Title: New Game+
Description: Pitch your game idea here
zeekpunk - May 19, 2005 07:33 AM (GMT)
I would like to still work with everyone here on new stuff, pitch your ideas and we see what we can come up with.
Doesnt have to be a game, could be digital comic, movie,a story, anything.
Duranix - May 19, 2005 07:39 AM (GMT)
i already do comics....... they turn out pretty good, i just dont usually publish them on the net....
i reckon we could do either a movie, or a new game.
Almighty_Gir - May 19, 2005 07:50 AM (GMT)
im actually already designing a mod for HL2 if anyones interested in helping!
all origional races, gonna have spells that manipulate the environment (imagine your mage pulling the HL2 water from a lake, and using it as a weapon!!!). close quarters sword fights. enchant your friends weapons and armour with spells to make them more powerful, and at the same time, weaker against other effects!!

ooooh im interested gir
i sent u a pm
Almighty_Gir - May 19, 2005 12:40 PM (GMT)
dur, im actually looking for a concept artist. so, if your interested. design for me, an amphibious race :D
Waterns - May 19, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
How about something local? Like for example:
Waterns
Mukilteo/Everett/Seattle, Washington
HighSchool
That way people can get connected and work on a project.
Magus5311 - May 19, 2005 05:16 PM (GMT)
I've been playin around in the Elder Scrolls Construction set... It's great fer mods... o.o
I was thinkin of getting a team together and makin a small game/mod for it...

cool :D
ill draw it and colour it in as soon as i get back from school :)
Knives101 - May 20, 2005 10:54 PM (GMT)
 Heh I was gonna do a Comic about the reactions thread, and all the wackyness that went on in there. Just never got the time to do it... that and I still can't draw backgrounds to save my life(specially in MSpaint).
Heh a comic including the forum members...not new but still woulda been interesting.
Also if ya plan on doing another game, you could allways go to a space travel'n theme, their a little tired sure, but always interesting. I got lots of ideas... unfortunately most of them would get me tied up and thrown into a white padded room.
Apocalypse - May 20, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
I agree. Though CTRP is finished, I do not think the team should throw in the towel. There are alot of talented members, why not start something new? It may not by Chrono Trigger, but with so many great ideas to implement in a game... how could it possibly be a BAD thing to try something else?
To make it even easier, alot of the renderings already made can be used in a new game. If you guys continue with anything, PLEASE inform me. I'd like to be a part of something new too.
zeekpunk - May 21, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
I've had this character drawn up for a few years but havent really put him in a role yet
GalaxyFalcon - May 21, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
Gir, i could attempt drawing.
I cannot draw people, but when we finish moving i will begin learning how and practicing alot, once again.
I can, however, draw Weapons, ships, buildings, objects, and things. Atleast Okay stuff, somone better than me could improve on them later.
I will however, be learning how to draw. If you want, as im learning and getting better, ill try to draw some stuff and give them to you, when we get a scanner. (Which will happeb after we move, in 4 weeks)
Just tell me what you want!
Almighty_Gir - May 21, 2005 11:48 AM (GMT)
sounds cool, ive got room for 2 concept artisists, who need to be very very imaginative. there arent going to be any unorigional aspects to this game (well, none that i can help anyway.) which means there are no "known" races, no orcs, no elves, no humans... sure there might be similar characteristics, but i do actually want to remain origional :)
i also need programmers with a GOOD knowledge of C++, those are most important right now. and ill need someone compitent with Valve Hammer editor.
Magus5311 - May 21, 2005 03:57 PM (GMT)
C++!!!!!
Oh oh! I know! Magus5311! I've been doing C++ for 5 years, taking some college classes of it over the summer too! ^.^ Although, I'm nothing compaired to my friend, he is the C++ master...
I've made a few games with C++, working on my first RPG using it now... If you want any examples ask... (AIM would most likely be the easiest way)
But yeah, I'd love a part in it, if not as a programmer than a concept artist... Just give me the programs to do the art and I'll learn (I'm a fast learner o.o)
Almighty_Gir - May 21, 2005 05:26 PM (GMT)
do you have hl2? as the source engine/hl2 is what im going to be using, and ive been reliably informed that it has a wide codebase, and C++ skills are essential.
if you do have it. visit the steam site and hook yourself up with the SDK to become familiarized with it :)
Magus5311 - May 21, 2005 05:47 PM (GMT)
I don't have it... o.o I can maybe look into getting it, but I am 100% broke right now.

Cool... there's finally another programmer around here. 'Tis a shame you came so late in the game, but then again; the project likely would have been cancelled earlier even if you DID join the team.
I'll consider joining whatever project pops up after I'm done with my game. To be honest... we haven't gotten much done yet. We've had to nelglect our C++ skills for a while, because (as I said earlier), we've been learning assembly and processor programming. That's some SERIOUS programming there. Nasty stuff... though I can understand it, I DEFINENTLY wouldn't want to do THAT for a living. Anyway, once we get our project done, which we have dubbed "Final Failure" (don't ask), I'll see if I can reserve the time for whatever project comes up. Next year in school should be far less congested. I will be doing a Senior Project, but it'll be relatively simple. I can't say WHAT it is, because well... I can't afford it getting patented before our completion. Lets just say, I'll be having some extra time... POSSIBLY, next year. Which may mean I can FINALLY focus more on the GAMING aspect of engineering (FINALLY!!!). B)
*edit*
By the way... I'll be brainstorming some ideas for RPG games soon. I say we should use what has been made with the CTRP so far, in the new game. It will DEFINENTLY decrease the development time.

Man, I'm not going to steal your engine. I've just thought a nice story and I want to make it a game. If we can work together for it, I have no problem, I find it better.
Galidan - May 26, 2005 11:41 PM (GMT)
I have an idea. People gives their ideas, then everyone votes on them. The people who have the most popular ideas can stay on as designers to give additional input for the game. That way we get the brightest people heard and in turn we are likely to come up with an enjoyble game.

We can reuse many ideas from CT without actually causing copyright problems; basically, because you can't copyright such a broad term as "time travel", or "midevil times", the "future", etc. Technically, they could make a game LIKE Chrono Trigger that isn't exactly Chrono Trigger.
As such, I suggest a game quite... similar to CT. Afterall, we all like CT; so why not do something similar?
We can have various characters from different time periods, pretty similar to CT. However... we can't have the exact characters. I DO believe the MAIN (lead) character should be highly similar to Chrono from Chrono Trigger though. Afterall, a silent hero is one I know many people particularly enjoy.
Main (lead) Character: Ragnos <--- Choose a different name if wanted... just an idea.
- A boy raised by his father ever since childhood. Has a strong bond with father, but with deprivation of a mother, is not very emotional. He is loyal to those he is friends with, perhaps a bit too much. He constantly holds on to a necklace his mother once had. In terms of general appearance, he is somewhat muscular, with a stance seeming relatively disciplined. Not short, however, not extremely tall either. He has blue spiky hair (perhaps not as spiky as Crono's), and has green eyes. He soon shall be recuiting to be a knight of kingdom <insert name here>, just as his father once was.
... anyone care to build from there?

Apocalypse - May 30, 2005 05:40 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... so it seems like a plausible beginning of a RPG? That's good... though alot more decisons on the other main characters, enemies, and the worlds themselves must be made. If this is a good enough idea to start with, we should start BUILDING upon the already-known facts. Before diving in to storyline, we should start by defining the simple facts.
1.) How many main characters (other than "Ragnos") will there be?
2.) If the game is to include time travel... what time will the game start out in?
3.) What times will there be to travel to?
4.) What is the kingdom present during Ragnos's time-period named?
5.) After we build details about main characters, we then have to choose their corresponding era. I suggest at least one female character in the beginning; whom shall possibly cause Ragnos to begin his adventure (many Rpgs begin that way).
6.) How will time-travel (as that is one of the elements of the game) be done?
7.) What changes shall occur over the world as time passes?
8.) What is the main goal of the adventure?
These are important. There are likely a few others that must be answered... but these seem relatively good to start out with.
Remember... these are just ideas. You may take or scrap whatever is shown. If you like the current ideas though, but think a few changes need to be made... then I say, "feel free to do so."
As many of our favorite Rpgs go... there are a few emotions characters are supposed to have. USUALLY there is the "hero", the "magical girl", the "tough guy", the "smart person", the "pure-hearted heroine", the "dark, mysterious ally", the "Reluctant Hero", and the occasional "perverted moron". In a few cases, these characteristics are mixed within the characters... though I usually notice that many characters share their own personal "emotion" only with themselves.
<Pure-Hearted Heroine>
- I think this is necessary for this kind of game. In my view, Chrono Trigger had Marle fulfill this role. As such, for the game to begin; there REALLY should be a girl Ragnos either falls for, or has known as a childhood friend. This is my opinion, anyway.
If we are to discuss anything first, it should REALLY be about:
- The name of the kingdom, and the history of it. Any cultural traditions would be good to include with this as well.
- The "heroine" who lives within Ragnos's time-line, and has a part pertaining to beginning Ragnos's journey.
*EVERYTHING about this is pending. It is very useful though, to share ideas. The faster we think up some good ideas, the faster we get something for the Team to work on... possibly. Any feedback?*
zeekpunk - May 30, 2005 10:16 AM (GMT)
yea this is what I wanted from this thread, keep the ideas flowing.
How about everyone come up with a character and we see what sounds good.
Name:
Age:
Sex:
Alligiance: clan,organizaton,person
Mood: Easy going, agressive, dillirious etc.
ColorScheme: Cools,Warms,Earthtones,Light,Dark,Saturated,Desaturated etc.
Element: Water,Ice,Fire,Lightning,Earth,Stone,Wind,Light,Dark,Custom
Battlestyle: Melee/Range/Custom
Description:
Feel free to expand this with as much detail about your character as you like with additional questions
Name: Zeek
Age: 16
Sex: M
Alligiance: OrganiXian
Mood: Relaxed
ColorScheme:Cool earthtones
Element: Water/Earth
Battlestyle: Primarily melee
Description: Open minded, behind the scenes type guy. Very stealthy. Likes to swim and have a good time with friends. Comes from an early era but uses technology.
Also Ive been dying to make/play a multiplayer turn based rpg forever! We never really got into coding the turn based battle system but I have a few ideas of how to. I do have a fixed camera system working in beta too that could come in handy.
Apocalypse - May 30, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
Good. Now we're getting somewhere. Well... lets try to get something together. It'd be REALLY good if we had some of the writer people around too... I'm sure their contributions to an entirely new (but somewhat related) story would be of great use.
Name: Ragnos (Rahg-nohs)
Age: 17
Sex: M
Alligiance: Kingdom of <insert name here>. Soon to be recruit.
Mood: Lacking in much emotion, typically calm and silent.
ColorScheme: This is a bit difficult to do, as I don't know what most of the stuff you listed here means. Basically, I want Ragnos to have a variety of colors (as most anime characters do) built in to his model. I don't want them to be particularly "bright" though. Generally, I believe a character such as his requires darker, more "earthy" clothes.
Element: I know this sounds some-what like a rip-off of "Crono", but I think his main elements should be wind and lightning.
Battlestyle: All-Around. Can hold ground in all fields, though specializes in close-combat.
Description:A boy raised by his father ever since childhood.
I guess I'll go along and give my thoughts on the female character... though I REALLY can't even THINK of an appropriate name. Lets just call her "Schala" for now. ;)
Name: Schala (Scha-la)
Age: 17
Sex: F
Alligiance: Citizen of Kingdom <insert name here>
Mood: Slightly clumsy, easy-going, has a kind heart.
ColorScheme: Most girls who the hero knows or has a crush on generally have an aura of light around them (even Marle), in the fact that they usually tend to have everything about them be relatively light in color. As such, "Schala" (as we're calling her for now) will wear relatively light-colored garbs.
Element: Light
Battlestyle: Long range attacks, expertise in magic.
Description: A childhood friend of Ragnos. She has known Ragnos since they were about four. At that point, Ragnos's mother was still alive. Over the years, they have grown close; despite Ragnos's disciplined (and often lacking in emotion) attitude, she tends to bring a smile from him frequently. She is basically in the most obvious way, a kind of opposite of Ragnos in terms of character; though perhaps, that is what makes their relationship better. She lives with her mother and father (for now, lets not name them) not too far off from where Ragnos lives. She does not like the idea of Ragnos becoming a knight, rumours of war (lets just leave what it is, or why it happens unnamed for now) are spreading about. In terms of general appearance, she is smaller than Ragnos, and obviously more fragile. Height-wise, she is slightly shorter than Ragnos. She has long hair, though I can't decide on a color. Perhaps blonde or other such light-colors would work for her. Her eyes should also be a light color; thus either a light-green or a blue would work well. I can't really think much of what her outfit would look like, I suppose she should have a relatively light-colored outfit, no particularly bold colors.
...by the way; I WOULD like a character similar Magus. Not only can I not think of a way to introduce him, but I can't really think of how to keep him as an ally. On top of that, making a character somewhat like Magus could kind of be seen as... a ripoff... :(
*edit*
You said you wanted a multiplayer, as in, online, RPG (not MMORPG though)? That sounds like an interesting idea. I've been trying to find information on creating networks with programs. I've found a few things. It is relatively simple thus far; I probably could make a SIMPLE chat program in a day or less. If it helps towards the goals of this project, I might be able to share any information I gather... once I find some more sources on it, anyway.
fxar99 - May 30, 2005 04:34 PM (GMT)
Okay, let me post my idea. I'm programming my own 'engine' for an RPG (the graphics will be like Chrono Trigger and it will have some travelling between time and two planets). But my talent in graphics is 0 so, if anyone wants to assist me, when I finish the code and start the game, can he/she design characters and environment? I would ask Akira Toriyama, but I've lost his phone number. :P
zeekpunk - May 30, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
Ive already made an mmorpg(wasnt really massive though), there is way too much to deal with. I was thinking of 3 person to a party where you have to heal/tech with friends all over the world.

Ask and you shall recieve. On both counts. ;)
Full Name: Alyas (pronounced uh-lie-us) Smeelton
Age: Unknown, but really, really frickin' old
Sex: M
Alligiance: None
Mood: Senile
ColorScheme: Ancient. Withered, very pale skin. White hair, white eyebrows, long white beard. Wears a cloak and gloves. Sepia or possibly Black & White colored clothing, to signify his extreme old age.
Element: Dark/Shadow/Whatever you want to call it.
Battlestyle: Mainly ranged magic attacks. Carries a gnarled wooden walking stick for melee fighting.
Description: A wizard who lives in the Feudal Ages. He was once a normal, young man studying all the magic elements in an attempt to master them all; but then he met a peasant woman by the name of Selvie (full name: Selvania Archet) and fell head-over-heels for her. Unfortunately, she was killed by a widespread plague (the Black Plague, perhaps?) before Alyas could confess his love to her. Stricken with grief, Alyas vowed to find a way to bring her back to life through his magical studies. He began delving into the Forbidden Arts, a.k.a. the Shadow element, in an attempt to find some way of reviving Selvie...but his plan backfired. The nature of the dark magics instead warped his mind and body, and over the course of a few years he aged rapidly, went completely insane, lost his memories of Selvie, and forgot everything about his former life.
When Ragnos and the rest of the group meet him, he's just a crazy old guy living by himself out in the middle of nowhere. He offers to help them for no apparent reason, seemingly on a whim. Ragnos & Company reluctantly accept his help, since he's a powerful magic-caster and knows a lot about how to kill the local monsters. Then, as the story progresses, you'll begin to learn more about Alyas's past and will eventually help him get his memories back. At the end of the game (i.e. after you beat the last boss), one of two outcomes will occur, depending on the choices you make with Alyas throughout the game.
OUTCOME # 1: Alyas dies, reuniting with Selvie at last.
OUTCOME # 2: Alyas abandons the Forbidden Arts. He regains his youthful appearance and becomes completely sane again, then goes back to his own time in order to search for another way to revive his lost love.
'Tis a sad, sad story, that it is. I may weep openly...*sniff* *choke* *sob* :P
As you can tell, there are quite a few similarities between Alyas and Magus. His elemental attribute, the way he dresses, the time period he lives in, and even his dual fates at the end of the game (die/not die) are all borrowed from Magus' identity. Alyas is also a bit like Frog, in that he has been deformed by his own magic.
While Alyas is in your party, he'll take on the roles of Weirdo, Comic Relief, and Perverted Moron thanks to his senility and overall wackiness. ;)

Unfortunately, I can't be of much use in art. I can draw decently (enough to let the artists make a better rendition), but I do not have a scanner. To top it off, I don't even have photoshop. In other words... I can't draw Ragnos or Schala. I COULD make a kind of body-structure for them though, using paint. In fact, I already have made one for Ragnos. Being that it is pretty much just a stick figure showing a few attributes of body structure, it would require an artist to actually complete the model. Sorry guys... this is the best I can do.
...anyway, here's Ragnos's body-structure.

If you actually (for some bizarre reason) want me to do Schala's just ask. I can't guarantee much better though, as well... paint isn't exactly the best tool for making good-looking artistic models.
Stoney - June 2, 2005 02:10 AM (GMT)
 Apoc, your amazing drawing skillz have inspired me. How's this for Ragnos's head?

Heh, he looks a lot like Crono, doesn't he? XD
That's supposed to be a ball of lightning below his head. I can't draw electricity very well...LOL.
BTW, I apologize for the wonky shading...it just turned out that way when I scanned it into my PC. :P
Apocalypse - June 2, 2005 03:43 AM (GMT)
It looks pretty nice.
...The only problem with that, is that it looks too much like Crono. Don't get me wrong, he COULD look some-what like Crono, but there needs to be some differences. For one, that hair and head-band is a DEFINITE give-away that the character is Crono. Change those features a bit, and perhaps we can have a good model for Ragnos's face at least. ;)
Waterns - June 2, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
Updated the site with the above "art". I think Stoneys drawing is good but it is a lot like Crono. But that is all good. Nobody is going to bother us about it.
We need some more art and ideas coming through people!!!!

Okay, here's Ragnos, Version .2 Beta. I drew it in about five minutes, LOL. I've only gotten his head, arms, and upper torso done for now, but I'm posting it anyway to see what you think of it so far:

On a side note, I can't draw scale mail worth SPAM. :P
Is this the kind of costume you're thinking of, Apoc? I'd like to know what you'd want him to wear before I proceed any further...
BTW, what kind of weapon will Ragnos use? I had to leave his right hand empty 'cuz I didn't know whether he'd use a sword, a staff, or whatever...
Apocalypse - June 4, 2005 03:51 AM (GMT)
Surprisingly... yes; that is almost exactly what I was thinking Ragnos would look like. As a knight, he should have armor such as that, but it would be awkward to see him so heavily armored while he is a civilian. On top of that, travelling to different times wearing the armor of a future or past civilization may not be a great idea either. Perhaps he should just wear the armor temporarily while he acts as a knight to the kingdom.
Though that character looks quite nice so far; there will likely have to be a few more distinguishable things about him, like certain accesories he may wear (a necklace, bracer, etc). As a knight, he would typically either wield a sword or lance. Heros typically wield a sword, hence it would seem reasonable for him to have a sword. I would suggest one a bit more like Frog's kind of blade (broad/long sword) rather than Crono's (typically Katana).
For the character model seen in the game; I would recommend him to wear slightly... "more civilian" clothes. It wouldn't make sense for him to walk around in armor all the time, afterall. So far though; I like what you've come up with. Very good model for the first attempt. ;)

You've gotta be kidding me, Apoc. I want you to take a long, hard look at Frog's sprite. Does he look like he's wearing civilian clothes? :P
Besides, I imagine it would be far easier to merely have a single model per character instead of multiple models, each with a different costume. I think that wearing armor the whole game through would also be a constant reminder of the time period that Ragnos is from, and would emphasize the "fish-out-of-water" feelings that the player would get when traveling to different time periods.
Currently working on a full-body sketch of Alyas. I'm also working on sketches of Ragnos's various facial expressions. Hope to post them soon!
