Directions could probably be found on the internet through Yahoo. As for the map, I would talk to the Bemidji Historical Society.

I have been online for weeks now looking for any info on this place. All I have been able to find is two very small stories on it. The stories are literally only 2 or 3 lines. Does anyone have the addres, another name this institute went by, when it closed or anything else??? I would greatly appreciate any info anyone has!! Thanks!!!

Check out this thread.
It's north of Bemidji near Buena Vista. It's on the north shore of Lake Julia near the intersection of county roads 15 and 26 (I think those numbers are right, I make no promises though). I don't recommend venturing inside, I am told it is full of asbestos and/or mold. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Sam THANK YOU very much!!! Your the first person who has been able to give me any info on that place at all!! I'm in Indiana, so I won't be going to visit it anytime soon LoL a friend had actually told me of the place, and I am fascinated and intrigued by histories of old aslyums. I haven't had a chance to read everything on the link you posted, but I greatly appreciate you responding back!! Do you happen to know if this place has only used this name, or if there was another name?? And possibly do you know when it closed down or why??? And anything else you might know about this place I'd love to hear!!! I've searched for this online and have literally found but 2 places that only mention it on paranormal pages and literally only give 2 lines!! THANKS again for your help!!!!

You should be able to get information on the Lake Julia Sanitarium by contacting the Bemidji Heritage Preservation Commission:
316 4th St.
Bemidji City Hall
Bemidji MN 56601
Contact: Shirley Sherman
If they don't have the information you need, let me know (I have a few more contacts up there).
P.S. Minnesota's most famous asylum is located in Fergus Falls. It is the only remaining asylum in Minnesota that follows the Kirkbride plan.

Sam THANK YOU for your help!!! I've written a letter off today so hopefully I will hear something soon!! And I have been reading up on the asylum in Fergus Falls as well. And I knew it was a Kirkbride design too!!! I haven't read a whole lot on that yet, but I plan to read a lot more soon!!! Thank you again for all your help!!!

I use to go to school in Bemidji, and I have several friends that have ventured in there. And they are all scared to return. They said something about seeing a lil girl , and hearing lots of doors open and close, and someone following them. I have yet to go there myself.

I tried getting any contact information to get permission to investigate but just hit dead ends will try again this summer.. i know there is the problem of asbestos so we may have to wear protective masks or somthing.. but sounds like it would be well worth it.
I have heard that the owner has it fenced off and doesnt let anyone at all go inside.
ojibwegurl - April 9, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)
Im told its not fenced off at all, and they parked down the road and walked up. There is a house nearby. (This is called tresspassing im sure), but I hear a couple of them actually did go more than once ...

I still would like the property owners permission before entering.
legal papers and such lol
If possible could you email me any stories or things that have happened to your friends? would be interested to get as much info as possible especialy urban legends and stuff like that for our area.

Sure, Ill see what I can do. Also, has anyone heard about the old "bomb shelter" in between Cass Lake and Bemidji? My friend who went there with another friend, dosn't remember how to get there. She said even if she could she would go back - because it was way too scary. I personally, want to check it out.

The asylum is private property, I have been up there on several occassions. I have never been inside becasue it is fenced off. The people who currently own it are reported to not want any paranormal people out there. They are planning on fixing it up and making it into a bed and breakfast. However, they are having a hard time. I will sure try to keep you guys posted on what is happening there. It will be hard since I just recently moved from Bemidji to Eastern Oregon, but I still know lots of people there who know people there.
captainraybies - April 12, 2005 04:51 AM (GMT)
Apparently things have changed, the fences have been removed. I am wrong. That might mean they are going to start the remodeling this spring or summer. I will try to get the name of the people who own the place and post that here. For all you curious folks.

Thanks and welcome to the boards! :)

alot of bed and breakfasts use ghosts to bring in people, maybe after the remodeling they would be willing to rethink it :P

My friend Jason and I went up their last night(thanks to this post). We have lived in Bemidji our lives and just recently heard about this. We pretty much got chased off by a bunch of dogs(don't go walking up to the place). These dogs were MEAN!! We are heading back up their today before it gets to dark. I'll let you know what happens.
