Gretchen Wilson to Release Second Album in September
Gretchen Wilson will release her second album, All Jacked Up, on Sept. 27, her record label announced Monday (May 2). Wilson co-produced the album with Mark Wright and Big & Rich's John Rich, and she wrote or co-wrote seven of the songs. Before going on tour with Kenny Chesney, Wilson spent the early part of the year recording the project that features vocals from Merle Haggard and a cover of Billie Holiday's "Good Morning Heartache." Wilson's first album for Epic Records, Here for the Party, has been certified quadruple platinum for shipments of 4 million copies. All Jacked Up will be released in Canada and Australia on the same date.

GRETCHEN WILSON SETS DATE FOR NEW ALBUM!
All Jacked Up Follows 4X Platinum Here For The Party
Gretchen Wilson and Sony Music Nashville have set September 27, 2005 as the
release date for the singer/songwriter's second Epic Records' album entitled All
Jacked Up. The album includes twelve songs, seven of which were written or
co-written by Gretchen, all produced by Sony Nashville Executive VP A&R Mark
Wright, recording artist John Rich and Gretchen Wilson.
Knowing how busy 2005 would be touring with Kenny Chesney on the sold-out
Somewhere In The Sun Tour, Gretchen spent all of January and many subsequent
weeks in the studio laying down tracks for All Jacked Up. She has already been
performing several songs on tour from the upcoming album including the rousing
"All Jacked Up" title track, "Skoal Ring," "California Girls" and "Politically
Uncorrect," which features vocals from the legendary Merle Haggard on the album
track. As a bonus cut, Gretchen is including a unique version of "Good Morning
Heartache" from one of her favorite singers, Billie Holiday.
All Jacked Up will be simultaneously released in Canada and Australia - where
Here for the Party is certified Platinum - and other countries to be announced
at a later date. In the last year Gretchen has made two extensive tours of
Australia and Europe for live performances and high-profile media solidifying
her status as a worldwide sensation.
Gretchen has already made numerous television appearances this year including
performances on the Super Bowl Pre-Game Show, the Grammys, the CMT Music Awards
and a high-profile feature on CNN's "People In The News." She will perform on
the Academy of Country Music Awards on May 17 (where she is nominated for five
awards), she will appear on "Ellen" on May 18, and plans are already in the
works for a second appearance on "The Today Show" and a feature on "Dateline
NBC" around the release of All Jacked Up.
The critically-acclaimed Here For The Party album debuted at #2 on Billboard's
Top 200 Album Chart and #1 on the Country Albums chart and placed her in the
record books for the accomplishment. The album went on to spend a record nine
weeks atop the Country Albums Chart and has sold in excess of four million
copies. Her first single "Redneck Woman" spent a record six weeks at #1. She
wrapped up 2004 as the top selling debut artist of any genre. Gretchen's songs
have reached well beyond US borders, earning the powerhouse vocalist worldwide
success.

Gretchen Wilson Closes the CMA Music Festival
Big & Rich, Sawyer Brown, Diamond Rio Put Emphasis on Bands at Sunday Night Concert
Calvin Gilbert
Worried about the future of country music? Afraid it's going to spin out of control and become some nebulous pop concoction devoid of the qualities that made country so great to begin with?
By all indications, Gretchen Wilson isn't going to let that happen anytime soon.
Closing out the final concert of the 2005 CMA Music Festival on Sunday night (June 12) in Nashville, Wilson once again proved herself worthy of the commercial success and critical accolades that have come her way since the release of her debut single, "Redneck Woman," just 15 months ago. Now well past the potential danger of the introductory single casting her as a one-hit novelty act, Wilson seems well on her way to becoming one of the most important country artists to emerge during the past decade.
Not that she's ever appeared timid in front of crowds, but Wilson's live performances just keep getting better. She made her seven-song performance look virtually effortless during the show at the Coliseum, but that's a quality she shares with the finest performers of all musical genres.
Opening with "Homewrecker," she moved even deeper into a traditional country sound with the shuffle, "When It Rains," and the soulful "When I Think About Cheatin'." Introducing two songs from her upcoming album -- "Man With a Skoal Ring" and the title track, "All Jacked Up" -- she completed her concert segment with "Redneck Woman" and "Here for the Party."
Sunday's concert also featured Wilson's MuzikMafia pals, Big & Rich, along with Sawyer Brown, Chris Cagle, Andy Griggs, Diamond Rio and Jeff Bates.
Bates should be applauded -- and he was Sunday night -- for offering the late Conway Twitty's "I'd Love to Lay You Down" as one of the four songs he chose as he opened the concert. For whatever reason, Twitty hasn't received nearly the respect and attention deserved by someone who scored no less than 40 No. 1 country singles, but Bates seems committed to carrying on the style. His voice is at its most distinctive when he's singing in the lower registers, and he used the gift to full effect on "Long Slow Kisses."
Diamond Rio opened their set with the up-tempo "How Your Love Makes Me Feel" but slowed things down by following it up with one of the band's biggest hits, "One More Day," featuring a delicate mandolin solo by Gene Johnson. They introduced two new songs -- the humorous "Redneck Love Gone Bad" and the patriotic "In God We Still Trust." Lead vocalist Marty Roe announced the latter could be their next single. With more than one flag being waved in the audience, the crowd agreed the song would be an excellent choice.
Purple Ranger 14 - June 17, 2005 03:29 PM (GMT)
Griggs set up a mechanism for an automatic audience response by opening with "Hillbilly Band," which includes lyrics about, well, a crowd of fans screaming. All five songs Griggs performed were from his latest album, This I Gotta See, including the hit single, "If Heaven."
It was hard to tell if the pre-recorded audio leading up to Cagle's entrance was part of his show or just some random sounds to pass the time while a technical problem was being solved. Let's hope for the latter. The snippets of classic rock songs -- including John Mellencamp's "Small Town," Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son" and the Steve Miller Band's "The Joker" -- had nothing to do with Cagle's performance and failed to support his opener, "Laredo."
In any event, Cagle won over the crowd -- just as he always does. After experiencing some throat problems last year that forced him into an extended voice rest, Cagle was ecstatic to be on the big stage again. Following two of his hits, "My Love Goes On and On" and "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out," he began to get teary-eyed when the fans began singing along to "What a Beautiful Day." Well known for emotional displays that often lead to crying, Cagle wiped away tears as he told the crowd, "I know I'm not headlining this show tonight, but you guys make me feel like I am." He closed with "Chicks Dig It."
Sawyer Brown roared onstage with their cover versions of two country classics -- "Six Days on the Road" and "The Race Is On" -- before introducing their new single, "They Don't Understand." Lead vocalist Mark Miller was as energetic as ever on another recent single, "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand," and a cover of the Georgia Satellites' "Keep Your Hands to Yourself." However, they got their biggest crowd response when they closed with their 1992 smash, "Some Girls Do."
From clubs and ballrooms to arenas and amphitheaters -- and Sunday night at a stadium -- Big & Rich have the personality to make any venue seem almost intimate. Sidekicks Cowboy Troy, Two Foot Fred and painter Rachel Kice were there, as usual, although the 35-minute set prevented them from presenting a typical MuzikMafia show with other Mafioso and special guests. In many respects, their performance benefited from the tighter focus.
Big & Rich already had the crowd moving when rapper Cowboy Troy walked onstage for a well-received performance of his debut single, "I Play Chicken With the Train." There were no huge surprises during Big & Rich's set, however, even when John Rich tipped his hat to the Who and Pete Townshend by smashing his guitar on the floor after closing their performance. The crowd was attentive when the duo offered quieter material, such as "Live This Life," but the fans' favorite remains "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)."
It's still hard to say whether Big & Rich and the entire MuzikMafia concept will have commercial staying power, but the diehard country fans attending Sunday's concert seem to be adopting the duo's "country music without prejudice" motto. And every time Big & Rich get in front of a crowd, they win over new fans.
Winning over new fans through live performances is a tried-and-true technique for cultivating a fan base and ultimately building a career. As much as has been made of Big & Rich's unorthodox approach to country music, building that long-term career

Gretchen Wilson was on AfterMidnite with Blair Garner late last night. When asked which Music Mafia member could drink everyone else under the table she replied, "John Rich". She made a joke about it being so quiet in Uncle Kracker's dressing room and talked about her obsession with the number 27 which she believes is her lucky number.

Wilson's "Skoal Ring" Bothers Tennessee Official
Tennessee Attorney General Paul G. Summers is asking Gretchen Wilson to refrain from pulling a can of tobacco out of her pocket during her live performances of the song, "Skoal Ring." Claiming Wilson is a role model, Summers says Wilson's actions onstage potentially influence younger members of the audience. He cites a 1998 agreement prohibiting tobacco companies from targeting young people in their advertising campaigns. However, Wilson does not have an endorsement deal with U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Corp., which manufactures Skoal, or any other tobacco company. According to her publicist, Wilson will not be commenting on Summers' request. "Skoal Ring" will appear on Wilson's new album, All Jacked Up, due to be released Sept. 27.

Gretchen Wilson Releases All Jacked Up
Gretchen Wilson released her second album All Jacked Up on Tuesday (Sept. 27) on Epic Records. She will sing the national anthem on Sunday (Oct. 2) at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo., about 45 miles from her hometown of Pocahontas, Ill. ... Other new releases include Junior Brown's live The Austin Experience (Telarc), bluegrass newcomers Cherryholmes' self-titled effort (Skaggs Family), Freddy Fender and Flaco Jiminez' Tex-Mex-inspired Dos Amigos (Back Porch), a reissue of the Highwaymen's The Road Goes on Forever (Capitol Nashville), Kathy Mattea's self-produced Right Out of Nowhere (Narada) and a reissue of singer-songwriter Lori McKenna's Bittertown (Warner Bros. Nashville). Wynonna's concert special, Her Story: Scenes From a Lifetime, was also released Tuesday on CD and DVD.
Wilson Postpones Two Shows Because of Vocal Fatigue
Gretchen Wilson has postponed an Oct. 7 concert in Huntsville, Ala., and an Oct. 8 show in Perry, Ga., due to "vocal fatigue," said her publicist on Wednesday (Sept. 28). The new dates have not yet been announced. No other tour dates have been affected. Wilson released her second album, All Jacked Up, on Tuesday (Sept. 27).

Gretchen Wilson Debuts at Top of Pop Chart
Gretchen Wilson's second album, All Jacked Up, will debut at No. 1 on Billboard's country albums chart and the Billboard 200 pop chart. First-week sales totaled more than 264,000 copies. Here for the Party, Wilson's first album, debuted at the top of the country albums chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
Gretchen Wilson Does Just Fine on the Charts
Her New Album Debuts at No. 1, but Cherryholmes Also Make Waves
The news of Gretchen Wilson's new album debuting at No. 1 isn't quite as surprising as one of the albums showing up farther down on Billboard's country albums chart. Cherryholmes, a six-piece family band, enter the country chart at No. 74 -- a
truly impressive feat for a bluegrass act releasing its first nationally-distributed CD.
The bigger story for Wilson is that first-week sales of her second album, All Jacked Up, exceeded 264,000 copies to mark her debut at the top of the Billboard 200, a chart tracking sales of all genres of music. Two other country-influenced artists -- Sheryl Crow and Neil Young -- also premiered new albums this week on the Billboard 200. Crow's Wildflower blooms at No. 2. Young's Prairie Wind, blowing in at No. 11, was partially recorded in Nashville.
Cherryholmes are nominated for entertainer of the year at the upcoming International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, but the buzz about the band is beginning to extend beyond bluegrass circles. Featuring husband and wife Jere and Sandy Cherryholmes and their four children, the group recorded three albums on their own label before signing with Skaggs Family Records for the new self-titled project. The album debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's bluegrass chart.
Elsewhere on the country albums chart, Wynonna had a strong week, premiering at No. 2 with the concert recording, Her Story: Scenes From a Lifetime. She and Wilson knocked the next six titles down two notches each. Landing in third through eighth place, respectively, are Trisha Yearwood's Jasper County, Rascal Flatts' Feels Like Today, Sugarland's Twice the Speed of Life, Faith Hill's Fireflies, Keith Urban's Be Here and Brad Paisley's Time Well Wasted. Remaining at No. 9 is Wilson's first album, Here for the Party, followed by Brooks & Dunn's Hillbilly Deluxe, which falls three rungs to No. 10.
Purple Ranger 14 - October 8, 2005 06:33 PM (GMT)
Other albums debuting on this week's country chart include Country's Got Heart, a multi-artist compilation arriving at No. 39. Newcomer Luke Stricklin made an impressive showing by debuting at No. 65 with American by God's Amazing Grace. Kathy Mattea's Right Out of Nowhere lands at No. 73, and Marty Stuart's inspirational Soul's Chapel enters the chart at No. 75.
On Billboard's country singles chart, Montgomery Gentry's "Something to Be Proud Of" spends a second week at No. 1. Urban's "Better Life" rises two levels to second place while Craig Morgan's "Redneck Yacht Club" remains at No. 3, and Jamie O'Neal's "Somebody's Hero" climbs a space to No. 4. Sara Evans' recent No. 1, "A Real Fine Place to Start," continues to descend, stopping at No. 5. Josh Gracin's "Stay With Me (Brass Bed)" spends another week at No. 6, and LeAnn Rimes' "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way" moves upward two rungs to No. 7. Falling one notch each are Toby Keith's "As Good As I Once Was" (to No. 8) and Wilson's "All Jacked Up" (to No. 9). After advancing six spaces last week, Rascal Flatts remain at No. 10 with "Skin (Sarabeth)."
Miranda Lambert has the highest-debuting country single of the week with "Kerosene," the title track of her debut album. Newcomer Danielle Peck debuts at No. 53 with "I Don't," and Wynonna arrives at No. 58 with "Attitude," a song she wrote with John Rich of Big & Rich. Texas favorite Jack Ingram hits the chart at No. 60 with "Wherever You Are." Ingram and Peck are the first artists to release singles on Big Machine Records, a new label that's working in tandem with Toby Keith's new imprint, Show Dog Records.
