (only without the fog.).

GalaxyFalcon - March 23, 2004 09:20 PM (GMT)
I think a Chrono Cross map, only a little bit more, um, elevated view would be the best. i didn't likle FFIX, your to close to the charecter. a view more like CT, but with graphically enahnced features, like Chrono Cross, would be preferable in my opinion.

WolfPack - March 27, 2004 10:53 PM (GMT)
True. We want to keep it in the Chrono Style world. So a map like CT beefed up like CC would be fine.

Knives - March 31, 2004 12:45 AM (GMT)
Actually the new version of the Unreal Engine (included in 2004) is basically the same, but it has the ability to load much larger maps. Just a thought.

shudmeyer - April 7, 2004 03:24 AM (GMT)
yeah i played a demo of UT2K4. those maps are HUGE! like the one level i played for about 5 minutes was these 2 hover trains and you had to jump between them. thing is, you could go inside the trains and it was like a whole different level! so it was really like...3 levels. ka-ray-zee.

Magus008 - April 13, 2004 12:10 AM (GMT)
I never played CC, unfortunately, so I don't know what that is all about - but I do know about FF7's style on the main map - and I've loved that the most out of any RPG I've played (other than MW, which is just awesome as well but WAY too much work).

Perhaps the detail could be a small amount lower for the main map, and you could walk around 3rd person style like FF7...? Oh well, that's my input.

(edit)
Oh, yeah, I have UT2k4 (pre-ordered, thank you very much! haha), and oh my GOD one of the maps (in onslaught mode) is about 8-10 times the size (literally!) the size of that Nuclear Train Assault map you were playing.

Definitely. The new UT should fix most problems with larger maps. But...the one problem is actual time spent on the main map could really be problematic for getting things done. Keep in mind you are redoing a whole GAME, here...I'd prefer that it came out sometime in the next century...

WolfPack - May 8, 2004 09:32 PM (GMT)
Lol. I know were doing alot of talking here, but just how much is actually done yet? Just wondering.

sgrby877 - May 8, 2004 11:15 PM (GMT)
Since you guys are doing a remake, you should put a new visual to the map, perhaps something similar to ff7, or you could even do a cartoonish map similar to that of final fantasy crystal chronicles.

WolfPack - May 9, 2004 12:31 AM (GMT)
I don't think cartoon would fit.

Vash72 - May 30, 2004 07:13 PM (GMT)

I personally like the deformed style idea alot more than something simular to the Morrowind map, as the Crono Trigger map itself added alot of character to the game, which I would miss in a realistic map. It would be great to upgrade the map and give it a smoother look simular to the maps in Chrono Cross though if possible..............

Cheers,

Vash

Beau.IXI - June 13, 2004 09:33 PM (GMT)
They both sound pretty good... Uhmm, well, it prolly isn't very plausible, but could you have both somehow? I think the main thing, is to make sure that it's animé. Definately.

{bac}Trooper - June 22, 2004 02:49 AM (GMT)
While MorrowinD is cool and all I actualy think you should stick to original style. Map of Crono Trigger. But i actualy liked the idea of when you get into the town it goes in 3d. not like just every house you go in to.

Jack - June 22, 2004 07:51 AM (GMT)
Right now its a good bet the maps will end up looking like FFX style. If we were to do an super above type map like origional CT it would be putting alot of the jaw-dropping power of Unreal to waste.

Think of it this way, would you want to have crono walking around a super creepy castle with tall celings and a compleatly inclosed errie feeling or would you rather see crono running around in the level with cut up walls and a overall lack of fine detail. Not to mention all the awesome things we could do with cutscenes using the built in Unreal cinima editor if we use a more FFX system. (Oh, and don't forget Karma physics and all the amazing lighting effects we would use at our desposail if we allow our characters to be closer too, be pacent though, when the new site is up we will talk about some major developments about this kind of thing)

So right now personally I would much prefear a FFX/Semi-CC feel to it, think about it... wouldn't the origional CT guys want something like that? CC was much more dynamic and 3d with its levels than CT and games that came out after that have just expanded on it, it seems like its the natural way to go.

Now for levels themselves, we will try to keep out levels as close as humanly possable to the origionals, but in the 3d realm with major grafical enhansments.

Whee, late at night and I can't spell...

I agree with jack 100%.

Alezunde - June 22, 2004 07:19 PM (GMT)
You can have an overhead perspective and still include lots of detail.
If we do that, it will make the map that much more impressive.
But I don't think the player will be walking through a creepy castle on the overworld.
The biggest reason I think we should stick with the CT style, is because the world will be much more recognizeable to the players that way. Plus, it will be a lot more fun to fly the Epoch around that sort of map.

-Alezunde

Jack - June 22, 2004 07:35 PM (GMT)
Well I was just talking about normal gameplay, the overworld is a compleatly diffrent story. I think that overhead would be just fine for the Overworld, the backrounds could be made with very high poly 3d modles then transformed into lower poly maps with images of the high poly over then, making a half 2d and 3d high quality envroyment and able to run fine on computers.

ChronoTriggerArtist - June 22, 2004 10:21 PM (GMT)
Thats soo pointless, Why should you remake this game pixel by pixel, if your gonna remake this game make the whole game 3d. Dont you get it there doesnt have to be an overworld, when you walk out of chronos house no longer will you be looking down at a 2d map you'll be looking at the houses in front of you, the market, the fair in the distance, that fountain in the center of the town, I mean we already have a 2d version of the game we dont need another one, are you all too scared to improve the game a little?

Jack - June 22, 2004 11:07 PM (GMT)
The towns will be 3d, but we are keeping the overword and having it probally 3d or 2.5d, witout one you would be running throuth the planes of a field for a very long time, the point of the overworld is to make the illusion you are traveling a long distance.

leifo - July 14, 2004 08:36 AM (GMT)
Hello,
In my opinion, the deformed view of Chrono works very well. (it) makes it easier to navigate the map, and since there aren't any random battles, there's no need for it to take time to walk from a to b.
just my thoughts, KUTGW!

NrG - July 14, 2004 05:03 PM (GMT)
You should keep it how you said it, 3d or 2.5d , like they did with 7 and 8, also make it so there are battles in the oeverworld map.

Galidan - July 14, 2004 06:30 PM (GMT)
Battles on the Overworld? That's a mucho chango. Overworld battles are useful for leveling, but I've never felt that they've added too much to a game.

Janus - July 14, 2004 11:31 PM (GMT)
I like the deformed overview better (but for the worldmap only),like in the original.
For the battles in the worldmap  i think itīs something boring that just getīs in your way to piss you off. I never really enjoyed random battles .

TheBrain - July 15, 2004 12:59 AM (GMT)
No random battles, i hate them...
I don't like the idea of battles in the worldmap, it should be a place were the player can rest.

Knives101 - July 15, 2004 04:40 AM (GMT)
 I liked breath of fire3s map system, you randomly encounter a exclamation mark, you have a choice of going into a small area to do random battles, it was a great system, why they altered it in 4 I'll never no.

If you put a diffcult setting on the game (Ho CT did a + thing on the files), it wouldnot be such a bad idea . . . i guess

Janus - July 16, 2004 01:12 AM (GMT)
:o
The problem about overworld or random battles is that it makes people lose interest in the game eventually .I think you should fight only when you feel like it or when you need to level up a little . ;)
