A short recap of events and news from the islands...


POLITICAL EVENTS
-San Juan Capital has won the runoff to Lyonesse East to become the newest senator to serve in the Council of Nine.
-The delegate position is currently in the midst of transition from Estayland to delegate-elect Jesioneka.
-It's an exciting time for 10KI politics, the ACN Party is seeing a revival of sorts and a proposal for party-to-party debates is being planned with UPP.
-This March, AoN has welcomed 5 new members; Lockerica, Fortinistine, Estayland, Cieria and Mutanatia, and 5 other nations have submitted applications for membership to discussion.


TACO ISLAND
-The first TI running interview of MinnaCaroline has been concluded successfully. Thank you MC!
-Finally, a competition where islanders only need to post to win! The Captions Contest has 6,000 tacos up for grabs and is still soliciting entries.
-A number of new games are also in progress, including YDKT (a play on our famous resident Yadontknowdoya) and Sloganize your Country. To join in the fun, visit Taco Island today!
-Although not related directly to TI, several interesting threads in the RP forum deserve mention. They include "The Great War" and "New Galaxy Discovered!!"


COMINGS AND GOINGS
-A good number of nations have joined 10,000 Islands in the past two weeks. New nations are invited to visit the forum for free tacos and to reserve their own island in our map of 10000 islands.
-Lockerica, last month's most prolific recruiter for 10KI, has won 10,000 tacos from The Enigmatic Nation. Keep up the good work.
-Islanders are sad to learn that Alfonie has again CTEd...


TITO NEWS (Ten Thousand Island Treaty Organization)
-Past two weeks, TITO saw action in "The West", "Michigan", "Willoughby", and "12000ReasonsforCricket".
-Quoting Jesioneka:

Overall, we were nominated in 7 separate categories and came away with 4 big wins. Congratulations go out to every single Islander! DIPLOMATIC EVENTS
-State Department staff have been kept busy with foreign diplomats who dropped in for visits: Qufafi (The NAS), The Merlion (FRA and Equilism), Willowlands (The Great Land of the Moon), and Kangawara (TEP).
-10000 Islands is still lacking emissaries to Lazarus, The YoungWorld, and other regions. Please contact Jesioneka if you can help.


RANDOM HAPPENINGS
-For what has become an annual practical joke on NSplayers, this years' april fools took the form of the implementation of "Regional Moderators". A number of islanders are reportedly fooled into believing it...

Yeah, actually after that quote was said someone mentioned it and they dug up the old thread... It's really quite funny, all kinds of foods and spices were thrown in, along with several radioactive components...

POLITICAL EVENTS
-AON is discussing revisions to the proposals process. This will clarify the format and amount of time a proposal will be up for discussion.
-The great halls of AON has been kept busy with an influx of new nations and retiring old nations. Ad Infinitum resigned for personal reasons, and Mindless Radio Puppets left due to inactivity. Despite this loss, the assembly managed to achieve a net gain of members with ChapinNavy, DSWA, Mallumo, Extraordinary Jugglers, Anglo-Canadia, Grarlra, Italia Romanae, and Schattental applying for membership. Well done AON!
-A number of posts on RL politics have emerged all around 10KI forums. Discussion on Republican and GW Bush's policies showcases islanders' diverse political views. To add your 2 cents, join the forum today!


TACO ISLAND
-We are happy to report that the first 'Captions Contest' has concluded successfully with Ad Infinitum winning the first prize of 3,000 tacos, followed by Estayland (2,000 tacos), and Girlsandboys (1,000). The organizers will like to thank all participants for their support!
-The 'World Factbook Entry Contest' organized by founder Grub, also ended recently with Coyotemen walking away with 10,000 tacos.
-Although Girlsandboys retired as Warden of Taco Island Jail, she is replaced by another tough lady - Cieria the club wielding Amazon Princess. Another good reason why you shouldn't break the law!
-One of the most exciting events occuring right now is the "April Immigration Team Battle", an initiative by the IMM Dept responsible for 10KI's recent population surge. The two teams facing off are:

Team Enigmatic (Enigmatic, Twobagger, Eridani, Coyotemen, North Belkan Land, MinnaCaroline); and

Team Lockerica (Lockerica, Jugglers, Sinn, Cieria, Schattental, Jesioneka).

-The results are close, with Team Enigmatic leading by five nations as of this post. The Regional Reserve is even accepting bets on who will win the team battle! Go! Go! Go!
-Due to recent immigration successes, 10KI stocks have jumped from 20 to 32 tacos! Creating instant windfalls for many.


COMINGS AND GOINGS
-The official opposition leader A Lee Project is on official leave for one week.


TITO NEWS (Ten Thousand Island Treaty Organization)
-Past two weeks, TITO saw action in "Greater Antarctica"(liberation), "Metal Gods"(liberation), "Zealand", "Doomsville", "SPACE"(liberation)and "The Democratic Party", helping the weak and oppressed, doing good all across NS.


DIPLOMATIC EVENTS
-Friends and diplomats from ADN, The East Pacific, Equilism, The Meritocracy, Lichentia, Canada, The Non-Aligned States, The Great Land of the Moon, and Zurich have all dropped by for cookies and tea, and some R&R at the Island Club House.
-10000 Islands is pleased to present DSWA- our new emissary to Equilism; Eridani - our new emissary to Canada; and Lockerica - our new emissary to Liberalia. They join a family of islanders doing the wonderful work of furthering our friendship with regions all across NS.


RANDOM HAPPENINGS
-A good number of islanders are very annoyed by McCain's "Surrender is Not an Option" advertisement... Yes we get the message sir, enough of that already...

Usually we issue a monthly senate report and a monthly AoN report, unfortunately there was a mixup with the senate report due to position changes, however I hope to have those up for you pretty soon.

In other news, I was elected as the first ever Inter-Party Debates Chairman. The debates are held between our 2 political parties, the UPP and the ACN, and we are currently preparing for our inaugeral debate. Also, the April Immigration Battle has ended and the results are in:

The April Immigration Initiative (AII) Synopsis

The AII Background

The AII was started off the back of the moderately successful MII, in which population levels increased from around 296 to 316. The target of 340 had failed to be met, although the MII saw the emergence of Lockerica, scoring 30 out of the 37 official recruits in that month.

The first week of April
April picked up soon though; the first week showing a staggering 28 official recruits from Enigmatic, Lockerica, and Sinn.

The AII Team Battle
New to the AII was the introduction of the 'Team Battle'. The Team Battle was outlined in the AII introduction, and the concept soon was acknowledged by Enigmatic, 10KI's most recent success story. The two team captains were chosen (Enigmatic and Lockerica) with 4 other team members to be picked. This was later extended to 6 total members per team. The AII Immigration Team Battle began on the 7th of April, with each team taking alternate recruiting days.

The Team Battle is the most successful recruitment story of my entire tenure in office, and i would suggest, perhaps ever in the history of 10KI. It is the single best example of what defines our region: Co-operation, innovation, team work, hard work, and the merging of immigration and economic interests.

Since the inception of the Team Battle we have seen nearly every participant nation recruiting several times, and nearly every nation managing to make a successful recruit. The team spirit that is inherent to our region has really shone through. But i will allow the statistics to speak for themselves:

The AII in numbers:

Team Lockerica recruited a staggering 51 nations in the three weeks from 7th-30th of April. Of those 3 weeks, the team had just 12 recruiting days. This averages out at 4.25 nations per day.

Team Enigmatic recruited an equally staggering 48 nations in their 12 days recruiting time, averaging at 4 nations per day.

The total number of nations successfully recruited in the AII Team Battle was 99.
The total number of nations successfully recruited in the AII as a whole was 127. This averages out at 4.23 nations a day.

However, though the number of successful recruits is staggering, so too is the sheer volume of recruitment messages sent. The total number of messages sent out -and this is a highly conservative estimate- during the month of April was:
2,259 messages sent.

This gives us an overall success percentage of 0.056%!! In other words, for every 200 messages sent in the AII, only 1 nation would arrive. Of course, the official statistics of successful recruits will be off slightly, and on an individual level, the success rate appears to be around 1-5% success rate.

In the AII there were also at least 7 confirmed Tag Team matches.

The Top three nations for total messages sent are:

1.) Lockerica (531 messages +)
2.) Sinn (489 messages +)
3.) Enigmatic (483 messages +)

The top three nations for successful recruits are:

1.) Lockerica (40 Nations)
2.) Enigmatic (34 Nations)
3.) Sinn (23 Nations)

The total bet on the teams in the regional reserve was 55,500!!!
(Obviously those who bet on Team Lockerica will be especially jubilant at their winnings!)

Candy Lane is the winner of the 'closest guess wins' competition. He guessed Team Lockerica would pull in 30 nations (21 short!) and Team Enigmatic would pull in 45 (only 3 short.)

And the biggest statistic of all; The net gain in population:
316-->427.

So there it is.

I must offer my special thanks to Lockerica, Jugglers, Cieria, Schattental, Enigmatic, Twobagger, Eridani, Coyotemen, North Belkan Land, MinnaCaroline, and everyone else who participated through the Regional Reserve.

Without all your help and dedication, we could not have achieved so much, and the AII would not have been the resounding success it has been.

The May Immigration Initiative (MII)

After the resounding success of the AII (see above for the figures) it is my honour to unveil the MII.

It will be largely the same.

1.) A target of 475 nations will be set.

2.) The MII Immigration Team Battle will take place from the 7th to the 30th of May. (The 31st being used as a day to tot up the scores etc) This once again gives each team 12 recruiting days. The teams will be captained by Enigmatic and Lockerica (providing neither has an objection), but they will be able to pick new teams. The teams will be 6 nations each, with the possibility of extension if there's a high demand for participation.

3.) The 2 highest recruiting nations will receive 5,000 and 3,000 bonuses respectively.

4.) Tag Team matches will be pushed as a method of recruiting, we hope to get at least 10 tag team matches in the month of May.

POLITICAL EVENTS
-A new round of Senate elections is under way with MinnaCaroline (UPP) and GLIII (Independent) squaring off for New Republica South and The Enigmatic Nation (UPP) contesting Blue Canaria North unopposed. Former senators for these two districts have stepped down and Islanders thank them for their work.
-This is the second election that the Assembly of Conservative Nations (ACN) party did not field any candidates. Is party politics dying in 10000 islands?
-Assassins and Bandits has stepped down as AoN's first ever censor. The Assembly has expressed gratitude for his work. He is replaced by Lockerica, a member of AoN and immigration.


TACO ISLAND
-In addition to all the other games, Islanders have added one more-- A Hangman game in Taco Island. Choose your letters carefully or fall victim to the Hangman's Noose!
-Expect some fascinating insights about Sinn Fein's Ireland as he gets grilled in this week's interview. If you want to hear more, for example, about his fascination with duplo blocks or milk bottle caps, now's the time to ask!
-The April Immigration Battle has drawn into a successful closing with Team Lockerica winning by a small margin. Good job to all who participated!


COMINGS AND GOINGS
-Islanders have recently learned that Shoshonis is fighting cancer and is too sick most days to join 10KI activities. Many are praying for his early recovery.
-Thoughts also go to Skwerrel, a former senator whose nation has CTEd. He will be missed.
-On a happier note, A Lee Project has returned to his AoN duties. Shizenky and Greek People Nation, Mindless Radio Puppets have also made appearances recently. Welcome back!

-TITO celebrated TITO day on May 8 with a long deserved rest. Thankfully, the invaders were cooperating and NS stayed quiet.
-Past couple of weeks, TITO saw action in "Seattle", "12000ReasonsforCricket", "Gaelionica", "La Armada", "Yuuryoo", "Catholic", "Hideout Heretics", "Avalon Alliance", "A group of peaceful nations", "Allaryia", and "European Continent". Although TITO isn't the largest defense org in terms of size, the group is doing more defense missions than any other single regions across Nationstates.


DIPLOMATIC EVENTS
-Friends and diplomats from Canada, The Meritocracy, The East Pacific, Canada, Liberalia, The Great Land of the Moon, and Zurich have all dropped by for visits.
-10000 Islands is pleased to present Eturium- our new emissary to Europe; Soviet-Prussia has also volunteered for emissary duties to Hyrule.
