They're back in the recording studio making a new album. I recently made a CD for Lauren full of nothing but BSB Songs.

Their old songs weren't bad...but the Black and Blue album kinda lost me a bit...

You got to listen to them closely, dude. One of them could be played at Jen & Wes' wedding on Power Rangers.

Backstreet Boys Say Comeback Single 'Incomplete' Chose Them

Quintet mulling follow-up single, solidifying summer tour.

Lesson #1 in staging a successful comeback: Don't bother choosing the music; let the music choose you.
As the Backstreet Boys were busy sifting through dozens of tracks to determine the first single off their forthcoming release, Never Gone, little did they know that the choice had already been made for them.
"We were narrowing it down to about two or three songs collectively as a group, and we were talking amongst ourselves about it with our management, and the next thing you know, we're getting news that 'Incomplete' is on the radio and on the Internet," AJ McLean said.
Before the mid-tempo power ballad was leaked, the Boys were also considering the fan tribute "I Still" and "Weird World," written by Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik, as their comeback single (see "Backstreet Boys Promise New Single 'Is Going To Shock You' ").
But, " 'Incomplete' got such a great response from all the program directors and such a great response from the fans that we told them to just go for it," eldest member Kevin Richardson said.
Turns out the Boys made the right move. Since the song officially hit radio on March 18, it has soared to #2 on the iTunes Top 100 and stands at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"[The song] has done really well, and we've been very fortunate," McLean added. "We are very, very blessed."
The Boys are still in the throes of deciding what their follow-up single will be, although youngest member Nick Carter says they're looking at something mid-to-up-tempo to heat up the radio dials this summer.
"We've got about three songs in contention, and we're gonna vote on it. [There's a] democratic process between us and the record company to figure out which one's the best," Richardson said.
The Backstreet Boys have been busy touring the country to promote Never Gone, which drops June 14. Earlier this year, the quintet embarked on an intimate club tour, mainly in the eastern states, to showcase the new material (see "Backstreet Boys Anxious To Tour, Kick Off Club Run In March").
"[For the first time in awhile], we all got back on one bus," Howie Dorough said. "Nick annoyed the heck out of me, but it was good."
"It was great to be onstage again," Richardson said. "We [wanted to do] a small venue tour so we could reconnect with our fans and have an intimate, unplugged-type vibe at the shows, and we had a blast."
If you missed the Boys' first outing, don't fret - tour dates for a larger arena trek this summer are expected to be announced next week, according to their publicist.

Backstreet Boys Explain Their Motivations To Club Full Of Ladies

Guys work the crowd at fan event in New York.
by Alyssa Rashbaum

NEW YORK - Say what you will about the Backstreet Boys, but one thing is undeniable - they know how to work a room full of shrieking girls better than anyone in the business, a talent they tapped into on Tuesday night at the Canal Room.
On the day its first album in five years, Never Gone, hit stores, the group was feted by Teen People magazine at the downtown club, where the guys posed for photos with fans, signed autographs, belted out a few impromptu notes and shared the stories behind some of their favorite tracks on the new LP.
Seated side by side on the stage, the Backstreet Boys, looking very un-BSB in stylistically divergent outfits - Kevin Richardson wore a Beatles Revolver tee and Brian Littrell sported a suit jacket - listened and sang along to their favorite cuts off the new album, like "Just Want You to Know," which Nick Carter explained was the last track they recorded for Never Gone.
The room, full of fans who might have needed parental accompaniment to some of BSB's earlier concerts, already knew every word to each track on the album, and screamed along. Though they were slightly older than the prepubescent swarms the group catered to in its heyday, the crowd was feeling the new sound, even if the girls didn't know the artists who helped Backstreet achieve it.
"We recorded this song with the drummer from Prince's New Power Generation," said Kevin of the track "Crawling Back to You," a fact that was initially greeted with confused silence.
"It's a classic 'I screwed up and I want you back' song," Richardson said of the track, as Littrell found the microphone sitting idle in his hand irresistible, and began singing along with the music. Taking that as his cue, AJ McLean hopped off his stool and took a few flying leaps across the stage.
While they only briefly addressed the issues behind their five-year absence, they broached the topic subtly, such as when they discussed "Weird World," written by Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik.
"The song is saying, 'Don't let all this negativity wear you down,' " Richardson said.
"That's why we're back - to try to bring back a positive vibe," Carter added.
"We were taking ourselves for granted, taking our fans for granted," McLean chimed in. "It just wasn't fun anymore."
The Boys showed a more whimsical side on the slightly up-tempo "Poster Girl," and catered to fans during "Climbing the Walls," a track originally intended for the "Spider-Man 2" soundtrack, by signing autographs for the duration of that song, as well as the current single, "Incomplete."
While the event itself was short, McLean promised the crowd that the group was serious about its return to music and its fans, and that he has no plans to return to his old habits that kept him off the Backstreet Boys' last tour and contributed to the group's separation.
"It's because of you we're doing this again," he said. "So we're going to keep doing this. And I promise to see you all out on tour."

Backstreet Boy A.J.'s Dream Collaborator Is ... Enya?
Boy-band rebel hopes to complete his first solo LP by June.
by Brandee J. Tecson, with reporting by Jeff Cornell
Nick Carter may have one up on his bandmates as far as solo discs go, but that's likely to change as the Backstreet Boys part ways for the next six months to focus on individual projects.
"We're going to go our separate ways for a while,"A.J. McLean told MTV News recently, adding that his own solo debut is already well under way. "I've been working on it for about two years now, when I've had the time, and I have about 30 or 40 songs written so far. It's my very first record on my own, so it needs to be the best it can possibly be."
This isn't the first time the 28-year-old crooner has dabbled in a solo career. In 2000, at the height of Backstreet's fame, the tattooed "rebel" of the group broke off to perform as his seedy alter ego, Johnny No Name, touring small clubs and showcasing his renditions of tunes from artists like Eminem and Brian McKnight (see "Backstreet's A.J. Goes Solo ... Sort Of"). But he never released an album under the pseudonym, and it's unlikely he ever will.
Those dark days are well behind the rehabilitated singer, who struggles to maintain a clean lifestyle since his 2001 treatment for alcoholism, depression and anxiety (see "Backstreet Boys Postpone Tour As A.J. McLean Seeks Treatment"). Thanks to the support of family and friends, he's been sober for nearly three years.
Never one to do what's expected of him, McLean said his solo effort will probably raise some eyebrows. "It's going to be like funk/soul/rock," he said, citing old-school inspirations like Al Green, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Creedence Clearwater Revival. "I want to go back to the basics. Live instruments, live horns - something you don't hear on the radio anymore. [Right now] it's all about synthesizers and beats, so [I thought], 'Let's try something else.' "

Purple Ranger 14 - March 1, 2006 05:18 PM (GMT)
McLean said he wants to keep the focus on his own talents and limit the number of collaborations, but he's willing to bend the rules for a select few. And no, it's not Pharrell.
"I think it would be fun to do something with Enya just to really screw people up," he said, referring to the ethereal-voiced Irish songstress. "I'd love to do something with Peter Gabriel or John Fogerty, or even Lenny Kravitz or Al Green, if I could."
The singer plans to take his time with the project. He hopes to have it completed by June but said that if it's not 100 percent ready, it's not coming out.
"We're just going to experiment and see [what happens]," he said. "That's how we did our last Backstreet record. We went in for a year and a half and came out with something we were really proud of."
In other Backstreet solo news, Carter is about to start work on his sophomore LP, Howie Dorough is prepping a Spanish/English album, and Brian Littrell is set to drop his pop-gospel record, Welcome Home, on May 2. Meanwhile, Kevin Richardson is diving back into acting after a successful run on Broadway in "Chicago."
Despite all the solo action, fans needn't worry about a Backstreet breakup. A.J. said he and the fellas will hit the studio together this summer to work on a follow-up to 2005's Never Gone, the group's first album since 2000 (see "Backstreet Men? The Boys Grow Up On First Album In Five Years").
"We are definitely going to do another record," he said. "We're not going to wait another five years."
