Description: after settling negotiation disputes

TalB - May 22, 2003 07:05 PM (GMT)
The WNBA (Women's National Baskettball Associtation) is ready to begin its 7th season. However, before it could even start there were disputes on renewing the contract between the players and Val Ackermen, who is the president of the WNBA. It was on the fact that the players want to make more money. Some of them get paid more for playing overseas than in the WNBA. This is mainly b/c they claim that they are real good and should be making more money. When the 2003 season there will be some changes. The first one is that Orlando Miracle moved from Orlando, Florida to Ucansville, Connecticut to become the Connecticut Sun, while the Utah Staz moved from Salt Lake City, Utah to San Antonio, Texas to become the San Antonio Sliver Stars. The second thing is that the Miami Sol and Portland Fire have folded hence they no longer exist in the WNBA. In other news, Cynthia Cooper, who was a legend in the WNBA, is coming out of retirement and returing to the Houston Comets after retiring for 2 years. Can she give this team another championship or did the Comets officially end? Lisa Leslie, who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks, is looking to get a 3-peat for her team. Meanwhile, the New York Liberty have yet to even win a championship after making in 4 out of 6 years of being in the WNBA Finals. We will just have to see how the season goes on when it starts on Memorial Day weekend.
