Title: Guardia Castle in CTRP
Description: ideas? requests?
Knives - March 31, 2004 01:45 AM (GMT)
I am mapping Guardia Castle for the mod. I was going to do a pretty accurate representation of the castle as in the original game (since I think this would be fine being a fairly close copy.) Are there any changes or additions that any of you would like to see?
Knives101 - March 31, 2004 05:51 AM (GMT)
 The dungeon should be more scarry and forboding. That and some pictures of the family posted around the castle. Maybe a picture of Cyrus in the knights courters. Some more rooms would be good as courters for the maids and knights. That may be a little much sorry. :P
John - March 31, 2004 06:33 AM (GMT)
A nice, high ceiling.
Since we don't see one in the original, it would be nice if you got a really neat ceiling. Maybe get someone to texture something up top, but nothing too extreme.
Oh, and tell me if you get any ideas for the music for the castle while you're making it.

Knives101: Good idea with the dungeon. I'm not making that part of the castle yet, but when I get to it I will definitely implement that idea. Also, I have sent a request to Alezunde for a portrait of Cyrus.
John: I was thinking some slightly "grander" sounding music than the original game had. Kind of like that one song from FFVI (I haven't played that game in long time, it's the first desert town you come to). The original song works great too! And of course, we want that high ceiling.
Thanks for suggestions!

You should probablly add a lot more knights in the castle itself. And guards and things outside, if your doing that, considering an army could just walk up and knowck on the door and make themselves at home. As for inside, more room and armories and the like. More rooms would really be essential to make it feel like a real castle. But i dunno, it might not be what you guys wanna do. oh btw knives why doesnt it say that your a TEAM - Designer or somthing like that?

For some reason Jack has not updated my profile yet. I have been meaning to ask him for some time now.

I don't have any control of that :P Brain is the one who does.

Guardia Castle, huh? Well; if you wish to make the enviroment of that castle more... appropriate, you will want to have quite a few more soldiers roaming about the castle... as well as a more "dungeon-like" feel to it.
What I find odd that noone had mentioned, however; is the fact that there are no monuments (portraits, statues, etc) of the royal family... or the knights (for that matter). The upper regions of the castle (bedrooms) should be a little more... home-like, as well. As for the courtroom... I recommend that have more enviroment. As you may remember, the original courtroom was not particularly as large as it really should be (you could only move a bit up or down). I'd like the courtroom to have some more dimension to it... if possible, to have a sense of realism. The most difficult aspect of your intended updates is the fact that they must retain their original "feel" from CT.
To get you started, I recommend you get some of the sketchers in the project to draw some "blue-prints" for the idea... then (if the blueprints are good enough) attempt to build that model. Hope my views on the topic helped a bit. B)

Thanks for your suggestions.
I think I can design a lot of the castle myself without help from the sketch artists; however, any new textures or static meshes I am going to need some help with, because I do not know Photoshop or Maya (but I wanna learn Maya soon). Your comment about the bedrooms is an EXTREMELY good idea, as well as the courtroom. The castle should also feel a little less empty this time. Perhaps some chandeliers?
As for the soldiers, those are custom actors (anything that makes something happen or exist in Unreal) that I will have to implement later once our coders make them.
Great ideas once again, Apocalypse! I encourage everyone else on the forums to give me suggestions as well!
Bujiro - April 6, 2004 06:41 AM (GMT)
I'd like to see lots more levels and things to do in the castle. Make it a little bit more design filled. Add some things that hint to the past as well, such as relics and statues that you see in other time periods. Also it would be cool to have a dragon ranch, even though tha's from Chrono Cross, it would be neat to have that mini game it it as well.
Knives - April 6, 2004 11:01 PM (GMT)
You had me until the dragon ranch...everything else roX but the dragon ranch is just a little out of place.
Thanks.
Knives101 - April 7, 2004 08:33 AM (GMT)
 Knights usually ride horses... what did the gaurdia knights ride... it wasn't a giant robotic dragon or a speeder bikes. Thats it you could add a small section for where the do there lab work like where the dragon tank was built something along that lines.(Maybe thats what Bujiro was refering too.)
Apocalypse - April 7, 2004 11:19 PM (GMT)
I agree... seeing as those are medieval times you would expect to see knights on horses... and not have only swords; but also have lances and/or axes... possibly even have some archers. I suppose the Dragon robot is possible during that time due to... steam technology. Even if you did look at that thing, you could tell it wasn't nearly as advanced as say... Lucca's inventions.
Anyway, I suppose these ideas would seem a bit more realistic; but you really have to think about it. It may make the game seem too different from the original... which isn't what I think the Development Team wants...
Knives101 - April 8, 2004 12:34 AM (GMT)
 ... woops I meant to suggest the dragon tank thing in the present time castle... um my bad. :P
Alezunde - April 8, 2004 01:51 AM (GMT)
Oooh yes - definately a high ceiling.
And windows up high in the appropriate spots.
You could even show other parts of the castle through the windows - such as towers and roofs. Even trees.
You could even see if, in the final edits of the level, you could add light streaming in the windows.
-Alezunde
P.S. I hope I didn't misunderstand your inent concerning Guardia Castle!
(Lol I kind of went on in my email... )
Knives - April 8, 2004 12:05 PM (GMT)
Sry, haven't been able to check my mail yet.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
Knives101 - April 12, 2004 11:53 PM (GMT)
 A statue of both glenn and Cyrus standing back to back would be cool.
Jack - April 13, 2004 02:20 AM (GMT)
Got any shots of the map yet? I would love to see what you have to far :)
WolfPack - April 24, 2004 10:47 PM (GMT)
Yes, Cyrus and Gleen would be cool. What would be cooler, is if theres a staute of Chrono in 1000ad, erected in 600 ad in honor of him.
Alezunde - April 30, 2004 09:58 PM (GMT)
It probably wouldn't have statues.
Statues would probably be reserved for the Town Square somewhere anyhow - not in a medieval Castle.
Banner and tapestries would be a much more fitting decoration.
-Alezunde
Knives101 - April 30, 2004 10:20 PM (GMT)
 You could have a like old style tapestry of a the gaurdia army led by cyrus going to attack a dark figure of magus on whos standing on a hill surrounded by his little goblin buddies and ozzie out in front leading them into battle... when I say old style art I mean something like what theydid in Zelda Windwaker, just some basic stuff that manages to catch the dramatic feel of the battles fought during the war. ;)
Knives - May 1, 2004 12:20 AM (GMT)
Alezunde - May 2, 2004 08:06 AM (GMT)
Wind Waker tapestry style = good idea.
-Alezunde
Knives101 - May 2, 2004 11:17 PM (GMT)
 I'm sure you guys or validus could do something along that lines easy.
Alezunde - May 3, 2004 03:15 AM (GMT)
Something along the lines of Wind Waker style would be a piece of cake in Photoshop - a little bit more work, and it would look like a geniune tapestry.
-Alezunde
SSJoseph - May 3, 2004 05:31 AM (GMT)
Hmm..you think maybe you can add some more rooms.
I mean it was A little empty, to me anyway
Knives101 - May 4, 2004 12:40 AM (GMT)
 You guys could have tapastries like that for a whole bunch of things in the castle. One in the mess haul in the present commereating chrono and friends for saving the queen.
In the middle ages one for when Cyrus and glenn leave to look for the masamune.
.... And in the prehistory era in the chiefs hut, a small tapastry or fur carpet if you will could show how chrono ayla and freinds or just ayla beat back the dinos. (not sure if theres already an important carpet there, sorry)
WolfPack - May 8, 2004 04:30 AM (GMT)
I like the ideas. About the prehistory, at first it should just have ayla, but after you go back to 65 mil, it should also show chrono and group.
And another thing. What about the catharedal? Should there be a way to get it to be there in 1000 ad ? That would be cool
Knives101 - May 8, 2004 05:41 AM (GMT)
 Actually if you do robos rebuild the forest quest, the Cathedreals moved to where the desert used to be.
Apocalypse - May 8, 2004 05:17 PM (GMT)
Well... your sort of right K101. If you remember correctly, that is a sanctuary-type building built in memorium of Robo and the resoration of the forest. It really isn't the cathedral... but I suppose I can understand where you are coming from with that. Seeing the cathedral isn't really necessary... and plus, it's removal would make sense storyline-wise. Think about it, the cathedral was actually full of Magus's spies... after the discovery of their "base" wouldn't the king order its demolition?
It does make sense... when you look at it that way. ;)
WolfPack - May 8, 2004 08:57 PM (GMT)
Well, maybe. I would think it would be cheeper for the king just to place a guard around it. Or something
Knives101 - May 9, 2004 08:23 AM (GMT)
 ...eh... I was close.... ;)
I'm curios what the churches windows will look like, do you guys plan on doing stain glass windows or just the basic "super sunny windows" thing.
WolfPack - May 10, 2004 01:08 AM (GMT)
Hopefully they can make things look real. Like proper shading and lighting. What would also be cool would be a Day and Night system.
Apocalypse - May 10, 2004 01:28 AM (GMT)
Night and day system... I mentioned something like that WAY back around the time when I first joined the forums. Anyway, though that did make the game a bit more... realistic; I don't particularly remember that idea being one of the more... popular ones. :ph43r:
Most of the Rpgs wait until the characters go to an Inn to allow night to come, even Chrono Trigger is one of these. The lack of night is not particularly a major problem, and I admit it really isn't necessary. It would add a sense of realism though, but the question is: Do you really want Chrono Trigger to be changed in order to seem more realistic?
Knives101 - May 10, 2004 05:08 AM (GMT)
SSJoseph - May 11, 2004 12:10 AM (GMT)
No way, I mean I like the idea.
but I don't like changing the game like that.
Major noticable things= no good to A remake.
Major noticable things = yes to A parody.
I would vote yes, if it was an addon to the mod.
Like, more downloadable adventures, more character textures, more baddies in certain areas, more modes, etc.
BTW, how does my idea sound...the addon idea that is
WolfPack - May 12, 2004 07:11 AM (GMT)
I dunno, Day/Night system is cool, i dun think it would ruin it that much - think of it as an enhancement. There should also be weather like rain, snow, sleet, ect. That would be awsome.
Knives101 - May 13, 2004 01:05 AM (GMT)
 There was a snow effect in the dark ages(Zeal age... whatever). There wouldn't be much point to the day to night theme because nothing happens during the night.... it would just be darker.
SSJoseph - May 13, 2004 01:58 AM (GMT)
Well you can program it that there are new side quest at night.
But then once again that is going way to off of a remake project
