Fundamentalist government? mmmmm, I'll pass.

Also, I find that a little on the insulting side (not to me personallly). Not all fundamentalist government states are militaristic in nature. Vatican City is a good example. While yes, in the days long since past, they built the city as a fortress, equiped it with cannons, and state of the arts infantry, todays new Vatican City is now guarded by a small elite army of (200 I think) soldeirs equiped with only lances (also called pikes, or spears), and wearing the most colorful and highly conspicuous armour on the face of the planet (Striped orange and violet I believe).

Not nfundamentalist government, but a fundamentalist regligion which is a big difference. My Nation is based on my favourite WarHammer 40,000 Space Marine Chapter, the Blood Angels, who have very a fundamentalist religion, ethos, and doctine. Also hence the pre-fex "Fortress Monastery." The Religion was a big deciding factor. Let's face it, humans have always used Religion as an 'excuse to be really crappy to each other' (Dave Lister, Red Dwarf), so why not. Look at the Islamic forces they're off their bonce because they believe their god is on their side and their doing it's work. It's something to believe in and that if you die you soul, spirit, astral, or ethereal body (or whatever), will go to your equivilent of Valhalla.

Might I add that I'm not sure how to calculate properly.
Is it all about military options re: defending/attacking?
I only want to defend.

*sigh* - blonde roots... :P

Carbanousa - May 3, 2004 05:07 PM (GMT)
When Issues for Military appear, the best thing to do is go for the defensive option. Adding a compulsory Military service also helps. These also help to build your Economy (as do other things) which means you can generate more troops. Law and Order related issues can help this as well, but mostly it's just trial and error.

I chose one year of mandatory service, but when answering the calculator questions I'm not sure if I should check "main priority" or "one of many".
What do they mean by "one of many"?
Is it all to do with military?
If so, then I am all about defense.

Remember, I am a chick and I have "blonde roots"!
 :P

Carbanousa - May 3, 2004 05:47 PM (GMT)
On your Nations summary there should be what the government prioritises. Something along the lines of:
QUOTE
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Religion & Spirituality, and Law & Order.

As Defence is the first priority, it is the main one. It is also listed as one of many, so you can check that box too.

Ess - May 3, 2004 05:59 PM (GMT)
Esselldee:
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of the Environment, Education, and Healthcare.

This is with both those options checked:

A fundamentalist religion in the country does not make a country militaristic, and this MM Calculator doesn't suggest that either.

But a fundamentalist religion does make a country way more defensive of their religion and culture; meaning theres a higher number of people willing to die to protect their country.

Thus in this calculator thing, clicking the 'fundamentalist religion' box, only increases defensive military strength. See, the defensive military strength raised 2 points because of it, but the offensive remained the same:

Yeah I'm not a fan of the belief in creating religious wars in some of the islamic nations. I understand that their religion states that in the end, there will only be one world religion. But should that not be left up to god to decide. Isn't that the point of faith? I saw a show on tv recently where a christian couple and an islamic man sat down to explain why there is so much violence in the middle east and the muslim man said "In our Koran, the end result is that Islam will be the only world religion. This will come about in one of 3 ways. 1) Everyone converts to Islam 2) Those who do not convert to Islam will be killed or 3) Those who do not convert to Islam will be taxed heavily under a certain religious tax we are allowed to give to nonbelievers."

That is what the Jihad is all about

This is aopposed to the christian belief that "God will release the 7 seals that are floodgates to the wrath of god, which will cover the earth in turmoil for 7 years, and in the end, those that do not believe, will be thrown down into the fiery pit of hell by gods own hand."

Well, I guess both are equally gruesome. But at least one doesn't require murder and bloodshed at the hand of men.
